How fast can I go in 4WD Low?

I know that 4WD Low is for slower speeds but up to what speed can I safely drive in 4WD Low mode?

I never exceed about 15, maybe 20. I seem to recall reading the limit is really your rpms.

Agreed, I thought the stated top speed in 4WL was 30mph, but that would be wide open and in a 5sp. No reason to do that though...

I'm usually around 15-20mph in 4Lo. Anything more than that and your engine is screaming.

I've got to 55 at redline in my diesel (just to see how fast it'd go). But thats 55kph, not mph

Correct, you can go faster (and I have), but the transfer gearing really starts to whine. It's not a engine RPM problem, but a low range gear RPM limitation.

Possibly why you just had to replace you tranny

The reason I asked was because my pathfinder has a plow on it and it seems like it gets more traction in the snow at 4wd low, so I didnt want to screw anything up while driving it on the road.

 

Anyone know where I can get the owners manual in pdf for this thing? I never had one
