  1. Might have to modify your trans cross member a bit too if u have to swap the whole powertrain over, also make sure not to damage the original main wire harness so u can wire your project truck with it, have to swap all engine electronics and probably adapt the emissions too
  2. It would be reasonably easy if you have a donor wrecked vehicle, literally just swap everything over from one truck to the other and mount everything. Custom engine mounts would probably be the only thing you would have to fab other than maybe some oil pan clearance and brackets to mount it all. Seems pretty straight forward as far as swaps go. A vq to vg adapter plate for the engine and trans connection would make things easiest but u could always swap the whole powertrain over and just adapt the drive shafts to work.
  3. My gfs pathy just had the same problem,, only once it got cold and it was horrible leak. Tightened the clamps now its fine, lol
  4. HID headlights, LSD, rear disc brakes, and a functional e brake cable with drop down brackets.
  5. selectable is the only other option i would explore other than LSD, auto is out of the question but thanks for the suggestion
  6. i really do not want an auto locker, this is my winter truck and i need it as sure-footed as possible in the snowy and icy roads where i live... automatic lockers, especially in the front diff are way too much for a winter roads driven daily driver vehicle! if it was strictly trail then i would just go auto locker front and rear, but i need the smooth engagement of the LSD, my girlfriend is also going to be driving this vehicle once in a while too with her 2 children in the truck so i need it safe and predictable. i have seen my friends with auto lockers drive in the snow and ice...its pretty comical lol
  7. Haha ya... that's sometimes how it goes.... it think diff drop and front LSD is the next steps for me. I'll keep updated with what I find for the swap, with pics of course!
  8. yeah that is an awesome idea! there is one in the local yard. i am gunna check it out tomorrow i couild probably get it cheap...
  9. (I drive a 240sx with VLSD by the way so I know how well it works)
  10. i would think it would still help quite a bit... all 240sx in canada have VLSD including my own. it really doesnt take much spinning before the other wheel kicks in...its basically instant... when i lay strips of tire they are both equal length anyways, or driving in the snow, the other side kicks in pretty much right away even at slow spin speeds. not quite as instant as a clutch lsd but its still quite an improvement over open. considering trying it out. its got to be better than an open diff and it "should" be easier to steer than a clutch lsd since it kicks in a little more gradually. TONS of VLSDs up here in canada since every model of 240sx uses a VLSD R200! I believe the J30 did as well..
  11. vg33e swap, headers, exhaust, nice freeflowing intake... 4.63 gears with auto trans...im running 33x12.5s which balloon out to about 14" with the 15x10 steel rims (which weigh a ton as well) and I have better power now than I had stock. I run at around 1800 rpm going 105 down the freeway. the whole setup cost me less than 800$ all said and done. can be done very economically!
  12. heres some info i dug up from someone using a r200a clutch type lsd from calmini in the rear of his 240sx and what mods needed to be done...i assume it would be backwards to fit the 240sx VLSD into the r200a housing then...i remember reading something about the axle shaft lengths adn this seems to confirm it.. hmm http://www.ka-t.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7306&highlight=
  13. heres some posts with a couple people saying they are using c200 lsd in the front r200a of their nissan 4x4, one is def a 94 pathfinder....hmmm....the options seem to be opening up a little... http://www.nissan4wheelers.com/displayForumTopic/content/286003431025223793
  14. Hmm I wonder if this would work... 400$ for a Helical gear based LSD.. i am going to do some research on how effective they would be offroad.. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/OBX-Helical-LSD-Nissan-300ZX-240Z-240SX-R200-End-Z31-/160939826909?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2578c2dedd&vxp=mtr&_uhb=1#ht_2328wt_1037
  15. i really don't know about that one.... im up in canada but i don't know how I would tell if the front had lsd,...theres lots of pathfinders in the junk yards here but how would i identify a front lsd? would there be a sticker on it as well, like the rear diff? I am REALLY wanting to find a front LSD, so i can do the diff drop bushings at the same time... a few other forums have said they have used a c200 lsd in the r200a...one guy with an xterra on nissan4wheelers said he has a c200 lsd in his front r200a....can't find any more info than that though...hmmm im surprised not more people on here have explored front LSD options thoroughly!
