anyone familiar with this?
tekazgtr1984 replied to exit34rocker1017's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
X2. I noticed if I keep the defrost/feet vent setting on, air moves freeley whether the fan is on or not. Turn it to defrost only and it seems to help. -
I'm pretty sure the AC coils level out, and when they do, your rear end will sit slightly higher than the front. I think spacers are needed to level out the front regardless of which coils are used.
-
I ordered mine through AC when they had a sale back in late November '08. Total came to ~$180CAD after shipping, duty/customs, and the exchange rate. At $200USD, something isn't right. At all. Keep shopping around.

I ran my '98 with the OME coils and without hubs for well over 6 months and, for the most part, had no major issues with the CV axles. Bearing in mind they were still the OEM axles from the factory (with about 160k km), when I did check them out the boots were as good as toast. I replaced mine and installed the manual hubs and it has helped. To say it's essential when lifting a R50 is debatable, IMO.

What happens when you don't shut off the engine and try to put the t-case in 4LO in N?
-
You shouldn't have to shut off the engine to put the t-case in 4LO. As long as the tranny is in P or N and the vehicle isn't in motion you should be able to engage 4LO. Turning off the engine when the transmission isn't engaged seems redundant to me.

I'd PM him to find that out. I know there's a write-up; just not sure where. I think flex hose was used or something.
-
SFD and 33s aside, the airbox is still low in the R50. Hydrolocking an engine does take a fair amount of water but avoiding that scenario altogether makes spending ~$400 a good idea to me. And do what Dan did: get the D22 Navara/Frontier snorkel. It mounts up pretty much the same and does not require cutting any steel.

I second that. It's always the best option in terms of functionality and, truth be told, it just looks kick-ass!

Front axle options for SAS
tekazgtr1984 replied to Balmer's topic in Solid Axle Swaps, Hardcore Custom Fab
Just putting it out there, as this SAS stuff is way beyond me, but would a late 80's-early 90's Patrol/Safari SFA work? -
Looks good! OME FTW

Warn Premium Manual Locking Hubs
tekazgtr1984 replied to OfftourRoadie96's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Haven't tried that yet but I wouldn't rule it out. After installing them, though, turning does feel a lot smoother and lighter when in 2WD. -
Who wants a set of aftermarket suspension links?
tekazgtr1984 replied to tmorgan4's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Oh, it'd be a few months of custom work, that's for sure. That fuel cell idea caught my attention, though, regardless of a 4-link set up or not. Well, Dave (DavefromOZ) has found two QD32ETI units for relatively good prices excluding duty; my lack of funds is what's holding me back right now. -
Who wants a set of aftermarket suspension links?
tekazgtr1984 replied to tmorgan4's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yeah, I'd probably be wise to just stick with an upgraded OEM rear-end and put that money towards other mods, i.e., lockers, diesel engine, etc... -
So to make the 7100's work, they're mounted upside down on his R50?
-
Of course routine maintenace will help keep your R50 running well and thus maintain consistent and favourable fuel economy. Manual hubs and intake will also help. Replacing broken/malfunctioning sensors will evidently help, too. If everything is running as it should and your mileage is crap, a diagnostic will often help clarify any electronic issues. Tires are also a huge factor for gas mileage. What size and type you run will affect fuel economy, too.

These products all seem relatively decent; there is quite a bit of pertinent information missing, though. The Lovell coils seem alright; would be nice if measurements and rates were included. I'd still stick with OME for coils. The Ultima struts are supposed to be quite good. Some real-world criticism would be good, perhaps from actual customers/testers. I'd still go with OME struts, though. IronMan is totally news to me. The information given seems sound but again, some actual customer feedback and pictures would be reassuring. All things considered, Old Man Emu appears to be ahead of the game. On another note, I saw a lifted JDM R50 Terrano with red coils. I'm not sure of the brand but the truck looked pretty solid. It seems like the vast majority of aftermarket support for the R50 falls into a very particular niche, limited mostly to Australia and Japan...

Nah, I think it's that new mounts are required altogether to fit 7100 series shocks on a 99.5+ R50. Alex got it done so it is possible.

Winter I'm averaging ~18mpg, now that it's warm out again I'm getting ~21mpg. At this point in time, it's all city driving so I'm happy with how far I can stretch a tank. ~35mpg with a turbo diesel would be a LOT nicer though... Take that 'Teg gods.
-
Hey, I'm just the same. But it's fun to learn! To be honest, I can't wait.
-
I'm totally interested, Dave. Money's just not my friend at the moment... When this new job starts and I start makin' the fed cash, I'll prolly get you to send me all kinds of R50 goodies. It's nice to have friends down under.
-
You'll never get the mad-as-balls low-end torque of a turbo diesel out of a V6... A V8 yes, but there goes the wicked mileage. A L4 turbo diesel is a solid option for any SUV because it offers responsiveness, consistent low-end torque and amazing fuel economy. A lot of people make the assumption that diesels are loud and rattling; not the case when it's a 3.2L 4-cylinder.

So you want to lift your 96-up Pathy?
tekazgtr1984 replied to BigBikeMike's topic in R50 FAQ's & Pinned Topics
Hell yeah! Overall, the quality and durability of the OME coils are superior and the difference in price is negligible. When it comes to something as crucial as suspension, quality parts go a long way. Depending on how you plan to wheel your R50 shouldn't be a factor, either. -
Mine's full o' pimp change.
