Hey there NissanNut, hows the progress going? Do you have any more pics yet? Its been a great build and has certainly inspired me to do something very similar to my truck soon. With mine I was thinking of making the brackets and winch base as one unit, bolting the winch to it, then bolting the bumper to the framework. The reason for this is that it will allow me to tuck the winch back as far as possible to the radiator and then have the hollow section of the bumper wrapping over it as per the cut-out section etc. What's your thoughts on this?

I used to have an article that told you what all the numbers (WHLYD21DJKRU88) meant, but I cant find it any more. I will keep looking.

Well I think it is the alternator, might look good but it may not be charging. Check the voltage at the battery when it is running, should be around 13.5v

Yep. I know what this is too. I think. Its the clutch mechanism in the starter motor. Mine did this once too, but only when it was cold. Even though you have a recon starter it could be that they didn't recon the clutch. This clutch is part of the mechanism that fires the whatsit onto the ring gear to crank the engine. I know what I want to say here, but cant properly put it into words sorry. Here's a couple of exploded pics of two different Pathy Starters to help you.

Yep I agree here too. And even with a 2" suspension lift and 2" body lift I can still get my 31's to rub under full articulation!
-
Its your Alternator. It is on its way out and it's not charging the battery enough so you are not getting full boost to crank the starter motor.

Think I got it how its all connected. I would like to see a side profile pic of the bracketry if possible please.

couple questions...pathy running odd

This one I can answer, I believe it is the steering stops that are squeaking. There are two of them to each wheel hub. Have a look and you will see a curved channel looking bit of steel that the steering stop slides on at full lock. These need a smear of grease on them to stop this squeaking. The left arrow is pointing to the stopper and the right arrow is pointing to the curved channel. -
Its lookin sweet as, but there are just 2 bits that have me a little bit confused. How do these tie in together? I don't quite see how the first and last pictures tie in together. Sorry if I seem to be a bit thick, im sure its all clear as mud.

You will need to check the wiring at this switch, possibly having to trace it along the wiring loom under the door sill to see where the break is, cos a break is what's causing your problem.

I made my own, press here for a post of it. and it cost bugger all. Just had a local engineering firm cut and bend the steel.

Its looking sweet NissanNut. Did you jot down any measurements of it? Love to see some detailed pictures of the bottom mounting brackets and of the winch mounted too.

Just remove the whole sway bar and be rid of it. You will get a whole lot more articulation without it, but then you have to be a bit more careful when driving on the high ways and cornering. I have removed both of mine permanently.

Have you used the search feature? There are plenty of topics on most of your queries on here.

What specifically are you looking for?

Any more updates please?

A question I have is how hard is it to re-attach the stock bumper irons, ie. the two bolts while trying to align the bottom brackets etc all at the same time? I thought of having it in 2 parts, the bottom brackets and winch tray and bumper with bumper irons. Attach the two parts then bolt them both to each other. With the D21 one, did you notice any weakness with sideways movement as I didn't see any side bracing there? ie. between the two bottom carriers. Lotsa questions sorry, im as keen as mustard to start one of these for myself now. Lastly, how did you attach your rear bumper to the chassis frame?
-
Thanks NissanNut. Have you thought how you are going to mount the front bar work yet? This is where I am most interested. When I was thinking of re-doing my one. I thought of coming off the chassis rails as per usual with an extra brace going back in to where the bumper irons were connected on to as well. What size winch are you planning on putting in there?
-
That's lookin sweet as dude. I want to modify my one now, I have decided it sits a little low, so I will be watching ypur build with interest. Can you post up a couple of pics of your rear bumper please? Or a link to them.

Yes it is the battery IMHO. I had similar symptoms when my battery was on its way out, didn't hold a charge and guages acted funny. Even affected the Temp gauge.

I should have added that this bung has not been touched in 3 years and is now just showing signs of a small amount of seepage around it. I was just curious as why all of a sudden it should start doing this, that's all.
-
Yep, its off to the wreckers you go. :coffee!:

Thanks 88, just as I suspected. Is there any reason why the filler bung should be weeping?
-
I am thinking of replacing the oil in the transfer case on my 95 Terrano. Mine is an Auto. How does one remove the filler bung with that cross member in front of it? Is it just a case of using an extension shaft on a socket drive? Has anyone done a oil change on these? Was there any issues to be aware of?
