  1. That's a pretty solid price for those Baer rotors. I wonder if there are matching pads for the R50? Rumour has it Brembo makes a set for the R50. Can anyone confirm this?
  2. I'd say that's definitely accurate and you're probably right. If not all shocks come with boots then the boots aren't necessarily vital... Probably just good for preventative maintenance and for those who don't bother checking things out regularly.
  3. Haha, it definitely merits a weird look. I was wondering about this because I've seen many rigs with shocks that don't have boots... Motorcycles and mountain bikes typically don't have boots so meh.
  4. Is it possible to just run without the boots installed? Obviously, it would be imperative to keep the shocks clean but I'm just wondering...
  5. I'd rather you call positive camber, Dan...
  6. I was gonna say that looks like some mad positive camber...
  7. Don't let Alex's cynical comments get to you... Just the way he is.
  8. Yup, K&N filters are garbage. The oil tends to collect/accumulate inside the intake, etc. and will lead to common intake-related problems. If you have a K&N filter, ditch that piece of junk and go OEM or any non-oiled equivalent. For the 90-95 WD21's and 96-99 R50's, HKS offers a great triple-foam filter that's re-useable and a breeze to keep clean. I installed mine back in November and it's been great. http://www.hksusa.com/images/?id=2943
  9. Both are equally sh*tty, but it's Dan's FTW.
  10. Yeah, but the WD21 isn't a crappy Honda... Eh, Dan?
  11. I'll have to take your word on that. But yes, the oil filter on the VG is in a most awful place...
  12. Well once this relo kit's installed time won't be much of an issue for replacing the filter.
  13. Right you are, Dan. You're absolutely right; I'll just stick with what's good. If the Motul filters were easier to find and not a gargantuan amount of dough, I'd be inclined to try one.
  14. Mornin' ya'll... Well, more snow and crappy weather's been hampering my progress in getting this filter relo kit installed. Luckily, I'm able to do a bit more research regarding other aspects of the VG's oil system. I'm running Castrol Syntec 5W30 and will continue to do so unless a shipment of Eneos FullSyn gets to a friend in the city. I'm presently using a Napa Gold oil filter which has sufficiently served its purpose. But it got me wondering: are there other options out there worth exploring? K&N? Bosch? They're essentially all the same, I know. But I'm a stickler for knowledge.
  15. So DexronIII ATF will work in the t-case? Well, that's good to know. I'm going to try your approach and run Redline in both diffs. I plan on doing air lockers both F & R and have heard good about Redline fluids.
  16. Thanks for the info! I know for sure I have open diffs so LSD gear oil is still okay?
  17. Does LSD or open diff change what fluid should be used?
  18. Thanks for clarifying that for me. I had a feeling weather played but the short trip issue never really crossed my mind. Luckily, I make sure when I take short trips, especially in colder months, I allow the engine ample time to warm up and eliminate any condensation accumulation. To get back to this issue of octane/compression/mileage/etc., based on my own experience, my mileage has appeared to have improved on account of using 91 octane fuel. Especially on the highway, my R50 sips. My friend with a same year R50 gets worse mileage than I do running 87... Granted he's got 4.3's; I've got 4.6's and 32's... Overall, running 91 octane has been beneficial in my case.
  19. Yup, definitely stay synthetic should you make the change. So changing my oil every 3,000 miles is pretty much pointless? I'm running Castrol Syntec 5W30 and am doing oil changes at intervals between 3-4k based on my old man's advice. After reading up on this thread, it sounds like I could probably stretch it out to 5-6k or even higher. I'm also wondering, does weather play a factor here? Where I live, the seasons differ greatly. Naturally, this puts more stress on a vehicle so perhaps more frequent oil changes would benefit the life of the vehicle. In the first 11 months since picking up my R50, I've only put about 10,000km (6,000 miles). Essentially, I'm only doing two oil changes over a 12 month period. That seems average but the mileage I've put on is way below the norm... For what it's worth, I guess just sticking to 6 month intervals is ideal...
