2path2
Hi to all the path enthusiasts. I have a '93 4WD pathfinder, and I have another question now. It is very hard to switch the 4WD system on my pathy, i have heard that with other pathys. Anyone have any thoughts on what it is and what I have to do? All suggestions are welcome. 5523Pathfinder
Into which gear are you having trouble with? I know some people have a hard time from 4lo to 4hi because the move the stick too slow. Maybe a lubricant issue?
88pathoffroad
Mine's never been stiff or hard to shift. Pull back one notch for 4HI, push down and pull back for Neutral, back one more notch for 4LO.
gxl90rx7
I recently changed my transfer case fluid, and it became a LOT easier to shift between modes. You may want to check/change your fluid
adamzan
Mines been sitting for like over a year so that might have something to do with it. I still move it around every once and a while but yeah maybe i should do something about the fluid although it was changed right before the truck was taken off the road. Mr. Pickles
Mine could be stubborn, even without the body lift. It would sometimes require some wiggling and tugging to get things to move along.
2path2
So is it a common problem that many pathfinders have??
mws
I think it is a pretty common tendency for most any "true" gear style transfer case. They use extremely simple (and tough) gears with no synchros or anything like that to ease engagement. If the gears are precise and tight, they can be a little persnickety to slide in and out of mesh. Some are smoother, some are notchier. Not a perceived problem for those of us who have had driven trucks or older manuals from the days before synchros. A good synthetic lube will help, as will more frequent use. They will wear in and get easier to use.
Jdpathy
mine gives me trouble when I have parked it over night in 4wd and when I am putting it in 4 after getting stuck. (that gets exciting)
94extreme
Mine's never been stiff or hard to shift. Pull back one notch for 4HI, push down and pull back for Neutral, back one more notch for 4LO. same here.. maybe they need a regular workout or something?

GrimGreg
Mine gets cranky sometimes, usually only when I shift it while sitting still though.
