we have a tire changer table thingie with tools in our garage.. my god has it paid for itself 100 times over!!!!! :bow: :bow: i have seen the wd40 / lighter deal used on alan's 38's adn 42's..... and i also think that's how he lost his eyebrows, and dave was caught on fire once.... not such a safe option.... tire shop all the way.

i agree. mini me is brutal. if she gets abused in any way.. she lets me know.. subtly at first, then by breaking something. king caca thrives on "abuse" (i never really ABUSE my rigs).... makes him feel good.. he ALWAYS runs BETTER when he goes wheeling than when i just drive him aorund town

i wheel a/t and 5 spd pathys i love my 5 speed for the fire roads and mud, but for slow sloooooow stuff ike rocks/tight/technical stuff i actually prefer the auto sometimes..

:bow: thank you pavelow. i really appreciate you taking the time and effort to make that write up for me (and everyone else!), it will save me some serious $$ in the long run, and as you know king caca is mainly for off road with the occasional trip to work and as a back up when mini me is sick. thanks!!!!

i have absolutely no problem towing our 2800lb boat, (and towed it ALL summer long) and i get MAYBE 1-2mpg worse gas mileage...... now. if you want to tow 3,000lbs and go 90mph, yeah, gas mileage is gunna suck.... and pathys weren't built for towing..... tho they do get the job done. want a towing vehicle, buy a titan. want to tow under 3k lbs, get there in 1 piece and not utterly concerned with gas mileage... then a pathy will be fine. IMOO

yeah, it is. and no, you never wanna go max weight allowed, either on yer truck or hitch. i tow our 86 (18'6") bayliner (about 2800lbs) with mini me and she LOVES pulling the boat i swear she runs better.. and i barely notice a difference in gas mileage. i drive 55 and she does great. stopping can be scary sometimes... thank god fer 5 speeds!

umm.. i highly suggest NOT driving it. and cold or warm, get that wheel off and look, you could be causing irreparable damage down there, and risking your safety, and the safety of others driving a broken truck aorund. cowboy up n get out there.

like red said, you could BUY almost any option on either the SE or XE. I have 1 XE & 2 SE's, i think my XE (mini me) is pretty basic, (cloth, all elec, 5 spd) but she does have fender flares and a roof rack, lsd but rear drum, no fog lights, exo tire carrier. King has leather (not heated) CC, auto, sunroof, and intermittent wipers, all wheel disk brakes, no roof rack and no 3rd brake light and no spoiler and no fog lights, exo tire carrier....... Piglet is also an SE, but has drum rear like mini, cloth (but nicer than mini's) seats, open diff, roof rack, elec windows, no fog lights, interior tire carrier. i love all my trucks.

i agree. :bow: if she's not mechanically inclined, no amount of tools will help her. as with the sad kim family story, if they had a survival kit, flares and flashlights, they may have been rescued sooner and all alive. if she isn't mechanically inclined: blanket (one of those silvery survival blankets..small..easy to store) those heating gloves (as above) emergency triangles spare clothing/shoes candles & a good strong flashlight (a BBQ lighter and extra batteries too) AAA membership and a pre paid cell phone.. even if there's no service, some cell phones, like mine, have a "beacon" thing inside it so it's location can be traced by 911, and i can also call 911 anywhere, even out of my service area. Flares (someone will wonder WTF the lightshow is!) water and canned food (with can opener!) mechanically inclined: a service manual for her car tool kit to include metric & std sockets and wrenches, pliers, duct tape, pb blaster, spare belts for the car, mechanics gloves or rubber gloves, zip ties, bungees.. a jack and nifty lug wrench a tarp for laying on one of those bright lights that run off battery or a large battery operated hangable lamp. a cheater bar & BFH i can't remember anything else right now.......

true dat martin. another clue is to not give too many instructions at once. YOU drive first, let him watch your feet, and listen to th motor. that is how i learned.. i used to watch my mom drive her 79 yota corolla estate (the "pathy" type corolla).... when i was 14.. i stole the car while she was in hawaii..... and drove it perfectly. just from WATCHING *ahem* back on topic. drive first, let him observe your movements. his brain will associate your movements with the sound of the engine. (and hopefully reproduce these when he's behind the wheel). remind him NOT to watch his feet. i see that so much with newbs.. skeery! shifting is around 2800-3000rpm in a 5 speed. i usually shift 1st-2nd at around 2500. she seems smoother that way, especially when cold. if he over revs it, he will soon learn, he will get whiplash and the pathy will let him know. As above, a parking lot is a good place to learn. and a slight incline is even better. have him facing uphill, handbrake ON, and let him slowly release the clutch to find biting point. then clutch down again. that way you do not risk him rolling backwards, nor do you risk the complete frying of your clutch. (that's how my mom learned to drive the yota..hahaha) getting to know where the biting point is half the battle. if you are short tempered, or do not explain things clearly, then find another instructor. do not overload him with information, basics first. he will be as nervous as you are! if things get a bit "exciting" or tense.. STOP. take a break. tell jokes. whatever releases the anxiety. good luck and he'll do fine!!!! -bounce-

ah. excellent. so are you "mobile" at all.. ie: can you stand at all or are you paralyzed? sorry for getting personal, but there are a lot fo cool gadgets n stuff out there, n with my mother-in-law also in a chair, i feel for the situation. i spent 3 months in a chair when i broke my back... (i had a 3 story house too ) so i can feel you on the truck thing. the steps i referred to are under $300 and weigh less than 25 lbs..... very little wiring, and easy maint. depending on your amount of mobility, is to what you really need i guess, maybe start a thread about what's available? some of the guys love looking for stuff/investigating things (my better half included).... just a thought also, if yer pathy has leather interior or rear heat, prolly an SE...... you can also find out on your pink slip and/or your VIN numbers
