    SAS Pathy

:cool2: What a class fab job he's done on his rig, truly 1st rate. Too bad some of the EB people couldn't appreciate what he's done, or just how "worthy" the "lowly" Pathy really is... but everybody's entitled to their opinion. I did like how some of them "stood up" for datz510 ~ they showed as much class as his rig does. Kudos to his well written responses, well thought out & informative to those that don't know how good our rigs are or how dependable they are ~ they just don't like 'em because they're riceburners, etc. I like a well thought-out & engineered EB as well, but I'll stick with my Pathy, I prefer the better creature comforts it affords. I can understand his changing over to SAS with the serious offroading he does, our IFS would never hold up to the abuse. I think 88 would attest to that... Thanx for the link....
  2. WOW ! I'm starting to feel almost smart after some of the postings in here... The last couple make me think of how many times I've thought I had clearance to go under something with a hardhat on...
  3. I went ahead & changed mine out mainly due to the fact that the plastic cams in there were pretty well wore out ~ they weren't positively engaging, etc., plus it beat taking the dang thing apart every 3-6 months, cleaning will only do so much ya know ?
  4. Once you do get it dry, why not get one of those drop in cargo area liners ? You know, the ones with the 3" lip or so around them. They protect your carpeting from stains, muddy boots, etc. Of course that's assuming that it was something in the back that caused the wetness ~ not just leaky window rubber or something like that... Just read your other post... I'd say it's time for new window rubber, or move to Az. ~ we only get about 3" rain a year...
  5. Welcome to the forums ! Try a search for related posts, you might have more luck posting your questions in the "Garage" or "General" forums...
  6. Welcome to the forums. You'd probably have a little better luck posting your questions in the "Garage" area, not a whole lot of folks look up here in the Newbies section.... and quit YELLING...
  7. Welcome to the forums and congrats on your Pathy, I've got a black '87SE myself...
  8. I had the same probs with my '87SE: driver's side lowbeam would stop working when switching down from highbeams, etc. Took it to an auto electrical place & they just scratched their heads(idiots). I bought a new combo switch (directional/high-low/cruise control) from the stealer and 10 minutes later no more problems. By the way, I thought I'd get reamed on this seeing how it was multi function, but if I remember right it was around 50-60 bucks* or so... I was figuring a couple of hundred at least... Thanks, T-day was fine, nice & relaxing... Hope your's was too *this was about 5-6 years ago ~ so figure inflation... :contract:
  9. Kind of a bad pic, but it sure looks the same as the one on my '87SE. As the bodies were the same up to '95, I see no reason you couldn't bolt it right on yours. But then again... Plus, at $30. the price is right in my book... :contract:
  10. Shop I used to manage up in Nevada we had air ratchets that'd go up to 620 ft/lbs in reverse... sometimes those weren't even enough to break some of the bolts that'd rusted onto the hydrocyclones we were rebuilding... and that's without them hiding in a suspension... Sounds like it's definately time for the "blue-tip wrench"...
  11. "Rust? What's that ?", he says from his Arizona home...
  12. As far as I've read on the posts (here & elsewhere) Thorley's are the way to go.... forget Pacesetter, etc. You'll pay more, but they're worth the wait to get them. Seems to me, I've also read no mods are needed, no matter what the ads say... "not for automatic".... Try a search, MaritimeMan is putting a set on right now, and there's other posts as well.... -study-
  13. Oh Boy, there's some tough ones to beat, but I'll try... :o Stupidity... pics to prove it. A couple of months ago I was going to head into town and went out & started the Pathy up. Since it's black and had collected a night's worth of dust on it, I decided to go ahead and give it the ol' "California Duster" treatment as it was warming up. Best laid plans.... -thnkboutit- I always park with the rig in 1st gear, parking brake on. I grabbed my duster off of the passenger side rear floor & transfered it to my left hand. Next move (one I've done countless times before) is to throw it into neutral while taking my foot off of the clutch. Now 9,999 time out of 10,000 it would've already been in neutral before I started it. Sorry to say, not this morning. My hand slipped on the shifter, leaving it in 1st gear... too late ~ my foot was already coming off of the clutch. The rig jumped, trying to throw me out on the driveway, but I was too quick for it... I grabbed the steering wheel with my right hand but was still half upsidedown hanging out the door. If I let go, I fall out. The bad part of all this was not only couldn't I get either of my feet to the pedals, I couldn't let go to turn off the ignition or slide it out of gear. To make matters worse I was blind, too... I hadn't even taken off my windshield shade. BAM ! The Pathy stopped... but didn't quit, if you get my drift. Now it was busy trying to bury itself via the rear wheels, like a dog burying a bone, throwing gravel & digging holes. I got it shut off & climbed out, expecting not too much damage as it'd "only" gone