  1. Ive had this engine in two vehicles now. My current 2003 R50, and previously a 2007 Quest that my wife bought new and drove for 10 years and 150k miles. Both engines used oil about the same rate at around 1 quart every 1500-2000 miles or so. No oil leaks in either engine. Its just something these engines are prone to, I learned to live with it and check the oil more often. Everything else about the truck is great.
  2. I should add that I replaced both CVs not long after lifting it due to cracked boots. Technically they cracked after the lift, but I attribute that more to the age of the joints and the rubber being old and dried out. The new joints and boots have had no trouble.
  3. Im running 2.5 in front. It definitely puts the CVs at the limit for angles, but I havent had any issues yet. I do have manual hubs which helps a lot. But, I also run with the front hubs locked most of the time in the winter to save having to get out of the truck, and so far everything is good.
  4. Moog makes an oem replacement set. Those seem to be the ones I see used most often when people are looking for stock spring replacements. I actually have a set with only a couple thousand miles on them collecting dust in my garage. If you were closer Id let you have them, but from reading your posts I dont think you live anywhere near me (Delaware).
  5. Also keep in mind wheel backspacing for strut clearance. 265/70/16 will clear the strut. 265/75/16 will sometimes clear and sometimes hit depending on the tire brand and how aggressive the tread is. Anything bigger will require either wheel spacers or new wheels with less backspacing.
  6. I went with a double din in my 03 recently and it fits great, no trimming needed. I also used the adapter that allows you to retain the bose speakers and amp and it sounds really good.
  7. Here’s the drop hitch I’m using, got it from Lowe’s. I think it’s a 7.5 inch drop? I like that it gets the trailer almost level, but it’s a little loose in the receiver so it makes the whole rig feel a bit more clunky and pulls a bit over bumps. I have a 5 inch drop hitch that I may go back to next time even though it makes the trailer ride a little nose up, because it fits the receiver tighter and makes for a more stable ride overall. 8. It was loaded a little heavy toward the front, so Id guess around 180-190 tongue weight?
  9. Used mine this weekend for another towing trip. With a lightly loaded trailer (maybe 1700 lbs total), 3 kids across the backseat, and the back filled with luggage and a cooler it sat just a little under level and road fine. The stock springs would have just about bottomed out with that same load.
  10. Rim wasnt referring to part of the wheel, I just use the word rim and wheel interchangeably, rim=wheel. A 15 or more year old wheel that has hit who knows how many potholes and other bumps is actually very likely to be a bit deformed and no longer perfectly round, which adds another whole factor to the balancing equation.
  11. The 3.75 backspacing recommendation is assuming you will be running larger tires after the lift. You can usually get up to a 31 inch tire on the stock rims, but anything taller than that runs the risk of having the top of the tire hit the bottom of the strut mount with the stock rims. Rims with shorter backspacing move the tire out so it will clear the strut with larger tire sizes.
  12. The general guideline for tire balancing weights is that the total weights used shouldnt exceed 1% of the total wheel and tire weight. The Falken website says that tire is 42lbs. Idk what the oem 17 inch rim weighs, but lets assume its at least 20 lbs. 62 lbs is roughly 1000 ounces, so that would allow up to 10 ounces of balancing weights to still be in spec. Even with 17 of those 1/4 ounce weights its still less than half the allowed amount and thus well within range. Obviously you should take it back if your not happy with it, but my guess is that youll find out the rim is either bent or slightly out of round and thats probably about as good as its going to get. When I was still using the original rims on my 03 two of them were out of round and required more weight to balance. As long as they still balanced and I couldnt feel anything while driving, I didnt worry about it.
  13. Does it drive fine? If there is no vibration or anything to indicate a problem Id leave it alone.
  14. 265/75/16 will fit fine with 4 backspacing. Why such a wide rim though? 16x10 isnt necessary for that tire size. 16x8 would be ideal I think.
  15. I have no particular brand loyalty (frankly I think its silly). Every auto maker has wins and losses in their history, and the LS line of V8s is a definite win. If you can find a way to make one work in the r50, its an excellent choice!
  16. The rear springs dont have any specific orientation. Sometimes spring manufacturers use colored markings just to identify the correct springs in inventory. Ive never seen that with the stock r50 springs, but Land Rover uses color codes to identify different spring rates since the springs basically all look the same.
  17. I still had a link saved to the repair bulletin, here are the Nissan part numbers for the bracket kits. F4195 0W00C drivers side F4194-0W00A passenger side
  18. Weather is beautiful today so decided to clean some of the “winter” off of the winter beater! (I use the word beater a bit loosely, truth is I love the old R50!) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Yes they work together. I ran the airlift 1000 with 2.5 inch spacers in the rear. The airlift kit calls for removing the bump stops in stock application. With the spacers, youll need to leave the bump stop in place and the bump stop will fill the extra space from the lift and still allow the air bags to work by resting on the bump stop. I had to trim about an inch off the bottom of the bump stop to get the right length to match up with the air bags.
  20. Its just a guess, but there may be some kind of a brace or support under the roof panel that also got bent in? That would make sense why you can pull the roof up, but without the under support also pulled up it pops right back down. Again, just a guess.
  21. It’s not a term that’s used much anymore, but it is often used to refer to a condom, at least in the US. Third definition down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Looks great! I like those shocks btw, what model is that?