  16. I just thought I read somewhere that the c200 and r200 LSD on 4x4 parts could be interchangeable so I was hoping it was the case for oem lsds too. Oh well off to search for an 87 to 89 300zx turbo lol...
  17. hey everyone... just wondering about options for a front LSD. I have a R200A up front and just finished swapping in a disc brake/limited slip rear axle in, wondering what kind of junk yard options I have to upgrade the front diff to LSD? I know the 87-89 facelifted Z31 turbo diffs will work. Would the C200 that is in 4 cyl pathys/HBs LSD be compatible? Any other vehicles with clutch type LSD with a 200 series diff that will work? I thought I read a while back that maybe Subaru used the same diff as nissan for some models... I am beating myself up for missing one just the other week at pick-a-part which was a 88 z31 turbo I could have got for probably around 75$..lol...but anyways... are there other vehicles that have a Clutch type LSD? Are there any mods that must be done to make this work? I am just stoked on finally getting in a rear LSD to complement the 33x12.5s and all the lift I have in the truck now...A front LSD would complete the deal!
  18. I don't know about 16" but for 15" the isuzu rodeo, old chevy (80s 4x4), jeep wagoneer, toyota, thats all i can think of for now
  19. Just ordered my Hi/Low beam HID kit (4300k) for my 93 Pathy, say goodbye lame factory headlights! Can't beat 64$ shipped for the whole kit!

  20. Wow that is quite the 'hax' job lol. Love it though! So why would he want a steerable center mounted diff? Is it going to be a 4 wheel steer rig?? I want to use an early Ford high pinion but cut the long side down to be a 60" axle. I'm using a h233b out back so I want it to match as closely as possible to the rear, a little wider is okay but my wheels already stick out past the fender flares about 3-4 inches with my rim and tire setup. Is there a factory axle that would fit for the long side of a high pinion Ford cut down to 59 or 60"?? Or would I need a custom made axle shaft on that side?
  21. Put throttle body back together and intake runner, vac lines and plugs....then i heated and bent a warp in my headers. They are all ready to be machined true, then just some exhaust and frame welding and the pathy is back on the road! So stoked for all the snow.
  22. installed the taller rear springs (about 3.5 inches of suspension lift in the rear) finished swapping in my new axle (LSD, disc brakes), fabricated some drop down brackets for my e-brake cable so it's sitting in the middle of its travel again and won't snap like the last one when i flex out. tomorrow is fixing my drivers side exhaust header and taking the headers in to be planed for trueness on the mating surfaces, then weld in the new magnaflow hi-flow catalytic converter and finish welding up and painting the exhaust.
  23. Awesome thanks everyone for the ideas. Once I finish up my headers and exhaust work I will start on the frame. Got a good idea what to do now
  24. yeah, i will be keeping the h233b as a side project and slowly working my way through the conversion to front axle, but i will swap in a d44 w/ 3 link to get started. truck will be staying ifs until next summer once my electronics technician school is done and i buy a house on vancouver island. then i have all the room in the world to build and build and build! lol. i can get a 3 link sas done im sure in a month of summer....the h233b will get finished though. to swap in maybe a year later down the road. I so want a driver drop patrol setup in my pathy! any patrols around here (what i really want) go for 10-15k for a early 90s model! so that's just out of the question... my vg33e with headers/intake/exhaust will be enough to get me by i thinks turbo is in the plans for the future as well, as soon as im done the turbo setup on my 91 240sx with a ka24de. going for about 350 whp 375 torque with the 240. just need oil lines and a front mount intercooler as well as piping and the 240 is going together. pathy build is happening in the summer when the 240 is done.
  25. Lots of spray on ice inhibitor on the roads here which is supposedly worse than salt.(I live in BC Canada) I think I've decided to cut out the bad and weld in all good new metal. It's already a pretty square area the rust hole/crack is in and luckily the crack ran up to one of the weeping/wash out holes so I don't even need to stop-drill it. My next question is should I use factory width steel or go thicker for the repair? I have a chunk of 1/8th inch plate around that is about the right size for the repair but I noticed the frame is only 2.5-3mm thick, the plate is definitely thicker...maybe twice as thick. I don't want to blow holes in the frame trying to heat up the 1/8th inch enough to get good penetration on the welds. Or do u think that should be ok? I could always get more steel but its always nice to work with what ya got!
