  1. I've been VERY happy w/ my Kenwood units, absolutely no skipping, receiver has unbeatable FM selectivity, and a big factor was being able to change illumination color to match the rest of the orange dash lights. Something that wasn't optional a few years back on a lot of brands. On the other hand (you have different fingers ), the Blaupunkt San Jose in my Supra skips if you look at it wrong.... :furious:
  2. Guess I'll have to get a job, THEN some subs...... -thnkboutit- Oh BTW, night-time, pic doesn't do it justice, I'm afraid...
  3. Kenwood KRC-607 casette H/U with their KDC-D300 CD player with 11 band spectrum analyzer, Alpine 6x9 three-ways in the back with their 6 and a half inch 3-ways in the doors. Stock Clarion gave up a loooong time ago....... Geez, I'm an old F*rt, what do I need 12" subs for ? :X
  4. I found you have to keep them away from the steel plate in your head, too...
  5. I'm not sure if what I have on my '87 SE can be construed as "power locks". They're obviously all hooked together, i.e.: one turn on the driver's side unlocks both doors & the tailgate, or if you push the button on the driver's side it locks them all. Certainly not a "keyless entry" type system, and with no separate switch for lock/unlock like alot of cars..... Boy is that a NS'er !!! ROFLMFAO Thank the "engineers" that can afford to pay to have someone work on their rigs. Those of us that can't have to save up to have U-joints installed in their arms to reach all their little marvels... :furious: UPDATE : my driver's door has done it again, passenger door will not unlock at all.... you can't even unlock with the top button! If I lock the "darn" thing you have to climb in the tailgate and unlock the driver's door by hand... THANK YOU, Nissan
  6. I've gotta agree with statikuz, I dealt with Crutchfield when I ran into a brickwall trying to find stereo gear while I was living in rural Nevada ~ a hopeless cause if ever there was one. They were professional, knowledgeable, and at the time (4-5 years ago) my '87 Pathy was included in their "What'll Fit" listings. All you have to do is call their toll-free number & actually speak to one of their sales reps. I selected a Kenwood KRC-607 cassette H/U, with their KDC-D300 CD player mounted under the dash. I had them in 3 days from the East coast, included with them was 3 very complete diagrams to not only take apart the dash & remove the stock (Clarion) stereo ( which I'd done a couple years earlier), but also how to remove the front door panels & the rear quarter panels for the speaker installations. They also threw in free wiring hookups, an under dash mounting console, dash trim panel (black textured metal instead of plastic crap). Having allready replaced the speakers by way of a local shop, Alpine 6X9 3-ways in the rear & 6 1/2 3-ways in the doors, this wasn't needed, but if I'd had their sheets I would've probably tackeled this myself, having been charged an arm & a leg by the shop Something I think I do remember is the shop telling me that the stock Clarion amp(s) were a positive ground rather than the more common negative ground. But then again, I might be confusing this with the stock Clarion I replaced in my RX7 (5 amps!). My '87 only had one amp as far as I know, located on the floor behind the center floor heater outlets in on the tranny tunnnel. So many cars..... so many stereos..... When I ran into trouble trying to figure out where to tie the dimmer in, one call to them was all that was needed. They were able to bring up my wiring diagram from their data base, talked me thru tracing the wire I needed, and I was on my way. Now this isn't to say that some folks might've run into probs, nobody's 100%, but you won't find me running them down from my experiences. There's allways another side....
  7. Had the same prob on my '87 Pathy AND '91 pickup. The prob on my rigs was traced with a lot of tearing apart, to a little yellow plastic bushing/connector that ties the door lock button to the doorkey to the inside doorhandle. It's a B to get to unless you have "Olive Oyl" arms. They only cost a buck or two @ Nissan, but be ready to beat your head on the nearest brick wall. :furious: You'll have to drop the doorkey lock out of the door amongst other things, and be sure not to lose the flat, white plastic spacer that fits inside of the yellow bushing thingy ! It spreads the split bushing so it stays in place in the actuating arms for your doorhandle/doorlock. Hope this is of some :help: The Toad
  8. Thanks, flnl... My Pathy is an '87 SEV6, stock, other than Warn manual hubs & a set of 31X10.50X15's. Mods are in the works, trying to learn as much as I can in these & other forums before I screw averything up ! I'm the second owner (bought in '89), now has 157,000 on the clock. All black, no stripes, no nuthin' ! When I can figure out how to resize some pics correctly, I'll try & post...
  9. Just found & joined the forum, never knew there was this many Pathyphiliacs put there ! :cool2:
  10. unless you're a die-hard Chevy fan, I'd go with maybe a 5.0 litre Ford.... distributor's on the front so there's no firewall clearancing....
  11. Try picking up a Spring/Summer issue of the good ol' J.C. Whitney catalog, not sure anymore, but they used to carry a complete after-market kit ( right down to the A/C dash button) manufactured by SCS Frigette. Believe they ran in the $850.-$900. range, also there were several installation centers around the country for those that don't want to mess with the install themselves. Might pick one up myself to see if they're still available. You might try http://www.scsfrigette.com/html/home as well for more info.... Hope this helps
