Oil Filter:

As for Oil, the recommended Amsoil viscosity for your car is 5W-30. You can use either:

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/asl.aspx (I use this one)

or

http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/xlf.aspx

Even though the ASL says it can go up to 25k miles, I still change at 5k along with the filter. When in doubt, go here.

ah! here we go ;)

The ASL / EA stack looks like a winning combination to me! They do say in the specs that the oil & filter can last up to 25k.

thanks!

Ya best be checking that oil regularly if you try and go 25K. I sure hope the filter is bigger than the cheesy little stock ones that go on the R50. I would not even think about going much over 5K, but what the heck, we all do our own thing and hope nothing blows up.

well my goal is not 25k but 10k -15k is nice :D Since its rated for 25k/ 1year I shouldn't have to worry if I do it every 10-15k!

Oil and filter are cheap compared to a wreaked motor, why try to prolong the interval? Sound a little like false economy to me.

BTW, I use full syn (whatever is on sale at Canadian Tire) and a NAPA Gold filter. Changed every 5,000 km.

If you are worried, try it once then get an oil analysis done and see if the oil is still good or needs to be changed. It's only good for those amount of miles if the engine is in proper working order.

where can I get an oil analysis? how much does that cost about?

Also when I change to amsoil for the first time should I do some kind of rinsing? like removing my old oil.. put in a quart of amsoil run the engine a minute, dump that oil then put in my new oil? if so, at what point should I put in my new oil filter?

You don't need to do this but I did it on my S4. I bought a new cheap filter, put this stuff in ran it like the directions said. Then drained and replaced the filter with the amsoil filter.

I use Amsoil 5/30 and whatever filter I can get my hands on (although the Amsoil EA filter is a good unit, I'm just a cheap bastard). I change the filter and top off at 5k miles and then change it all at 10k. Been doing it this way forever. I never do more than 10k a year anyway so, it's just basically a once a year oil change. Cold starts are exceptional, and fuel economy does increase a bit. Compliment the engine oil change with a synthetic auto trans fluid change (if applicable) and change differential fluid to synthetic as well. SOP with all my vehicles, and never a problem!

I use Mobil 1 Extended 5W-30 with a Wix Premium Line 10,000 mile filter.

I change the oil and filter every 7,500-8,000 miles.

I wanted a longer oil change interval, because with the full skidplates, it's a real pain in the ass to drop them every month to change the oil.
