hissing sound comming from...

the back of the car where the gas tank is. I do smell gas around the back of the car but i dont see anything leaking and when i remove the gas cap it releases pressure. im not sure whats going on. any ideas?

is the hissing only when you remove the gas cap b/c if so that's normal...now if you smell gas back there crawl undre and look for wet spots on the tank if you see some and they track up to the top of the tank pull the rear carpet and theres an access panel htat has 4 10mm screws pull those out and remove the panel and see if it's leaking around the fuel pump if not then you probably have some pinholes in your tank

Is it hissing while running or when off? Sometimes the evaporative recovery system can make a hiss after the engine's off, and when it's running the fuel pump will kinda whine or hiss as it operates.

Yeah kinda funny this comes up because just yesterday one of my sons said I was leaking air from the right rear tire, but it was just the sound of the fuel pump he heard.

just hisses might be the pump i see no leaks. i smell gas. only does it when it runs.

I always hear a hiss (when running) on my back left side when I'm outside my vehicle. I'm sure its the fuel pump.

I've never heard a hissing before. I would go out and check when it's running, but my lack of muffer really makes it difficult to notice little finite noises...

Ha, when I was young like that and my dad had the 93 pathy I used to thing the same thing!

Smell gas? Might be a rotted fuel line.

Had to replace quite a bit of mine when the frame was being fixed.

 

Kind of a pain in the ass.Probably easer if Ya got a body lift.

Helped my MPG though
