  1. Thanks Red, thats just what I need right now. Seems the EGT is also on that circut. I hope thats the culprit since EGR was the code I hade BEFORE it failed. (I think EGT sensor is in the EGR tube to meeter its function) Still pouring over other possiblities before I brave the cold. GOOD find JAMES! You may be up and running soon. HEY if you can get the stripe colors off a working board we could prolly fix that
  2. Powder Coat Cardinal BK08 Black. Its 20% gloss and 120lbs per inch impact resitance. Its one of the strongest powdercoatings in the industry and it looks good! Just check out my wheels.
  3. I agree with there being a short somewhere. The codes are only being thrown after the burn (cutting the wire would have the same effect) so I think that almost rules out any devices malfunctioning. (unless the short is inside the device). We found a stray dog today So I did not get any time to trace wires. Bowser (as we call him)
  4. So I repaired both ECU's but I can't drive this thing anywhere untill I know the source of the problem. And it seems to be getting worse. I barely finished testing the second ecu when the solder melted on the repair. I took some pics too. The first one indicates the pin the circut is on. The burnt circut and the repair job are indicated by the tip of the red stir straw in the second two pics. click to enlarge...
  5. Ok well looking at the outside of the ECU on the Far right harness, its the third pin from the right on the top row.The wire is solid black with orange dots I have no pin out diagrams for the TBI ECU and I hate electrical stuff. Updated OP to keep info together.
  6. I can't win can I? Finally Got my 89 running, turns out the probelm was in the ECU. Get Federal ecu in it and down the road the same thing happens again. While waiting for my ride I open up the old CA ecu and find a burned circut on the pinted circut board. Looking at the outside of the ECU on the Far right harness, its the third pin from the right on the top row The wire is solid black with orange dots WTF I bet the the one under the seat just had the same thing happen... Maybe too much power? I think I need to check my alty. any other possible causes? I'll have to pull this other ecu out and see if it has the same issue. Then I'm gonna bridge the burnt connection and see if that gets me a working ecu (or 2) again. but WTF with the surge? and as far as codes go; 43 TPS, 12 MAF, 13 COOLANT I think they are all on the same circut... I know a bad coolant sensor will not cause any burnt wires but could a TPS or MAF do some electrical damage if it failed?
  7. no thats pretty straight foward aside from the wimpy arms lol. Hey I been tossing arround the idea of bolting the rods to the top of the LCA on my 89 since its lifted.(normally they are bolted to the bottom) My theroy is if you have over 2" of lift doing so can reduce brake dive and help keep castor angles more regular thru the wheel travel.
  8. I found som FIAM (???) horns in the JY. I left stock in place and put them next to each one. sounds pretty good to me.
  9. Ok just dealt with 43 TPS, 12 MAF, 13 COOLANT sensor They all share the same ground. The ground was actually shorted out inside the ECU. In the past (more than once) 43 TPS, 12 MAF, 47 CAS, 53 O2 sensor Injectors, I think I had one more code than that when my python injectors failed after 4 months. ALSO the CAS code is very sensitve. It is known to throw down after missfires, turing your cap too far when setting the timing or putting the dizzy in wrong among a few other false causes.
  10. yes a tank Pressure sensor could be made but canisters go way back and allot of them haven't changed much. Why re-invent the wheel? and by way back I mean carby vehicles could get all kinds of messed up by plugging the carbon canister line.
  11. yep and most of my heat was on hwy 20 and 128 goin ~30mph and 45 Max to and from mendocino. and In traffic... the shift kit makes changes to the valve body and as I understand it the HD tranny had changes made to the clutches and other internal components so as far as I know the kit will work on the HD too. You may want to email superior shift about it to be sure. they were pretty responsive when I emailed them. Also the shift kit makes shifting a bit stiffer so you may not want more if you get the HD in and find its already crisp enough for you.
  12. Its not about tank pressure its about the tank pressures impact on the rest of the fuel system. More consitant tank PS means more consitant fuel line PS and that means more consitant flow rates from the injectors. Yeah we have Fuel regulators but they only work for consitant pump pressure most can't compensate for any other variables without frequent ajustment.
  13. the 3 wire signals are usually meant to be used as running lights and turn signals. The ground needs to be grounded, the low watt wire needs to splice with your side marker and the High Watt (brighter) needs to go to your turn signal. The higher wattage will slow down your blink rate. I think whats happening is you are running both filaments in series because there is no ground in between. When you hit the brake there is not enough current to keep the front lit and just like when you have a bulb burned out when the blinker runs faster.
