  1. Sorry I did not mention that I had installed a transmission cooler. I filled the fluid up to level and it shifts fine into 2nd, but when it hits about 4500 it wont go into 3rd. I too feel the tranny is probably toast. I may try adding one of those Lucas supplements, but I think the third is shot. She can drive it around since we are in a small town. We are not ready to plunge into another vehicle yet, but I am going to start looking. I am not willing to replace the transmission, too much for this truck. So, what do you folks think, should I even try to sell it? It actually has a pretty good body and lots of good parts. Ideas? Thanks again for help.
  2. Yesterday my wife told me that her car was revving very high at about 40 miles an hour. I checked the tranny fluid and it did not show up on the dipstick, so I added about a quart. It seems to be registering at the very bottom of the dipstick. Well she took it out and when she got back a couple hours later she said it was now doing it at about 25 mph. Any thoughts, I was thinking of getting some of that lucas additive that claims to help slipping, should I drain the fluid and put new fluid in? Any thoughts would be of help. Thanks. By the way she says when she was driving in 2 it was fine, is it bad for her to be driving around in 2?
  3. What is the best way to find tdc? I got off most of the stuff in the way, today, I am going to pull the harmonic balancer and take of bottom cover. The top of the timing belt seems to be in good shape and the cams seem to be in the same position. Well, after I get the new belt on should I just turn the crank to make sure everything is smooth. Then put everything back and try to start the truck. Someone told me I should take of both valve covers and manually check the valves. Any ideas on whether this is needed. Luckily nice enough weather today. Thanks again for help.
  4. so okay, what i have been told is that if all of the timing marks line up it should be okay, i just have to make sure that the crankshaft has the distributor facing #1. Has anyone else done this?
  5. I ordered my timing belt kit in early part of December and received it. Good news thanks to you guys I got a good price. Bad news, its been to cold to instal. I was actually gonna try and do it this week. Well guess what, wife called this morning saying the pathy wouldnt start, by the sound of it, the timing belt went out. Now she was not driving and said she only tried it a couple of times. So, after work I am gonna go home and look. First, this happened to me on a 300zx, before I knew about timing belts, and when I replaced it everything was okay. So, should I go ahead and replace the belt and pray that it is okay. Second, if I am going to replace it, what is the best way to line up the timing marks? Any help would be appreciated.
  6. Okay the 1995 pathfinder needs a new timing belt. I am thinking about ordering the kit from courtesy nissan. I did run into this as well though http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Timing-Belt-Kit-Nissan-Pathfinder-1995-VG30E-3-0L-V6_W0QQitemZ110401757321QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item19b4752089. The one from ebay does not include the tensioner stud. My questions are as follows, are there better places to get a kit? Does the ebay kit look like it is worth it? Any hints or possible problems with replacing the timing belt and other parts. Thanks in advance for any possible info.
  7. Hello, Just wanted to pop in. My wife and I are a nissan family, I have a frontier and she has a 1995 pathfinder. Since I do almost all of the work on my own, thought I could get some helpful advice. It has been a very nice vehicle, with only a few problems over the last 6 plus years. Thank you in advance. jberzins
