  1. Very good point... The VG30e is quite peppy when you come from a Z24... B
  2. Yes it is odd, and yes, beer helps salve the frustration but it does not solve the problem. Any good advice or information to share?? Thanks and yeah, that;s what I told the GF. Ok if the tranny crapped out, but at least get us home and not make us wait to pay a tow charge. I'm still thinking that this is electrical (wishful thinking?) though. If not the M/T tranny swap is sitting in the driveway. Ideas and info still welcome of course. I'll be diving into this first thing tomorrow... B
  3. It quit raining so I messed with it a bit. Fuses all looked fine, and I swapped out the 2 fusible links and the main and check relay from the parts truck (damn, that's handy!!). No difference... It wasn't like I was towing up Everest!! I have an after market cooler, is that what you mean?? 10 minutes moderate load on the tranny, that can't be an issue or no one would keep them. One thing I noticed is a section of wiring harness that was laying against the passenger collector flange and I can see the copper of one wire, but the rest of the damage is cosmetic. Damn, I hope something didn't short the tranny brain!! The exhaust shop must not have have tied them up when they replaced the O2 sensor, I know I did!! Anyway, maybe it means nothing, maybe it is the key. I still don't have any dash or ignition power though. Still searching, etc. The annoying part is that I was going to take it to get the ARB fitted tomorrow. Doesn't seem likely now... :sigh: B
  4. I was climbing a long, slow windy hill today. It's cold misty weather and the pathy was pulling fine, I watched the coolant temp gauge, but it never went up to 40%. I stop at a stop sign near the top, tried to accelerate, and virtually nothing happened. RPM and noise but nothing more than a surge of movement, even when locked in 1st. (Only tried it twice and for a couple of seconds). I look at the dash to check the coolant temp gauge and for the A/T temp idiot light and nothing. Nothing as in the entire dash is dead other than the battery light dimly illuminated. No tach, speedo, heater, etc. Lights, signal, stereo works fine. I had OD turned off climbing the hill, and it's a paved road. I back a few feet to get out of the way, popped the hood and let it idle in park 5+ minutes to cool off the tranny in case the A/T temp light had come on. The dash could not have been dead more than a few minutes anyway. The motor runs perfect. I get turned around and I think the tranny is in safe more (second gear) I can get it to start rolling reasonably when locked in first and can manually shift to second (with a jolt) I did not feel any other shifting occurring (not that I tried much). I limped home on back roads about 40 mph, stopped and got beer and got home. Reverse seems to work fine for the little bit I tested it. Instant response, power, just like normal. Once I shut it off, I tried to restart it. Nothing, the dash is still dead and the ignition does nothing, not a click anywhere. I haven't checked anything yet (drizzly rain and I decided to have a beer first) but I'm positive the battery is fine and the connections are good... I'm thinking some sort of relay or something and about to start searching and reading the FSM. #1 is get the dash working to do the diagnostics on the A/T, right?? The funny thing is I have a tranny temp gauge that is already mounted in the dash, just not wired or sensor plumbed because I was waiting for the inline filter element so I could do it all in one shot. It would have given me good info, unless it was tied into the dimmer circut and I lost that too. B Fluid looks good yet smells slightly petroleum (don't understand how that can be); I doubt that is the issue.
  5. I've only pulled a manual not an AT, but I say 2 things... 1) Jack up all 4 corners. Give yourself room to work and remember, these trannys are large. 2) Search!!! You are not the first to have questions about this. See what you can find, and then ask... B
  6. True. With the truck jacked up, inspect the tie rod ends and idler arm in several positions, pull twist and pry. Have someone turn the wheel for you while you try to find something that will move. That is the key, look for anything that has play in it... B
  7. That is all easy with the the steering box being the most involved. I recommend you remove the skid plate, jack it up, pull the tires and investigate... B
  8. Tungsten, you are correct if he had a WD21 but his is 2004 and I think it has the 3.5 liter?? Pretty sure it is dual exhaust also so it's a totally different animal... Nick, if you think you are lacking power, try driving a WD21... It's not the answer you want, but ditch the LPG and run gasoline. That should give you 10% more power right there... Other than that, a different intake should help and cat back exhaust systems. B
  9. *snort* "I'd like some 350Z injectors please. Oh, and you better throw in a 350z motor, fuel system and electrical/control system while we are at it..." B
  10. You can order all the parts fron Alkorahil (aka Roy Lacy) who runs a Nissan dealership online store. Good prices and quality parts... Contact information is in Classifieds/Services. You should probably replace the thermostat and coolant bypass hose while you are in there also. B There are several indepth threads on exactly this, some quite recent. If you can't use search to find them, let me know... B
  11. It's pretty easy and straight forward. The only thing that is a pain is torquing the cam pulley bolt as everything wants to rotate. a second set of hands is invaluable for that. Also, when removing the old seal, tap it in first to break it loose, then gently pry it out. DO NOT damage the aluminum or you will be sorry... B
  12. That's odd, it's not uncommon... He's just having a bad body hair day... B
  13. I've spoken with your local club representative and he is on his way to meet you. I'm afraid you will be required to surrender your man card, your membership has been revoked... Glad it was simple mistake, not something damaging. I will point something out though, if the engine oil capacity (any fluid really) is listed at 4 quarts and you put in 3-4 quarts and there still is no registration on the dipstick, stop!! Investigate!! It might be as simple as forgetting the drain plug, but something is obviously wrong. Don't just continue filling... B
  14. That does it, I'm starting a Nunyism collection!! B
  15. I always figured that if you live in an area that you need remote start, the proper solution is to move... B
  16. Check the wiring/connection for the O2 and check the sensor for resistance 1-1000 ohms, I believe. The EUC isn't the smartest and may say O2 sensor when you have something like a vacuum leak messing with the air/fuel mix. B
  17. WTF is that, who are they, and why did they use it?? B
  18. Try the Z24 (available in a few pathys) that I had in my D720 (kingcab 4x4) 106hp at the crank, fresh. Imagine it at 160,000 miles... Damn thing never died though... *snort* Or a tow vehicle... B
  19. Ok, so the Flowmaster 60 series Delta Flow (what a mouthful for a muffler) is installed and sounds/responds better. It still has a rumble at idle and low rpm and the revs get higher pitched, but not nearly as loud or high as before and are a little choppy without the resonant drone effect. The initial hesitation is gone but I haven't been able to really get a feel for it yet. Still, the baffled muffler design seems to work better and sound better than the Magnaflow through design with my particular set up. I'll update after some miles... B
  20. See if Steevo has any and if so, cancel with the othjer place... http://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/warn-premium-manual-hubs-28-spline-nissan-pathfinder-cyl-1990-01-p-227.html B
  21. Yeah, my right side one was dribbling slightly, and I believe Tex stated something like 3/4 engines he has seen leak on that side, but not on the other... *snort* I'll have to tip my pathy over to see if I fixed the leak well. B
  22. I'm pretty sure my cell phone doesn't have a recorder on it. It's 5 years old and pre-camera, but I'll check when I get home (I don't cary the damn thing). B
  23. You know you have a 4000lb truck, right? Did I miss something or are they dangerously weak? B