about 20 feet or so, but worried about my Supra and how bad my indestructable 4x4 had dented it. I climbed in & backed the Pathy up. Hmmmm, not too bad on the Supra ~ a cracked right side tail light, and some scratches on the bumper. I looked at the driver's side front bumper ~ nary a scratch ! ALLRIGHT ! But wait! How'd all that plastic get over by the truck ? I get to looking a little closer... the driver's side tail light's been smashed in the truck too !! Then I turn around and take a better look at the Pathy. Bumper tweaked under, passenger fender buckeled, corner light is toast... The '91 H/B truck has a real solid hitch mount bumper on it's a$$end. The 31's on the Pathy allowed the front bumper to go right over it, connecting solidly with the lower rubber valance and bottom of the fender, tweaking it down & buckeling the fender out. The truck received about a quarter-sized dent above the tail light. Three lights smashed, but not one bulb broken... So there you have it... 3 cars all wrecked in less than 30 seconds in my own !@#$% driveway ! To top it off, by the time I finally made it to town, the place was closed because it was Columbus Day ! I never had to go in the 1st F'ing place.... :furious: -alcohol-
  14. Not into sidetracking posts BUT, twm ~ sounds like a simple backup switch replacement, head to NAPA or somewhere & change it out. Have you even bothered to check your bulbs ? Might even be a loose connection on the switch. Crawl under there & look. -thnkboutit- As far as the fuel guage, could be a sending unit, could be the guage itself, could be wiring, could be a relay, could be a fuse, start with one thing 'til you eliminate that then move on to the next until you solve the problem. ALL probs can be fixed with process of elimination, just be patient & use some common sense to try & track it down. Try a search on the forum for guage probs or something, chances are you're not the first one here to have a problem with their fuel guage. The hood's not that hard to solve... next time you have it open, try adjusting the actuating cable where it hooks into the latch. Chances are it's stretched a little over the years, take up some of the slack and your in business. While you're under the hood, on either side of the front next to the fenders you'll see 2 black rubber bumpers. Give them each a twist a little at a time to raise them up closer to the bottom side of the hood. Close your hood, try the release ~ your hood should pop up. If it doesn't, tweak 'em a little more, but not too much.
  15. Sounds like it's time for a new alternator to me. As far as keeping the mud or water out with a cover.... I'd say a resounding no. Those vents are there to allow heat to escape, you would shorten the life of your charging system far worse than the mud/water will.
  16. Sounds like you've lost your backup light switch on the tranny.... get a new one & you'll be right as rain.... -bounce-
  17. My, aren't we fancy ? I think mine's located next to my hypo-allergenic discombobulator interflow unit... Seriously, I've no idea as to where in the line between outside vent to your heater-A/C blower the microfilter is. Sorry I can't help you there. The blower is down under your dash against the firewall, I would guess, just like they've been mounting them forever. Now that I think about it, I've got a couple bugging me, too...... sssh Edit: "in-cabin microfilter" ~ I guess that tells me where it is... Evidently it's the last line of defense for all that nasty mobile real estate that everybody finds in their rig ~ me included ~ but that's Az. for ya... besides, I've got an '87, we don't need no stinkin' microfilters !
  18. Not sure about the brake connection, and what possible effect that would have on your A/C-heater fan, but if your's is like most Pathy's and H/B trucks, it sounds like you have leaves that have gotten down into your fresh-air ducts from the cowling. When this happens on mine, the higher you put the fan output the louder they are... 'til you grind them up & shoot them out all over your interior that is... Maybe braking allows them to slide in the ducting until they contact the edge of your fan blades ? Anybody else hazard a guess ?
  19. I wondered what the heck that thing was for !!! I bought mine used (no owner's manual) and the autolocks had already been changed to Warn manuals. Duh, ya learn somethin' new every day...
  20. Now why would anybody want to do that ? Listen to AM radio, I mean. Daily Paul Harvey or Rush Limbaugh fix ?
  21. Do you have autolock front hubs ? Might be a case of not hitting the "interlock" switch on your dash (if a '94 has one like my '87~me not know) so you can engage 4x4... Or have the auto hubs been replaced with manual locking hubs ? Get out & lock them in, then try your Hi/Lo levers.... some ppl's kids... -thnkboutit-
  22. No guard = no pics... but I'd sure like to see someone come up with some tail light guards for us '87 to '95 owners. Interesting that you can buy the things for a new Murano already ( also F/R bumper guards), yet us early Pathy owners are SOL... The Murano is SO offroad... I know, tail light guards are pretty non-functional, but I like the way they tie the rear to the front esthetically...
  23. If you're looking for used Pathy parts, and none to be found in your local yards (like moi), you might try these guys... they've helped me out on a couple of occasions... Nissan Only Wreckers
