What’s the longest drive you have ever had in your Pathfinder ?
BowTied replied to TheCrow's topic in General Forums
Is that like a pop-up tent trailer? How did it tow for you? Do you tow in overdrive or not? Thanks. -
Good for you!! Keep us posted and take some pics...

Welcome to NPORA. Is it the key, the slot in the crank or both damaged? You should be able to buy a new key, the crank I think? could welded, but not sure if could done without removal (ideally remove the crank). If the slot is damaged it will likely fail again without a repair.

Isn't this the stuff that used to be advertised with "linkite" or some simialr magic ingredient? I though there was a class action law suit? EDIT: http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.shtm http://www.carbibles.com/additives.html

The resistor still has its colour bands showing, you should be able to buy a cheap replacement at any electronics store, just take the old one with you.

Is this simply an open rear diff? There maybe nothing wrong there.... I suggest ignoring the rear axle completely until you get all the front axle issues sorted out. Keep focused, one thing at a time.

I own a 99 Jimmy and an 02 pathy. They do not have a significantly different turning radius, the jimmy is lsightly better but is a 2 door vs the pathy 4 door. HOWEVER, the 91 Jimmy had before 99 had a WAY tighter turning circle. Blows the other two away for that particular thing. Not saying it is worse or better, just that it had a fantastic turning radius, better than anything else I have owned including a cavalier. My 91 rusted out bad tho... sheet metal was terrible. Other than that a very reliable truck with a very comfy interior that looked great, lots of room with good torque.

Something similar happend to a roommate when he put a stereo in his girl friend's Pulsar. He had mistaken the ground for the dash lights and the stereo worked great unless the lights were on where it would blow a fuse. He was stumped until I came along and verified the +12V on the "ground". Best part is he was an electrical engineer technologist and I was in school for mechanical technologist. So verify your grounds are actually grounds and not just acting like a ground. G/L!

Brilliant! This to me is a very efficient way to accomlish this. Please post a pic or specs on the spring. Thanks.

Your CV joint needs replacing if it makes a clunking/popping noise when turning. In my mind this means that your 4x4 is engaging/wprling fine and your front axles should be getting power. If your "puddle" adventure did not have front axle(s) turning then there is an additional issue like the tcase was not engaged properly or the hubs are not locking?

HELP! Auto climate control going ape@!*%
BowTied replied to FUELER's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
I agree to an extent. I'd prefer that.... but I wanted leather seats more (family rig... for now). Can't get an LE without the auto A/C that I know of. -

Hour on the highway should be good if everything is working right. How old is the battery? -

I just replaced mine. In my research, the common failure mode was fan stuck on high (regardless of button presing, not even off). But it would stop when the engine was turned off and did not affect the battery. You could try and swap that, but (at least for my '02) it is at least a $100 part on ebay, closer to $200 at the dealer (non-returnable). Morpheus knows better than I do, just saying don't rule out the head unit. -
Advantages/Disadvantages going from 31's to 33's off-road
BowTied replied to jitterymonkey's topic in General Forums
I am totally noob on off-roading, so take this with a grain (ton) of salt: Looking at this from an engineering perspective: When considering traction you need for a particular off-roading scenario, there is tread design/style of course, but there is also contact patch size which would be dictated by the type of tire to some extent, the width, and the air pressure. You might? find that find the right combination of those items would help as much or more than diameter. Does that make any sense? -

Congrats on the swap. If you have pics, start a new thread, I am sure it will help someone else some time. -
Correct. Turning the key on and off a few times cycles the fuel pump a few times to help build pressure. Normally this isn't needed, but if one of them is failing, this can help over come the problem temporarily. This test does not 100% tell you what the problem is, just more of a quick check. The ECU reset mentioned is what I was thinking when I said to take it for a good drive (hour). I would be surprised that disconnecting the battery (wrong order of terminals or not) would cause this type of damage, but anything is possible.

My Pathy on the fritz! idle Spudder...Gas guzzler!
BowTied replied to Sil80sydways's topic in 86.5-89 WD21 Pathfinders
If it is throttle body, I would look at the O2 sensors as noted. Not really a choke on the TBs I have worked on (non Nissan). That is pretty cold, where do you live - Northern Manitoba? -

I suspect the original thermostat was stuck open. If you noticed little change by removing the stat, this likely confirms it. A new stat may fix it - however if the old stat stuck open due to crud in the system, the new stat may eventually suffer the same fate - a cooling system flush with a new stat and a new cap is recommended. "Carb injection" ???? Do you mean throttle body injection? If you meant that it is a just a carburator, then likley the choke is not working properly. THis can cause stalling when cold, running rich and black smoke can be caused by a stuck choke, this can lead to rough running and wasted fuel. HTH. EDIT: if it is regularily -25C or less over night where you are, I suggest using a block heater to make life easier. -
No impact to tire wear. You would have to have a big difference before it would cause any balance issue. If the weight in question was near the outside of the rim, it would make more of difference (closer the centre the less the impact to balance). If you didn't notice any vibration when the nut was missing, you won't notice it with a nut that slightly different.

Simon is correct. There are bound to be similar lugs on other vehicles in your area. Do you have salvage yards for vehicles there? If so, they should have lots around, just may not look exactly the same. Take one with you to match it up.

I am impressed you are doing this work yourself. Where in Ontario are you? I am in London.
