i love makin fun of my family members that are do dense to realize ice is SLICK! i slid through a corner getting on to the freeway a few years ago, i called my mom who was going to be going through it a few minutes later. told her to SLOW DOWN to a creep or end up wrecked, since she drives a mini van that drives like a soaped up tube in the snow. about 10 minutes later, she calls me and asks me to come get her, since she put that mini van over the 25ft snow pile in the median, in the exact corner i warned her about. all i could say was, i told you so. i have never been stuck in the snow, but i do spend more time sideways than anyone i know. not around other drivers, of course.

um, rod caps? hate to sound stupid...

so i tried talking to the guy i got the engine from, now he's saying there was a slight knock when he started it up when he first bought it. i don't know where to start identifiying how it would knock. i have the pan off, and can spin the crank and hear no noise from anything

'98 R50 R.I.P......New '03 in the works
skulptr replied to arcano's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
its amazing how much that bully bar took, and didnt even distort! you could probably use that again from the winch tray up, and just make/have made new brackets for it! something that looks that good after totaling 2 rigs, is worth fixing and keeping!! -
calf tat, took it from vin diesel in XXX, and gave it a twist broken clover, if anyone has seen my recent posts, you'll understand this one completely tribal aries, nuff said was supposed to say fate, but dip @!*% put the symbols backwards, and i didnt notice til long afterward. but i translates into good life, so i guess its better than it sayin wee wee and the next one to come

heehee, a speed bump!

it is supposed to have low comp on cylinder 1

well i pulled the heads off the engine on the stand. they are packed with black ........ all over, i had to get a flat head out and dig my way into the head bolts just to be able to use them. i also found out i am missing the left lifters. but here's pictures of what i have. i will take the camera out and get better pictures once its charged. its cold as hell right now, and we're in a winter storm warning right now, i don't want to stay out there much right now. passenger side, having cylinder 1 up flush like that i hope is what TDC means, cause she didnt come with a t belt and quite a bit of other stuff. drivers side cylinder 1 closer, this is supposed to be the bad cylinder close up of valves from cylinder 1 drivers head passenger head something i noticed right off the bat once i had the heads off is the valves over cylinder 1 are a different color and have a bunch of crust built up around the (intake?) valve. i will throw out that this is the furthest i have ever been into an engine, so i am being as open as i can be!
-
minus the t belt, i just pulled the heads off a vg33 i have on a stand in less than 2 hours.
-
i will work on getting the heads to the newer motor off. i guess by what your sayin that i have my fingers crossed for the bottom of that one to be good. here's hopin i actually have a clue as to how to identify the difference, i'm tool savy, not brain savy...
-
i have gotten all my prices from rock auto, and judging by their pictures and descriptions, there's only 1 FULL set of seals, the others are exhaust/intake seal sets. what would be involved in doing the valve seals, since it seems thats the way i'm going to get forced to go. i just downloaded the fsm in the r50 section, gonna look it over.

when i put anythign but regular in mine, it runs funny, and my mileage goes down. have you cleaned youe MAF sensor? its pretty easy, involving maybe 2 screws, some rubbing alcohol, qtips, and patience. might fix that issue. mine was black, now it all shiny!

the link works, but it tells me file no longer exists well, now its workin... thanks!

maybe pictures would do more justice, just to save on confusion, and possible mistakes.

so used motors around here are looking to be 500-750, which is about 500-750 outside my budget. the newer motor had no timing belt, and its way out of alignment from tdc.. testing compression may be a bigger pita than it should. not to mention the guy i got it from left the plug holes open, so there's no tellin whats fell in. and rings i can actually get cheaper than i can a full set of stem seals, and by the sounds of it guides as well. i'm just hoping i didnt bite off more than i can chew. snow is on the forecast for tonight and the next 4 days. i was hoping to be playing in it, not suffering through it. to do valve stem seals and guides would include doing what? and doing rings would require almost complete disassembly of the entire engine. under the valve covers is pretty gunked up, something i'd expect from a 190+ engine, not a -100 engine. course the lady drove it into the ground, then sold it off for $100
-
maybe i'm backwards. do the starter on a wd21 slide onto bolts already threaded, or do the bolts slide through the starter into the engine/trans?
-
yeah the camshaft is pulled off and everything, the guy i bought it from got that far, then changed his mind and got a JY engine.
