Newbie Here Looking to Pick Up an R50 Soon
tekazgtr1984 replied to 05G35's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yes, as long as it's translate-able. I'm gonna have to practice my Pezzish. -
You make a good point. But SUV's aren't meant to be "fast", at least not when considering off-road capability.
-
If there is a loss in power, it must be minimal at best. I've driven my friend's '98 LE with 4.3's and stock tires and it feels pretty much the same as mine with the 32's...

Works for me, B! I'm just glad to see a section dedicated to custom fabbing!

You'll have no problem with either gears in terms of 265/75R16's.

It took me a minute to understand what this meant... Then I say Pezzy's reply. -
Will this section be organized based on the mod in particular, or the generation of Pathy?
-
Yup, it really blows TJM stopped making those beauties...
-
Yup, stick with Nissan and make a badass WD21. Or buy a car...

Meh, FIIK...

I guess I should have been clearer on this backspacing thing. I'm only quoting the figures given to me by the guy who ordered my wheels for me. He said they were 4.75" backspacing but then again he also ordered the wrong wheels... I asked for the Pro Comp RC51's and when they arrived they were clearly not Pro Comp wheels. So he may have been mistaken with the backspacing. What I do know is this: they're AR 767 wheels, 16x8 with adequate backspacing to not result in them coming in to contact with the struts.

custom exhaust for a VQ35, diameter suggestions?
tekazgtr1984 replied to Justin517's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Right you are, Lax. And that I'm still trying to figure out. Worst comes to worst I'll just have to build a custom hood! -
Well, the QD32ETI is an inline-4 so I don't think it would be all that much of a jar-of-pennies rattler. It wouldn't be fast but it could still maintain highway speeds without a hitch. Unlike the VG33E, the diesel sips and provides substantial torque comparitively. Cost was the killer, though.

You said it all right there. With the VG33ER it's similar enough to pose any mounting problems. A VQ swap was considered but then I researched a turbo diesel (JDM R50 engine from '97-'99 was the QD32ETI). But after factoring in cost, shipping, etc., I can spend about half on a VG33ER swap and put the rest towards air lockers and body work. As for s/c longevity, I don't imagine it'll be all that bad... A pulley upgrade would be wise I assume. -

As far as I know, it just needs to be lowered along with the tranny x-member... -

I'm exploring a supercharger upgrade for my '98 and there are several factors to consider. Luckily, the VG33E came supercharged on the '02-'04 Xterra so OEM hardware modification is a possibility. I've also been exploring an all-out swap, simply dropping a VG33ER into my rig to makes things easier (It would also make beefing up the R50 VG33E a lot easier.) Hood modification is a must unless you consider a subframe drop. My plan is to install the SFD but not install the engine mounts to raise it up, therefore giving me additional clearance without cutting up the hood. For this to work, I will need to lower the transmission, which may benefit the drivetrain in the end as this won't put the driveshaft at such an angle. An exhaust system will be necessary so I'm planning a 2.25" with 2.5" out. -

You're going to boost a VQ35? -
It's all in the backspacing!
-
Yes, go custom! It's a lot fun!
-
Well, I spent the cash on getting the kit built, so my intentions still are to get it and install it.
-
I know my R50 has the RE4R01A tranny. I'm assuming the Xterra uses the same transmission as it's the same engine save the s/c. But I'm kind of unsure because when I asked about a clutch upgrade from Exedy, I was told the transmissions weren't the same and that there was "no way it would work"... (quoting the Exedy rep who clearly can't do his job) So what the sh*t? Yeah, CN and CP offers similar service so I'm getting a feel for both to find out who can help with this for a better rate.

Found a junkered Xterra in BC, VG33ER in perfect working order! Now I just gotta price out shipping...

Hey, a lot of good info on the SFD here: http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=20588 Quite a few guys on NPORA who have done the SFD or are in the process of building one. I'm hoping to install mine in the spring and I'll be definitely making a write-up with pictures. You said you spoke to a Japanese guy regarding the SFD. If you need anything translated, let me know.

Bahahaha Now that's some gooooooood taste... -
Bah, no need to apologize at all! That's what NPORA is for: obtaining knowledge on the Pathfinder.
