  1. Years old in fact steevo... You'd never see it on the track either. 2wd, the diff is for show. At least I have never seen a picture of it with the front hooked up. I kinda think that it would overheat too. We know how hot our Pathies can get ay steevo. by the way, do you still have yours?
  2. Nearly there. Keep your heads and inlet minifold from your old engine. When you get the later model engine, remove the heads and inlet manifold (on sell them perhaps and make some money back??) so you can put you old ones on. I am assuming that the old manifold and heads are used to make the larger capacity engine compliant to the wd21 pathy exhaust and computer management. P.S. You have to remove the inlet manifold to get the heads off anyway. And do all of this work BRFORE you put the engine in. You will be suprised at how easy a job it is.
  3. I'll have to agree with you too k9. Now please excuse me while I......... OOPS! Too late
  4. I thought he was calling us homosexual cross dressers.
  5. It's your call. It is a risk I would not take just personaly. As k9 eluded to earlier, if thats gone.... what else is about to go? If you are going to pull the donk down with a view to repairing it then may I suggest that you do a complete recondition. That way you will have a brand new motor that will well outlast the car. You will not find yourself doing the same thing a couple of weeks later either. You can even oversize the bore and throw in a decent cam to get those extra ponies that a Nissan V6 lacks. To do the work yourself (au prices) will set you back about $1400. Thats new everything. From decking the heads to putting in your brand new oversized flat top pistons. Equate that with time off the road too. At least a couple of weeks.... The oil loss you talked of? The rod hasn't tried to exit the block has it? Ooops! I think I missed read your reply. You will learn how to replace you engine when you take your buggered one out. It isn't a hard job to do and you will save heaps. I was about 15 when I started working on cars. In those days I used alot of masking tape and ink. I used to lable everything I removed, all wires, leads and hoses, EVERYTHING. That way I knew where things went when I replaced things. That is the biggest lesson when working on a car IMO. Do that and you can never get it wrong. Sometimes I wonder why today, I didn't keep that habit up. -thnkboutit-
  6. You have to take the head/s off in order to get the compressed rings in. You can't do it from underneath. It is a big job to do it properly and not one for a beginner in mechanics. Salvage what you can. heads, timing cover etc. then throw the motor out! It will be cheaper and easier to put another one in.
  7. The whole front end and drivers door stick out like a sore thumb. Once the gearbox is done I will have it blending in in no time.
  8. Yes I would. I'd fix it good and proper.lol Manual hubs on each end of a live axle...
  9. I don't want to offend anyone... so I will anyway. Instead of pissfarting around like you are doing just check the bloody thing properly. It isn't rocket science! Engage 4wd in your driveway or anywhere else you please. (Please, if you are engaging 4wd on a hard traction surface ie. concrete or bitumen, do not try to turn the steering wheel). After driving forward and reverse (in a strat line) enought times (convincing yourself that if it was going to ever engage 4wd, it would have done so by now) stop the car with the engine still running, DO NOT DISENGAGE 4WD, engage the hand brake so the car can not move, elight the vehicle and retreive a jack. Now that you have the jack in hand, place it under the front of your still running Pathfinder. There is a crossmember under there so place it in the centre and jack away untill both of the front wheels are off of the ground. Now try turning the drivers wheel be hand. Now run around to the passenger side and do the same thing. Now remove your car from the jack, disengage 4wd and turn the motor off. Post up your results on this site for further discussion. Please!
  10. The polished alloy bar looked real good polished. It just took too much time and effort to polish it. Besides that, most of the time it would look good only for a couple of days before it was covered in sh!t again.
  11. I find it an awful thought that when you really need 4wd that you can't engage it. It defeats its own purpose! Manual hubs will never leave you stranded like that.
  12. Because of this..... My Pathy now has this.... A brand new ARB winch bar. The Pathy pics are all in the garage because of this.... That is the gearbox with two large cracks in it. Credit where credit is due though.. The gearbox was on its way out for about 3 or 4 months amd sounded like a pot full of nuts and bolts being shaken. So it was not suprising that some of what was making all that noise wanted to exit the box with a huge bang! Strange though that she still drove in all gears with that type of damage. But because of this. I am putting this in.... It is a getrag... The strongest 5 speed that holden have. No need for a breather either. The box is fully sealed (just the way the're made) and will operate under water like a sub. I will be picking up my divorced/remote transfercase either to ight or tomorrow. I will post up a pick of that when I get it. The Nissan gear box/transfercase is out (removed them last night). I have to bolt up the getrag and fab up a new crossmember for it before I can fit the divorced transfer case and its new fabbed crossmember. All in all, at the end of the day, I should have a bullet proof drivetrain.
