Dam sorry to hear about your pathy. First thing is to find out what went wrong for sure. If the water pump did sieze (does not seem likely if it was just replaced but stranger things have happened) and the t-belt did break or fail then I would be on the phone with the mechanic who did the job. Hopefully you kept the reciept if so I know you are in Hawaii but still bad buisness is bad buisness they should honor their work and either refund some $$ or pay for the repairs but that is in a perfect world not too likely to happen. I think if the timing belt did break then it is more than likely you have some valve damage but you never know. Good idea getting a compression test that is going to tell you what you have to get done first. Good luck and keep us updated.

Ok I got this buddy who might be desperate to get rid of his 94 pathy. As he is moving to Cali soon. I am going to wait until the last minute if it lasts that long and offer him like 1100 bucks for it. I hear (I have not had a chance to talk to him personally yet) that he wants 2000 for it. It has 180k on it and it looks good from what I can remember from the last time I saw it. Anyway my question is: he says it has leaky manifolds and the mechanic quoted him 800 bucks to fix it. How hard would it be to do myself?? I have done the t-belt,water pump,t-stat-seals etc on my R50 so I am not a "complete" idiot when it comes to working on these lovely beasts. Any info is much appreciated. I sure hope this pans out so I will finally have a pure wheeling rig!!!!

Well I will definitely go with a high flow cat. Colorado is kinda nazi about emissions out here.
-
Thanks for the input!! If and when I do it then I will be changing the cat and the pipe to 2.5" and getting a flowmaster 50 series. It might be put on hold now as I think I am going to be buying a boat possibly tommorrow.
-
Well to be honest since I have bought my pathfinder I have fallen in love with it and it's capabillities so much that even with it's horrible gas mileage I will never sell it. Hell I should soon be in the market for a WD21!!!

Yeah unfortunately I have to have a cat. I will look into the high flow cat and work from there. thanks

Ok I keep reeding people's post on how best way to get more power is intake and exhaust. I have done minor mods to the intake (K&N) and a homemade box for it. Next is exhaust sometime in the future my question is this: I looked under my pathy and the exhaust system looks to be in pretty good shape as in not rusting through anywhere, I shook on all the pipes and everything seems sturdy. So I am not sure whether it is worth it to put aftermarket exhaust on it. I was thinking about 2.5" pipe and a flowmaster 50 series but I can not afford to put headers on it right now.Is it even worth it to replace the pipe and muffler without installing headers since my stock exhaust is still in good working order? I will probably not do it right away anyway but I would like to get some opinions. Thanks.

I would say if your going to be hitting some serious water and not so much rocks fist off you might want a snorkel.. It just seems like you are really worried about that water. Personally I am not doing any really heavy duty wheeling or river crossing until I get some skids. -
Headers!!! and new exhaust. My manifold has not shown any sign of being fubar YET. But when it does I hopefully will be able to use it as an excuse for headers and new exhaust too!!! ((pipe dream)) because I know I will be broke when it happens.

That does look good how much if you dont mind telling.

I do not mean to thread jack but I am also concerned what the flashing OD lighty means. I have not had any problems yet with the tranny(it is an auto by the way) but like once a month or so when I start my pathy the OD light will flash.. but only like 5-10 times.

I say bang on the starter first with a hammer. Then if that does not work check the battery with a ohm meter you might have a dead or weak cell. Same sort of thing happened in one of my work trucks about two weeks ago, everything seemed fine lights bright dash lights radio everything but it would not tturn over it turned out to be a dead cell in the battery. good luck.

Well there you have it, I still am not totally conviced but hey that is why I am not a mechanic. if you dont have enough oil kablouey happens also......
-
Ok vengeful I will be checking it out this weekend.
-
Tmorgan are you sure you need to empty some out? I mean just because it has a good size dent in it does not mean it is going to need less oil to lubricate it... it is just that the dipstick is sitting somewhere close to the dent.. I am kinda confused here does anybody else know what I am saying??? I mean the capacity of oil needed for the engine to be properly lubricated has not changed. BTW how is the lift coming???

I assume it is a automatic tranny. So I would say first do what 88 says and shake some things up underneath like the suspension parts and the driveshaft. You are definetely not going to ever get much "snap" going uphill or under load. Acutally maybe a little bit but it will be the tranny downshifting!! If you can not find anything underneath then I change the fluid.(should probably do it anyway since it is your new vehicle). A 98 with 74000 miles on it should not have a bad tranny yet unless it was treated badly. IMO *corrected the intent* B

Just to update: I have not had a chance to check the evap canister or the hoses. But my wife put gas in the truck the other day and yesterday I noticed that the SES light was not on anymore. So as 88path has said it looks like it might have been as simple as the gas cap not being tight enough. I am keeping my fingers crossed for teh next couple of days. I am still going to check out the evap system when I have some free time.

Just hoping for an update Dowser....I know you said you did not have the cash for teh t-stat but it is really cheap. If you havent already taken off the timing belt cover top & bottom make sure you make a template to remember where each screw goes because they are different sizes. I made the mistake of just taking them off and throwing them in my screw bucket.... so when I put them in it left a gap in the cover so I spent some wasted time figuring out where each one went.

Well....Welcome to NPORA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And that "Tornado" do-hickey..yeah it is a bunch of crap. Seen it on a segment with teh local news "Fame or Shame" and it got a whopping SHAME. In one minivan it hurt the MPG's.They tested some other products and come to the conclusion that the best way to save gas and get better mpg's is to lighten up your foot. go figure.

Hey 98silver once you blow out the lines will you let me know if it is a PITA? just curious because I am getting an error code 1447 something in the evap system so I am going to start with checking the canister and blowing the lines but have never done it before so any help from someone who has would be awesome.
-
Sweet thanks for the links. I am not sure what type I have the step cycle or the other one. Can not do much to find out as I am at work. Anyway I think first I am going to take down the canister and check for charcoal leakage, then I might blow out the lines. I am not sure of this procedure but I gotta start somewhere. Gonna have to find some compressed air too :secret: I sure seemed like there were alot of valves and sensors. what a PITA I know this is gonna turn out to be I can alraedy tell it is going to be the last sensor/valve I check or replace.
