Congrats. That X is one "hot lookin rig" I am a bit jealous. Lookin at those pics man I guess your visibility out the rear is not so good? Because man, that 35" tire makes that whole X look small!!! Have fun with it you lucky dog.

That is kinda what I figured. The terrain out here is almost never flat and there is almost always a decent headwind so I figured it would hardly never go into 4-cyl. mode.

Extreme, I will say that the 5.3 with teh cylinder shuttoff do-hickey does save gas. but just a 5.3 by itself.. not too sure about it. yet another of my company trucks is a 2003 with the 5.3 and it is averaging 12.0. I am not trying to argue just stating facts from my spreadsheets. I also need to add that atleast 85% of those miles are highway also. I am curious about the cylinder shutt-off technology I know at cruising speeds it is supposed to shut-down some cylinders until you push on the gas and need them right? My question is what about when you are going 75-80 is that considered cruising speed? Anybody done research or know what it is all about.?

You are right OBx you can still get them with the plastic. And I also have seen advertisments for the new Honda element and the newer models shown do not have all that crappy plastic. So I stand corrected. And I never said I did not like the chevy avalanch itself. I think it is a good all-around truck. My worktruck is a 04 Chevy 2500 HD with the 6.0 L and yes it does have a bunch of power but do not be fooled about the gas mileage. I keep spreadsheets at work for my work trucks and it is getting 12.5 average highway. granted it has weight in it alot of the time (varies between 50lbs and 4000lbs :o but even unloaded it gets 14-15 if you stuck around 55 (which you can not do around here or you will get run-over). People cannot believe the sticker or the advertisements stating that vehicles get this good gas mileage b/c they still rate these vehicles according to standards way back when the speed limit was 55. Not only that but they consider the gas mileage under ideal conditions like flat terrain no wind resistence and the test drivers have light feet on the pedal I guarentee you. This day and age you could not sell a truck stating that it gets 10mpg city and 12-14 mpg highway.. -thnkboutit- Do not get me wrong I love my Chevy for the power etc but dam it is so dam expensive.

Ok I thought I was gonna have to type and run but plans fell through so I did a little more research and geez I was kinda dumb on my search I did not even type in the code so I got all kinds of info I did not need then it dawned on me to type in the code and waalaaa.( ) it turns out to be something to do with the evap system itself. I guess I should check some kinda canister for charcoal?? then replace it and blow out the lines>> anybody doen this before so they can tell me what and where to look??

Ok I finnally got around to taking my truck to AZ and finding out what code cause my SES light to come on. It turned out to be the P1447 which is evap purge flow. I have no idea what this means. Is it some kinda sensor? Help is appreciated thanks.

Plastic "bumpe"rs is one thing that X-terra's have and will probably never get rid of. have you seen a honda element? from the rockers up it has plastic,(some models) quarter panels are half plastic. And I do believe that Chevy took away the plastic on the avalanch for more than just one reason.

Dude? I would totally be in the poor-house if I had to drive my pathy. I give you props for "doin what ya gotta do"
-
gee...you think??? Yeah I would move except we just signed a lease. I had a company vehicle with fuel paid for but due to rising petroleum prices I got screwed and they took my truck and company card away. I am looking for another job but have not found anything yet. Cost of living is a bit cheaper where I am at now but it is not worth the drive, hours spent driving, wear & tear on vehicle and ofcrouse gas $$. But what do you do? I have a 1 year old daughter now so I can not just quit like I would have in high school.

That sounds pretty good but... if you look at the price increase of deisel over the past couple of years it has skyrocketed since all these guys now a days are like "I want teh biggest truck with the biggest deisel motor I can get. So oil company's have seen this trend and are like OK let's up the price of deisel because if you can afford a big deisel truck then put big tires on it so your only getting like 12 mpg city then hell yeah. My point is deisel is already higher than gasoline if the market is flooded with more deisel vehicles small or not then the price is going to continue to go up in my opinion. Then again maybe I am wrong. I like deisels my self but do not know if I will be able to afford to drive one. It sucks now having to drive and from work everyday 120 miles with a 4-cyl honda accord. :gossip:

I see your point. They definetely do not look like anything else on the road today. And they are supposed to be really good off-road (it depends on what you consider off-road in my opinion) just the fact that they have locking diff is a huge + but if I had the money I would probably buy new X-terra

LOL That's awesome

I went back on to ebay and yes it is printed on vinyl. So it should last I think.

