  1. These trucks have learning ECUs - they do actually "learn" the engine characteristics; it takes them about 10 minutes or 10 miles (or so) to relearn if they've "forgotten".
  2. As far as I know, no. There's no way to reprogram the ECU. You can either go with MegaSquirt (or some other ECU replacement) or a piggyback unit.
  3. Don't forget to try taking the door panel off and cleaning/lubing the entire lock mechanism.
  4. Yup. Oddly enough the ones for the 86-95 Pathfinders are $150/pair or less.
  5. Wouldn't matter if you did - the fluting is internal as well. If you just replace the lens with a clear one, then you'd have spotlights, not headlights. The stock headlights use the lens to diffuse and direct light. The more recent clear-lensed units use faceted reflectors to do the same thing.
  6. In theory, yes - in practice, the fan can blow oil back beyond where it's leaking.
  7. Torque converter or front pump, IMHO. A 4x4 isn't much harder to pull the trans from - you just have to disconnect the transfer case stuff while you're at it.

  9. No way. A belt can look just fine and fail ten minutes later. Just go ahead and replace it. It's not that hard and it's not that expensive.
  10. Only if the oil pump housing is at fault. It's far more likely that it is the crankshaft (not camshaft) seal at fault.
  11. Wipe/hose down the entire area as clean as you can get it, dust it with talcum powder or cornstarch, then run the engine again and watch it to see where it's leaking. Most likely, it will be coming from the front main seal. It is, however, possible that you cracked the oil pump housing while doing the timing belt if you pried off the crankshaft sprocket as is preferred. If that's the case, you get to remove the engine to fix it.
  12. See the attached pic - is there oil where the green arrow is, or only in the area of the red arrow?
  13. Checked your charge level? If you do not have enough R134a in the system, the pressure switch will cut out the compressor and will not let it engage.

  15. Except that there are dyno tests showing that there is a small but noticable gain in RWHP when an electric is fitted. I wouldn't do it for horsepower reasons on its own - as stated, water crossings are an issue; after-shutdown cooling and better idle cooling are also good reasons to convert. Extended water pump life on some cars has also been noted.
  16. Take it to AutoZone and have them read off the codes for free - that will tell you why the light is on.
  17. Lest you think you're being clever, some Jaguars actually have a part called a muffler bearing - it's part of the exhaust mountings. And Rolls Royces with those neat self-orienting logos on the wheels actually have a fluid in the assembly that orients the logos. Thank you for playing, try actually helping the guy next time instead of being about as funny as amateur night at a club in West BFE.

  19. It won't do anything beneficial. The muffler doubles as a resonator. Also, the smaller diameter pipe would be the limiting factor. You generally want a uniform pipe size from manifold/header to the exhaust tip for best results. Manufacturers use the muffler to attempt to quiet most noise from the engine, then use the resonator to amplify what they think are appropriate frequencies.

Just a heads up - converting a gasoline powered vehicle that was not available in the US with a diesel to diesel power is illegal on the Federal level, as well as in your home state of California. Doesn't matter how old the vehicle is, or how new the diesel is, it's illegal. It makes no sense, but that's what the environazis foisted off on us.
  21. Nissan Canada has been known to import some weird Nissan variants. For example, on the 84-89 300ZX (Z31), only two seaters could have the turbo engine and trim package - except in Canada, where a 2+2 (four seater) was actually available. The 2+2 Turbo was *only* available in Canada, and in limited numbers. Nobody seems to know why. Likewise, the 85-88 U11 Maxima was front-wheel-drive only in most parts of the world, except in Canada where all wheel drive was an option. It was expensive and therefore extremely rare. They also had very strange combinations of option availability and options packages, to the point where you'd see a base-level dashboard with the (for the rest of the world) top-level leather interior. Or vice versa. No rhyme or reason to it, either. There is little documentation on these Canada-only cars, and nobody seems to know why Canada got these different models - not even Nissan Canada.
  22. On modern decks, AM trim is no longer used - they have digital autoadjust.
  23. It's probably the front seal, which you don't need to remove the pump to fix. The actual oil pump removal involves dismantling the engine.
  24. It's not straight through. You can't see through it. From Flowmaster's website, a diagram of the Hushpower II Doesn't look very straight through to me - bet you can't even see from one side to the other. Here's a typical Magnaflow - I have two of these on my Jaguar XJ6: They don't get much more free flowing than that.
  25. Look at the Magnaflow high-flow cat and their muffler.
