  1. I also did the automatic transmission self test that is described in the FSM. The code came back as "Revolution sensor circuit is short-circuted or disconnected". Could this be causing my issue?
  2. Hi everyone. I have a 88 pathfinder se. I have noticed recently that when the transmission has finished shifting (45+ mph) it tends to almost jump in and out of a gear (or maybe torque converter). It always happens around the same spend and it tends to occur when I'm driving on a flat part of a road (not much load) and not accelerating. When I pushed the power switch (power light on) the engine runs at higher rpms and doesn't ever do it. It only does it when not in power mode. I have also noticed that when I am coasting down a hill around the same speed no acceleration it does something similar. You can watch the tach and see the rpms surge from around say 1800-2000 or so not alot, but the noise in change of engine speed is audible. I just was wondering if there is some sort of sensor or something that has gone bad that I might could replace to fix this problem. Thanks!
  3. Well both the inner and outer rocker panels as well as the extension pieces that go to the back wheel would all need to be replaced. Honestly I'd hire someone to do it. I have a fair bit of mechanical know how, but bodywork not so much... So maybe that's what a body shop would do, just fab up some replacements?
  4. Does anyone know of an aftermarket supplier of rocker panels for a 2 door pathfinder. I know you can still get most of them from Nissan, but I can't justify spending $1200 on factory parts right now. I've toyed with the idea of using some off a jy donor, but I'd rather start fresh. I have a feeling I would have a hard time finding any that are in decent shape around here anyways...
  5. Interesting combination, sounds good though!
  6. Soft drink or whatever else floats your boat. What's your favorite? I'll start with mine... Big Red from the grand state of Texas http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/40/dscf4090w.jpg/
  7. When we go out to the beach we usually air down to about 20 psi, as this is what all the signs recommend. It seems like you could probably do more than that, but as you said I'd be worried about breaking a bead. Better safe than sorry imo, especially being out away from everything.
  8. Scored big at the pull a part today. Factory brush guard for $20!

Good deal! Sometimes you can find treasures like that there.

  9. Does the spoiler hit your rack when you lift up the back gate? I have a spoiler ready to go on mine, but I wasn't sure if it'd work with the rack being on there.
  10. Man that's crazy! My rack looks exactly like that. Same four lights on the front and everything. Mines got two small halogens on the back as well. Besides the color and having four doors, your pathy must be a twin to mine haha. Mine even has the same brush guard.
  11. Greeting from Winston-Salem! I personally run 10w30 in mine year round, and it seems to do just fine. However in winter months I do allow the engine to run for about 30 seconds before putting it in drive.
  12. Nope you still have me beat haha. Mine was bought in 97 not brand new, so I'm approaching the 15 year mark.
  13. The 88 that I own now has been in my family since I was in kindergarten. Kinda cool to own a vehicle vehicle that you have practically grown up with your entire life. It's rolling up on 290xxx miles, and everytime I drive it's like playing a video game "getting to the next level" in miles that is ha. My Pathfinder is one vehicle I never intend to to let go of....
  14. Is it possible to change your username?
  15. Mind did that for a while, it was one of the rear control arms causing the problem. The rubber bushing had gotten wallowed out real bad allowing the back end of the car to bounce and shimmy.
  16. I appreciate the advice. I guess I should let ya'll know exactly how much weight I'm dealing with here. On the light side it is around 140lbs heaviest side is about 2200lbs. The heaviest side is only on Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc....
  17. My dad delivers newspapers every morning, and has been using his 95 pathfinder to deliver for quite some time. Well it's needing a good bit of maintenance (t-belt, rear main seal, onsets of death wobble new tires) and it's looking like this'll cost bewtween 2-2.5k. He bought the car about 3 years ago with 157k miles on it for $3000 and now it has 211k. On holidays and on some Sundays he has the back of the pathy (with the seats down) completely filled with papers (about 600 or so). Its seems to us that the continual weight that is being carried every morning is very hard on the vehicle's suspension. The bushings/springs/shocks all wear out much quicker. So we are looking at selling the pathfinder to get something that can handle the weight, but that also gets decent gas mileage. Problem is it seems that all the vehicles that get good gas mileage probably wouldn't handle the weight. So if anyone has a suggestion for a vehicle that meets what we are looking for that'd be great!
  18. I got a 1000 watt worklight (2 500w lamps) stand from Home Depot this Christmas. Very nice setup, and they put out a good amount of heat, especially when they are aimed at or near you. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-202066789/h_d2/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=10051&catalogId=10053 They are cheap, but I'm pretty impressed with the quality so far. Built better than the ones I saw for sale at Lowe's
  19. My fuel gauge also likes taking its time to give the correct reading.
  20. My heater has only been mildly warm here recently and I believe my heater core needs to be flushed. The input heater hose gets very hot, the output not nearly as much. Do you have to drain all the coolant to take the hoses loose without getting antifreeze everywhere?
  21. Get a really really strong magnet and use it to "magnetize" something that'll fit in there. The magnetism of whatever object you "magnetize" won't be terribly strong, but it may be good enough to pick up a screw. If that doesn't work, you might try grinding the magnet end on the telescopic one you got down a little so it'll fit. Just a couple of thoughts, best of luck to ya.
  22. Well the Haynes was given to me free. Far as I know you can't get an 88 fsm for free I agree though fsms are much more detailed when it comes to specs, tolerances, and procedures.
  23. I know Haynes and the like get a bad rap, but I have to say I have been very impressed with the Haynes manual for my pathfinder. I think its an older version though, because it seems alot thicker than the ones they sell at the parts stores now.
  24. Failing voltage regulator inside the alternator? What voltage is it putting out?
