InfamousDuckMan
So, here it is. Yesterday I went on a 'Skilled Driver's' course with my Insurace company (AAMI for anyone who cares). There was a number of practical exercises that we in the group undertook. The first of these being the Slalom. For anyone who doesnt know what this is, it is when you set up a line of traffic cones on a straight road, spaced apart so that you can weave you car in & out of them. For us, It was an exercise to show control at various speeds. ok, so here's the question. As was expected, it was exponentially more difficult to turn as the speeds increased, & even though the Pathy handled beautifully in comparison to some of the jelly beans that were driving this exercise, when I was turning, the steering was really REALLY heavy, like trying to park a car that doesn't have power steering. Is this normal? Would a steering stabiliser/damper help with this? Try it out, see what you all come up with. Thanks in advance, --DuckMan. MY1PATH
check your power steering fluid x2 A stabilizer will make the wheel harder to turn quickly because it stiffens up against sudden movements. my steering feels heavier under sudden movements I don't know if thats sopposed to dampen a dangerous jerkreaction or if its just mine. GrimGreg
It takes the pump a moment to start "assisting", so in a panic manuver type instance your power assist isn't really there. In the slolom situation, the first turn should be hard but after that it should turn smooth and easily. Also, the larger or more heavily treaded your tires, the more resistance there is to turning. RedPath88
Also, the larger or more heavily treaded your tires, the more resistance there is to turning. Add to that tire pressure, if they are low the steering will be a bit harder... especially at low speed or when your not moving at all.

adamzan
WTH are you talking about adam? I was thinking out loud and stickwacking myself. MY1PATH
I read on AC's forms about modifying the steeing pump to get more preassure & flow on deamand. I think they mostly do it for hydro assist but it could help the stock steering system if you don't go overkill w/ it.
