  1. you should be able to hear the pump whirring for a few seconds after you turn the key to ACC or Start. try jumpstarting with the jeep and see if you can at least get it running. im not sure, but I think the truck will run without an alternator and good battery as long as you have the jumper cables hooked up with a working vehicle. My guess is you need a new battery and you should test that alternator. If it fried a ground wire, the voltage regulator might be gone, or it has a dead short in it somewhere.
  2. sorry, i had to rewrite my response
  3. negative backspace is the same as negative offset. The number denotes how far the mounting surface is from the center of the wheel
  4. mmm paint doesn't stick to chrome very well. I would take them to get sandblasted, then prime and paint them.
  5. i like the rancho 5112's. I have 5124's on the front to match. You gain a little more rear articulation with them and they provide a decent ride. I don;'t know if you had a 3" body lift, but if you do, you will have to figure out how to lower the parking brake anchors on the body so they don't stretch with your new found articulation. The factory adjustable shocks were charged with a metallic liquid that would get stiffer depending on how strong of an electric current that passes through it. At least that's how I think they worked.
  6. looks like it fits well! damn gas is expensive there too
  7. i'd be interested in one as well. dowser, we could go splits on shipping and meet up somewhere in between
  8. sweet, glad you guys made it through that. I was watching the news last night when ........ when down, there is some pretty crazy footage flying around the tubes right now.
  9. put it on the hood like the old land rovers
  10. it would be so annoying to have to lift things over the spare tire when loading the trunk, i am glad my carrier swings out of the way (I use the rear cargo area a lot). I wouldn't do a roof mount either. Simon had one on there and didn't like the way it changed the COG. It wouldn't be easy to wrestle a 35" tire up there either. If the carrier is properly designed, the load will be spread over 2 points - the hinge (or hinges incase of the stock unit) and the area where it latches together opposite the hinge. The only time the hinges take all the weight is when you have the carrier opened and hopefully you're not moving. IMO swingout is the best design, which is why i kept mine and slightly modified it. i drilled new spare tire mounting holes to move my spare up another inch or so, but you could go higher (except it will interfere with the glass hatch). I will hit the bumper before I hit the tire, but i wouldn't mind a little more height in your case. those rock trails you run are very lumpy. If you still dont want a swing out, i would build a bumper/carrier with a hinge in the middle of the bumper. attach a long arm to it and mount the tire on the end of the arm. Then figure out a way to lock the arm in 3 positions (high, mid and low). Kinda like a clock face with only one arm and a tire on the end of it, you know?
  11. make friends with your local crane operator they always have lots of old extra slings and straps that are overkill for anything we would use them for. I have 4 or 5 of them in the basement, my friend gives me a couple new ones every year! They don't pass safety (too old, etc.) for commercial crane use, but they are usually in great shape for trail use
  12. oh yeah i forgot about the necessity to move the ECU to higher ground. The snorkel purchase doesn't make much sense unless you do that in conjuction
  13. lol, not our brightest moments eh? at least we learned from them
  14. this was the reason for me getting one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7lQEOCd8iDk i was lucky nothing happened to the engine. it really is a pain in the ass to get a dead truck out of a hole. now i worry more about getting water in the cabin than engine.
  15. sandblast, epoxy primer then glossy black rattlecan!
  16. no, it's behind the bumper by the turn signal light
  17. behind the front bumper and rad support
  18. I don't think electric cars will work for the cold climates like canada, scandinavia and russia... not until they figure out how to make a battery that doesn't lose performance when the temps dip.
  19. unless it's a high-powered mud bogger/plugger, i think diesels make a better wheeling engine. They blow away gas engines when it comes to down low torque rating, they're more efficient, and they don't throw a fit when splashed with a bit of water. 24v starting circuit would be nice for the cold winters we get in canada. I don't think i would want that 3.5l in my wd21. It takes premium gas, its way more complex (more sensors, cats etc.) and would leave you with next to no underhood space for wrenching. I don't think the vg30e is such dog like most people around here feel... it's moved my truck around the town and trails just fine. A factory F+R live axle xterra/frontier would be pretty cool it would be cool to see the datsun name come back for the a D22 based mini truck. Just a plain little pickup as the d22 xe. I don't know why nissan decided to drop the SWB regular cab pickup. That was a dumb move. I think the D22 is still being sold brand new all over the world as a "navara" except f'n north america. I don't know why this continent constantly gets the shaft when it comes to nice trucks. Where are my diesel Patrols, Landcruisers, Tacomas, Navaras, Terranos, Pajeros, 4runners, Stradas, Troopers, ...UAZ-469? Why do we have to buy a jeep or fullsize domestic pickup to get a diesel around here!?
  20. mine was 2250kg on a recent trip to the garbage dump. i imagine i carry another 150kg in tools and equipment when wheeling. that's a bit shy of 5000lbs for the brits and yanks
  21. i am only going to talk about trucks. I detest most of the nissan cars. #1 Diesel engine options, HD option for Titan. #2 Designers stop listening to the critics and consumers. You're the one that knows how to design trucks. Most consumers and critics are idiots which is why you see IFS and IRS on the patrol and pathfinder now. (did every road in the world suddenly get paved it the last 10 years?) #3 A small, barebones pickup (no, the frontier is neither small nor barebones) i don't know where this notion came from that bigger and glitzier shi!t is better. Give us back our part time t-cases, manual hubs rollup windows, vinyl floors etc. A basic, sturdy, easy to fix platform to build a trail truck on. #4 Stop cutting corners to make vehicles cheaper/lighter. An aluminum diff cover? please This comes back to idiot consumers and critics. They are too concerned about price, fuel economy and comfort it's a truck FFS. I will gladly pay more money for a better product. How often do you buy a new truck anyway? Speaking of being cheap, put the pathfinder 5-link coil on the xterra, and i would consider buying one. even Dodge is smart enough to realize this. #5 better factory performance part support. Jeep has mopar. Nissan has nismo. gee, thanks for the license plate covers and shift knobs... they probably void your warranty too. Thank god for companies like ARB, Rugged Rocks, 4x4parts.com and people who are able to make their own performance parts. Until they address some of this, i will NEVER buy a nissan newer than 2005. 1 more thing: fix the f@#$&ing window trim! it's been decades and they still make it the same!! I have a lot of respect for the jeep wrangler. It is the one and only truck that has stayed true to it's roots and no matter what model year you buy, they make a great trail truck out of the box. I can't say the same for nissan. Stop pussifying the very trucks that got you where you are today. Force the losers to buy the murano and rogue.
  22. if you guys have any footage of me, feel free to send it to them, i don't mind at all. If i am going to submit some of my stuff, i'll ask you first if you are in the video and let you know which one it is.
  23. here's the article i read about doubling your marker lights as signal lights http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/markerflash/markerflash.html
  24. i tried to find some nice volkswagen lights too, but i decided to get some round led markers to pop in. I wired them to flash with the turn signal too, it's super easy.