  14. I had a dream that I got in trouble at work and my punishment was to get sent back to basic training for a few weeks and then go back to work. When I got there all the "Punished" trainees were in one flight separate from the new recruits. The Drill sergeant had us hooked up, on the outside we were beeing drilled and grilled but inside the dorm building (co-ed) we had better beds, TV, Xbox, beers every night and so on. He knew yelling 24/7 at grown men who had been there & back, plus treating them like children, wouldn't be easy so he didn't even try. thus our "punishment" was more like an incovienent and temporary relocation lol.
  15. Perhaps, but with the fan turned Off its only an 18,000 LB which is the recomended amount. Now consider the conditions I will encounter; On the road for 14+ hours non-stop with a wife, baby, 2 dogs, luggage(Aprox 700lbs more cargo than normal daily driving) and possibly a small trailer (another 1,000lbs) the last thing I wanna worry about Is keeping my Tranny cool. I Currently have an 16k+10k (26,000 lb) and the heat on the curvy, hilly roads without a trailer made me decide I want more. With 60 degree ambient air thru the hills I was running the 180~190 at the pan and 200+ Directly out of the TC. Imagine if I made the trip during the day and in the summer with a small trailer. Having the fan to kick in when I need it would be great. Now for JUST a dialy driver and Occasoinal towing (not more than a few hours) I agree this would be overkill.
  16. but looking at his pic, "Q" being quite mystical and never staying put; He prolly "aquired" it from a soccer mom, thru no direct Interferance (like the character) and now wants to Lift it before he dissapears again. (avid star trek fans will get this)
  17. Not allot of active SAS guys here. so If you don't get an answer don't feel bad. Nissan4wheelers.com Is full of them so Good luck there if you can't find it here. But still they aren't as awesome as us lol
  18. Ok I has returned... as said 2001+ xterras and frontiers for the HD. Superior shift also makes a kit that vastly impoves shifting and corrects the lubrication issues of the old trannys. Its $40 and fairly easy to do. All but 2 steps can be done in place and the last 2 are not mandatory but are recomended if you ever have the tranny out. Our condensers are HUGE 27x14 and our a/c's can blow like freezers. I want to do the same thing; smaller condenser, Bit AT cooler right next to it.... So I went and read about AC systems and automotive AC systems. I found out smaller condser, say 14" wide, will make your AC pump harder to turn so its possible you may lose 1/4~1/2 MPG when the AC is on Hopefully we don't lose any at all. The smaller condenser will not dispate as much heat from the compressed Gas so it will be hotter when enters the expansion block (this is where the refrigerant expands and expanding gasses get cold when they do so) It is unknown the exact temperature impact in degrees but you will still have cold air, Prolly like a fridge instead of a freezer. Now I think my 89 compressor clutch is activated by a pressure switch so the pressure conditions stay the same as before only with the smaller condeser it ramps up faster so the cycles are more often. (same pressures less cold) But if the later models have a temperature switch then the system will run higher pressures on the High side for more cooling and thus temperatures will stay the same.(differant pressures same cold) I got some measurements. Condenser 27x14. (could fit up to 15 tall) (up to 17 pass side, no hood release in the way) Radiator to inside of grille 4.5" I went to summit racing and found universal condensers and there seems to be a limit to how small they get. But you should find one that frees up some room and our stock one has a block fitting on one side so we need to replace the line from our compressor with one that has an AN fitting and an extended line from one side or the other. I plan to keep the AC on the drivers side so the Cooler lines and stuff stay on the passengers side. I have a 4" thick 10x15 cooler(26,000lb) with thermostat fan on the way for the tranny so it will be going on the pass side with some grille shaving I can keep it .75" from the radiator and I still have 18x15 left for a condenser, Look at that! http://www.summitracing.com/parts/VTA-03260-VUC/ Ok I think thats all I was gonna say last night... If you have questions feel free.
  19. easy, he's calling the the Q a soccer mom ride.
  20. You are quite lucky my friend. I just finished doing my homework on that exact Idea and have already orderd parts to put it in motion. Our condensers are HUGE 27x14 and our a/c's can blow like freezers. ... Something came up I will finish this later but the short answer is you can.
  21. those lighs are sweet! But they are so shiny and clean it makes the rest of the veh look bad lol.
  22. Man I wish I saw this sooner. I just orderd mw a 26,000LB flex a lite tube and fin cooler with fan for $180 But PolyP. Offers a 25,000 Derale stacked plate model with fan for $145
  23. no he's running aftermarket halogens just like mine. You can find em on ebay.