You could be right Vengeful, maybe I am extremely lucky. At least with all this information now I can research a little better into what I decide to get next. I was thinking of upgrading the stereo system in the pathy later down the road. By upgrade I mean better HU and maybe some better tweets. Can I just hook up some infinity tweeters where the stock ones are now using the same wires? I was going to keep true to the Pioneer HU but maybe not now who knows. Then again why change something that works?? p.s. I got 300 posts yay I feel special... -thnkboutit-

Dam you know I havent even thought about those (probably because they are so damed ugly). I can understand why Honda might keep doing it though. In a couple of years when they fade & crack then people will want to replace them.. well you will not find any in a junk yard so you have to go to the stealership so you can get bent over. just my opinion
-
Dowser while you are in there are you going to change the thermostat? I would so that if it were to go out you would not have to go through all that crap again. I also would recomend changed maybe changing the coolant bypass hose. I did not since mine seemed fine but I might regret that in the long run.

I just had this same kinda problem with one of my work trucks. The lights stereo everything worked but it wouldnot start or turn over sometimes I would get a click. I did not think it was the battery because like three weeks before I had autozone check the battery and they said it was a good battery. So first I tried jumping the truck off to no evail. I was stumped. I took the battery out of one of my other work trucks and she cranked right up. In my case it turns out the battery had a dead-cell in it So I guess it was like haveing a short in the system. I would try using another battery before anything else as it is an easy test and fix. good luck let us know how it goes once you get back.

Oh and thanks for the link, lunartic that is useful information.

Thanks guys I will be doing the wires, plugs, cap and rotor soon I figured I should have done all of it when I did my t-belt but I had already spent too-much $$ so I cheaped out and only did the plugs. I just was not sure if teh truck had to be at TDC or something before I took out the rotor. I have never messed with a distributor before so I have no idea what to expect. I guess that is why I bought a Haynes manual.. -thnkboutit-

Gee max way to put-down the cone filter considering you sold me mine!! just kidding your probably right though. And I avoid water that goes up to the bumper for fear of sucking in water. Atleast until I can get a snorkel..in like 15 years or so at the rate I am going.
-
Thank god my pathy did not have that Bose crap. I just replaced the HU and all four speakers with Pioneer and it sounds great even with the windows down. That is one way I rank a good stereo.
-
Dam I guess us pioneer folk have been out-numbered. Navy. alot of good info has been introduced for you so you have to make the decision. I guess I am just one of the lucky ones who has bought alot of pioneer equipment (car and house audio) and never had one single problem. hell some of the stuff is 10 years old and still sounding brand new. :contract:
-
If you lifted your truck then I "assume" you are going to take it off-road correct? I just bought a K&N and so far I notice a tad more throttle response and I believe maybe 1 mpg better mileage. I kept my stock airbox so when i finnally get her off-road again I will switch it out with my K&N because apparently the k&n does let more stuff through. So I guess it depends what kind of driving you are going to be doing more of. Right now my rig is a baby-taxi/pavement pounder so I run the K&N around town but hope to be going camping this weekend with some not-so-hardcore wheelin (no skid plate protection or even splash guard at all underneath ) but I will swith out the intake to the stock airbox.

Can not wait to see what that plastic looks like in a few years. Hell it would not last 5 years her in Colorado where the sun is pretty brutal. I noticed the new chevy avalanches do not have all that plastic on them anymore and i think it is for the same reason...the sun> will ba -bounce- ke it and make it brittle.

Man you have had a rough week dude sorry to hear about teh herniated disk adn pinched nerve. My wife is having all kinds of back problems due to a herniated disk except in her case the herniated disk is portruding inward which is really really bad.. We have seen multiple doctors and tried multiple solutions like steroid shots epidurals next step is accupressure and if that does not work then probably surgery. Not cool.
