  1. It doesn't sound much different at all because there's still such a huge honking muffler attatched, just a little deeper that's all.
  2. It was a real shame it happened to be MY window, and not the rear...that would have saved me a lot of vary small shards of glass being in places that aren't too comfy...especially for what turned out to be another 6.5 hour ride the rest of the way! On a good note though, I would guess a front door window is a little cheaper than a rear one!
  3. Was it a very warm day after a relatively cool night? Were there storms in the vicinity (low pressure system)? My guess to that happening would be a difference in pressure between the outside and inside of the car.
  4. That's the most likely culprit...with the wheeling I do it's entirely possible there was something foreign in the track somewhere and it finally gave out. That being said, make sure your window tracks are kept clean!!
  5. Last Friday is was on the interstate traveling at about 65 mph, when all of a sudden, my (drivers side) window blew up, all over me. Aside from being involved in an accident, it has to have been the scariest thing I've ever experienced in my life. My wife and I were on our way up to Connecticut when this happened, so needless to say it made for an interesting last 300 miles of the trip. The window also blew IN, and not out at all. I was in the left hand lane when it happened, nobody had passed me and there was nobody on the side of the road which eliminates the possibility of something being thrown up at me, or tossed at me from the side of the road. The A/C had been running for a good 3 hours straight, and the windows were closed and no doors had been opened during that time either. I've heard that the edges of tempered glass are the weakest, thus if there were to be any sort of rock/pebble in the track of the window, when it was closed it had the possibility of putting it under a lot of stress. In addition, I've considered the possibility that the limiter for the auto-up window may be bad which would put it under a lot of stress when closed all the way up. I've since replaced the glass and no longer use the auto-up feature, instead switch it up on my own and not all the way up either. I hope this never happens to anyone else, ever! The sound alone was aout enough to make me loose my cookies (deafening) and luckily, in the ridiculous Delaware traffic we were in at the time I never lost control of the truck. Any thoughts/ideas??
  6. Yes, you need to make sure it's not pointing up into the underside of the truck (that's a fire hazard) or even directly at the exle or any components. If it's not any sort of angled, just go at it and make sure it is...better to be far than sorry.
  7. Yeah I remember when you posted about that noise you were getting. That's about what I thought...
  8. Something I just thought of... What happens if, upon opening the thing up and looking inside, you find screws missing? Are you immediately SOL? Though I'm anxious to do mine, I'm terrified to open the thing up and find this. Though the truck runs just fine, doesn't exhibit any oddities and doesn't burn oil, I guess you never know till you do it... But what to do if you find this?
  9. Yep, heard about that one this morning.
  10. GREAT write-up...I have a feeling as time goes by and more and more VQ owners start googling "butterfly screws" or something along those lines, we're going to see more and more hits on this great info. Thanks man
  11. Yes, the weld in the pipe right before it got to the muffler in front of the rear axle had completely split, so the rear part of the exhaust (from there back) was just dangling by the hangers, so I cut it off at that point. Now my exhaust ends right AFTER the muffler, before the axle. I made the cut with the sawz-all angled downward as well so as to guide hot exhaust gasses away from the underside of the truck...that's important to remember. I have no intentions of putting anouther one on there that exits out the back because I'm sure I'll catch it on a ledge on the next wheeling trip I go on!
  12. Same thing happened to my 02's while in the mountains and I ended up saw-zalling it off right before where it goes over the axle...that was about 7 months ago and I have no plans of putting another back on again. The exhausts on R50's are pathetic!
  13. Chinese!!!! They must be covered in lead paint, too!!
  14. You're welcome. Just remember, the tighter it's on there the better...my method certainly isn't the prettiest but it's incredibly sturdy and the mounting method doesn't interfere with anything I throw into the basket.
  15. It's a Con Ferr rack which has since gone out of business. They were out of Burbank, CA. Their products are now sold under a new name using the same design, the Defender series. The original mounting hardware I had for it required me to REMOVE the SE racks completely and slide the basket into the stock gutters on the left and right hand sides of the roof. I wanted to keep the SE rack so I got 6 stainless U-Bolts with hardened lock washers, washers and nuts and attatched the basket to my 2 stock crossbars; 3 U Bolts on the front one, 3 on the back. Otherwise, there are no factory type/mainstream MFG'ed brackets to use with these SE racks. Just make some thing up, anythings possible It's been about 3 months now and thins thing's tough as nails and has NEVER budged one bit.
  16. I would JB weld that thing and call it a day. Contacting the dealership will be more of an effort than it's worth. I had both front tubes replaced because they were both rotted out and leaking, but I'd just bought the truck from Carmax and they were replaced under warranty. Like I said, JB Weld's your friend
  17. Toyota? Nissan service advisors are bad enough, why would I call some Bozoe at A Yota dealership?? I heard about this last night...a few questions: 1.) What about 96's? 2.) Why does this go to 01? I would have thought it would be to 1999.5, apparently not. Maybe EARLY 01's, with the 3.3? I thought all 01's came w/ the VQ?
  18. Ha ha, I've got enough issues to worry about with my power valve screws falling out (on the 3.5) and being sucked into the compression chamber
  19. Sorry, those things belong in the trash can, right next to this thing:
  20. Define "roof rack". Are you looking for a stock rack? If so, SE/LE type? Or is it crossbars you're looking for? If you're looking for one like mine, a 2002-2004 type like this: then PM 97vapathy (Paul), he's selling a Loadwarrior with extension in great condition, 4 KC daylighters with wiring and mounts for the Loadwarrior AND his 2003 roof rack (same one as mine)
  21. Interesting, works fine for me, how's THAT for censorship.
  22. The spoiler/deflector deflects air downward so in essence it keeps rear spray while driving in the rain collecting on the rear window to a minimum. I'm STILL trying to get my hands on one... That said, I would venture to say it also increases drag to a point...
  23. My guess? Some local from Dover that had beef with a student. I've driven through that city plenty of times, more than enough times to realilze that it's a place I'd never want to live, or even be caught outside after sunset in. Like many other Universities in this country, the campus itself is very nice, would appear to be relatively safe with decent security and has an honest, hard working decent student body. Unfortunately outside the confines of their property walls it all goes to hell in a handbasket. Case and point, MY school I attend; GREAT campus, nice student body, clean, safe (for the most part) and a stonesthrow away from the area of downtown Norfolk I like to call "frog hollow", one of the nastiest areas in the city. LINK This happened a little while ago, again, pay close attention to the map on that page. That area of Killam Ave. is where the sidewalk ends, so to speak.
