  1. Last time I remember reading up on this, a guy made it to a 3.8L? before the block cracked. More and more people swap the SOHC engines into their Z32s for space, less maintenance items, and reliability. That's definitely what I'd do if somehow I spent the money to buy a Z32. I had an '87 Z31T and prefer it over a newer one.The DEs also have half as many head bolts.
  2. LOL! Yep that's where mine usually goes too.
  3. Lol hey you're doing it wrong! VG30DE goes in Pathfinder and VG33 with big ass turbo goes in Z car... That'd be one hell of a project.
  4. They probably are different, and it could very well be that my engines are within a strange year range or something to do with a finite detail. I was fully expecting them not to interchange but everything set right in place. W series are better than A/B series. Dropping the pan would require the diff coming out, or like you said...
  5. No actually, I like my 2nd or 3rd cup of coffee when I'm heading out. Thanks. You just entirely contradicted yourself. Again. First it's buy another car to have cupholders, then cupholders aren't bad. Are you schizophrenic? No one said they wanted 800 cup holders. Quite obviously they are referring to one or two in the center console. "Ok, let me try to say this again because no one understands what I'm trying to say here..." Maybe if you'd quit contradicting/rewording yourself and being a dick, people would care to understand what you're trying to say. Looks to me like most at this point don't give a flying fornication what you think. OP: Sorry for the Can't wait to see what the console will look like when it's done.
  6. Whoa, that pulley is going to be straightened out when it's all said and done right? Looks like it's a bit off.
  7. Cupholders are nice to have for drinks obviously and storage. I bring my coffee with me in the mornings too but I don't have cup holders so it goes in the center console. I try and pack stuff in with it to hold it in place but usually makes a bigger mess when I take a drink. Then when I turn, hit the brakes, or step on the gas, coffee spills depending on the mug. Same with almost any other drink without a tight lid. It's extremely annoying. Depending on the perspective cupholders are awesome. Doesn't matter what type of vehicle they're in.
  8. Worthy trade any day my man. No hard feelings from this guy!
  9. I'd like to mention one thing regarding the heads now that I have both a W series and A'B series next to each other. The engine that just came out of my Pathfinder is an '84 A/B series engine, what came out before was the stock '88 W-series engine. The head gaskets interchange and so do the heads. The water and oil pumps look different but they share identical mounting bosses so it makes no difference. Currently I have an '88 block, '84 crank, '84 rods, '84 pistons, '84 heads. '88 water and oil pump. Sorry to hear about the new engine, that royally sucks. If the o-ring or gasket is leaking in between the oil pickup tube and oil pump then your engine is being ruined more and more as it's ran as the leak allows air to be sucked through the bearings. Big no-no. I read a while ago that Sewebster had the same low pressure issue at idle, which ended up being the front plate on the pump if I remember correctly. Oil pressure at idle is only around 7PSI. What RPM did the light come on at? Do you have the time to open the bottom end up and look at the bearings, pump, and pickup tube? And I'd suggest you get that Lucas @!*% out of there. All it is is super thick gear oil pretty much which is not what these engines need.
  10. That's how mine came out, but without touching the torsion bars.
  11. Lol looks like good times man. Sooo many times my truck shouldn't have made it home, much less without a single issue and still driving as straight as before. Amazing really.
  12. Okay, you'll need to buy a new flex plate spacer for the Z engine then. It gets pressed in to the back of the block to center/support the flex plate and torque converter. Or. Do a 5-speed swap while you have the engine out and save yourself from replacing a transmission later on when it fails.
  13. You GTFO. Don't @!*% on his parade. If you would read, he said that it will be fiber glassed over and this is just temporary. Keep up with the good work man and don't listen to Tungsten. Good luck with the project! Have you thought about mounting a power outlet to the back of the console and adding some nice cup holders?
  14. Oh boy, more free Z engines going in to Pathfinders... Good stuff. The '86+ VG blocks should all have the same mounting bosses, so you'll be good on motor mounts and what not if that's the case. I had to modify my Pathfinder mounts to work with my '84 Z engine. Intake, valve covers, distributor, oil pan, and a few other little things are all that need to be swapped. Make sure you use the Pathfinder intake manifold gaskets. Is your Pathfinder and the Z automatic? Or manual? Or?
  15. Got a buddy with a Z24 in his Datsun 620 that was talking about doing the same thing, just wasn't sure what all is needed. So I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
  16. Awesomesauce. Theoretically it would seem that you'd only need the single plug distributor and (I think) M14x1.25 bolts for the unused holes.
  17. What? Body lift affects nothing in the suspension. They raise the body further off the frame. Parts will not fail faster and neither will wheel bearings. The 33s will probably slow the rig down some due to the added weight and circumference, as well as throw your speedometer and odometer off a little.
  18. Also, the reason why the engine would start with your foot to the floor is because that activates a cool feature that shuts down the fuel injectors so you CAN start the engine in case it got flooded.
  19. Um. No, they are twin spark for emissions. Z24s have an emissions head. My '76 L20 TOTALLY has a problem with not enough spark, yep because it's old. So do all the old single spark plug engines that purr like kittens.
  20. The tin foil thing is the hot air pickup to aid in warming the engine. Almost all carbureted/TBI engines have them. Do check for codes, that's always the first thing to do.
  21. All the alarm does is honk and flash the lights. It's also passive and goes off after 30 seconds of entry. That's how my '88 stock alarm is.
