  1. Sounds like you answered your own question. Try some belt conditioner?
  2. That's exactly what I was going to say! Mine work fine, but when my BOSE acts up and needs a decent whack to play a CD they seem to only light up half of them. Thus, a good whack is all it ever takes to get them to turn on again And they say brute force gets you nowhere!
  3. Very very occasionally mine does that doo but only on very cold days, particularly if it wass very warm the day before. A constant sputtering however would suggest a bad valve that can't hold compression but it doesn't sound like that's the issue w/ yours.
  4. Mine do the same things from time to time but, knock on wood, have been good about it lately. The cold seems to have an effect on them working at startup
  5. I feel less educated after watching that. The things inbred rednecks will do. And they wonder why they're stereotyped to hell. What WOULD have been funnier would have been if a shard of splintered wood, covered in gas, on fire, came smashing through the windshield and decapitated one of those retards. The would would have still gone, I assure you These are the assholes we support as taxpayers to be in the hospital free of charge because they don't have health insurance.
  6. The Sentra had 2 screws per valve, I'm assuming the VQ's the same?
  7. Upper Intake manifold, and all associated components for it's removal. If it's anything like my Sentra, pop it open and VIOLA, there's the valves, all 6 of 'em.
  8. That's a load of crap. It's EVERY VQ on the market...01's-04 in particular, though I've read that the issue was remedies for the 04's. Max's run the risk as I'm sure Alty's and Z's do. Like I told Train, KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR OIL LEVEL! Of course the dealership is going to say that. Try calling this number to inquire about it...Nissan Cosumer Affairs (800) 647-7261.
  9. Mine's going onto the shop tomorrow to be torn down to see why it's burning so much oil. I knew there was a good reason I bought an extended warranty. If I said I weren't a little nervous about what they find I'd be lying
  10. Have you noticed any oil consumption, Train? The PCV valve is another issue that's a little harder to diagnose...
  11. *Update* Anyone who owns a VQ powered Pathy, please go out and check your oil level! Isn't it all too ironic that the day I find this bulletin information I find that MY truck itself is down on oil. After posting to the other thread I checked my level, and it was just barely above the low mark. The Pathy hasn't been driven in two days, so I drove it for 5 mins. to warm it up and checked again...same thing, just above the low level. I change my own oil w/ 10W-30, every 3K miles, religously. I DID, however, just put about 2K all highway miles on it over the holidays, but the oil was changed right before I left. It's gonna be an arduous journey guys... This is a known issue, everyone please go out and check! I don't want to see someone's Pathy's sitting on the side of the trail w/ an engine that's run dry.
  12. True, but brass or not, I'm sure that would be enough to scour the hell out of the cylinder walls. When it happened in my Sentra, I lost my #3 cylinder in a tunnel. The spark plug had been hit with the screw itself and the electrode was bent all the way down. Running on 3 cylinders to get the hell out of that tunnel was the most fun I've had in a 4 cylinder! And thus is the importance of regularly checking and changing oil
  13. see my previously edited post ^^ The Altima has the same engine as the SE-R Sentra's.
  14. Great, now mayhem is sure to follow I think it's important to add that this is a farily sporadic occurence for the VQ. It's NOT a common problem, though if your Pathy falls victim to it the damage is irreversible. It simply amazes me that the VQ can have this same issue as the QR25DE I had in my Sentra. And by same, I mean exactly! I blew an engine due to this very same problem which was (thankfully) replaced by Nissan under powertrain warranty (all 118 miles of it that was left at the time) The most disturbing part about it was that upon checking the screws myself in my replacement engine (which subsequently was an '05 in my '02 and, according to Nissan, had the problem "remedied") I found them to be loose again, with no loctite at all. I did it myself, but I'd never try it on a VQ.
  15. BTW, I too have hit 70K miles. I'm changing the oil this afternoon and I'm going to monitor from here on out.
  16. Not easy at all. If it's the butterfly screws/power valve screws you're refferring to, they're a b!tch to get to! I had to check them on my Sentra and it involved removing the entire upper intake manifold. And upon reaching them, if you happen to drop one into the intake, well, you get the picture. The procedure involving the valve cover/PCV valve I'm not sure about. I've heard it's pretty involved. I'm sure there's a DIY procedure floating around the web somewhere. I'll see what I can find.
  17. Yeah, as well as notoriously bad o2 sensors that seem to plague 01's in particular. But that in itself may be due to the fact that they're just older. I would register w/ Edmunds.com and check the "Inside Line" section there (owner forums) as well as nissanhelp.com. Those are excellent resources. No change required! Unless it breaks This is an extremely frightening issue w/ all VQ powered Pathy's (in particular 01's-03's it seems) that must be monitored! If you're buying a very used 2nd gen. VQ powered pathy and there's an option for an extended warranty of any sort, I would pony up and spend the little bit of $$ to take it. Hope this helps!
  18. Either is an excellent choice IMO. But, seeing as I've had horrible luck with first model year productions/engine modifications, I'd go with the 02, seeing as the VQ had been around for a while already and a lot of the SES complaints had been cleared for that model year. However, 02's are still notoriously bad for having tinker toy o2 sensors! As said earlier though, either is a great choice and will treat you very well. I've dumped almost 30K miles on my 02 in the year I've had it and it still feels just as solid as ever...now at almost 75K miles. Pics when you buy!
  19. And maybe the Hartford Whalers will come back to CT. (my old team :cool2: )
  20. Happy New Year everyone! Be safe and well!!