  13. Why do you want to lift the suspension? Can't you lift the body instead? Calmini make a kit. Spenser Lowe Racing (sp) also make a kit. There is another mod too but I can't remember what ther are called.. If your car is right hand drive then no-one makes a kit. Try using the search button (as poor as it is) for suspension lift info.
  14. Put a 2 or 3" body lift in and run 32's. A BL is cheaper than a suspension lift and you will still be able to maintain correct steering component angles. Thus, you will not break things so easily.
  15. I just got a little bit of vomit in the back of my throat then.
  16. After speaking to many idiots at Optus I finally got on to a person that had a clue. Seems the problem is our cordless phone? It is interfering with the line signal somehow?? It has a filter on it but apparently it needs another one. The tech checked the line speed from his comfy cubical and found that all was well. So the fix is easy enough, and no pill for Steve just yet. The speed is nowhere near that of cable but at least I am not falling asleep waiting anymore.
  17. It has been awhile yet again. As you know, the hugs and kisses and myself have bought a new house. I gotta say, I LOVE THIS HOUSE! Just ask sw what the other one was like. Small sh*t hole. With all of the packing, unpacking, buying new furnature to suit the new house and work done at the new place before we moved in... I have not had time to scratch myself. Coupled with, that it took another 2.5 weeks for the internet to be ready, though I don't know why, goes somewhat to explaining my being absent. I will post pics soon enough... However, posting pics at this point in time for me will be very time consuming. I have struck a problem with our new ADSL broardband internet connection. IT'S TOO BLOODY SLOW! I am thinking that it is not that much quicker than dial up. We had cable for 7 years in the old place but it is not available here in the new suburb. Well, it is but not with my prefered carrier.. Optus. We have our LAN line with them as well as all of our mobile phones (4). Our home grown carrier is Telstra and I have vowed never to use them again for as long as I live. They are a pack of bastards! Long story short, Telstra has cable here. It has been about ten years since I made that vow and until now I have not given them a second thought. I will call Optus tomorrow and ask them to quote a price on ADSL2. After I get the price I am going to demand I get it at the same price we are paying for this sh*t ADSL. If they don't come to the party... Do you guys and girls think I sould bite the bullet and swap over to Telstra? It will be a bitter pill for me to swallow but I WILL if if the general consensus suggests I should. After all, they do have what I need.... BASTARDS!
  18. Shovel, hand winch, two 9mtr snatch straps, tow strap, saw, 1 x 20 mtr chain, 1 x 3mtr chain, exhaust jack and stock jack, two 10 mtr ropes, tree trunk protector, snatch block, "D" shackles (5), bow shackles (3), two pair of leather work gloves (riggers), insulation tape, duct tape, cable ties, rechargable spot light, cb radio and plenty of tools to name the main things. Oh, I amost forgot..... A bottle of whisky, just in case it is a cold night. I used to also carry a spare tie rod and idler arm too. Thank christ those days are over. sssh
  19. Put a relay in after you fix or get a new switch and you will not suffer from this problem anymore.
  20. They are geared low to compensate for their under powered engines. To gett better MPG up size your tyres and change your diff ratios to 4.3:1. That should work.
  21. Did I mention the size of the new garage at all? No? Anyone curious? Well it is 9w x 8d x 3.3h. (mtr) So for you lot on the other side of the pond that's 30w x 26d x 10h. (ft) It is solid brick and also has a small pot belly stove in it. It should be good to drink around in the winter months. sssh I'm just wondering if I'll have enough space to work in.
  22. When you say......... you did everthing together..... everything?
  23. You could try a Navara tank and see if that'll fit. BUT you may as well have it dedicated to gas. At least that way it is tuned 100% for it. Duel fuel is a is a compromise tune at best, and given that the Pathies are fairly gutless, you shouldn't compromise it anymore than necessary. I am fairly sure that you can get cylinders to fit in where your tank was. Just get a bigger tank or get them to link two tanks together (like the dedicated LPG Fords) and screw the petrol for good. That's unless of course your in QLD and don't pay a tax on a tax for fuel like the rest of us do in OZ. I have seen a Pathy with an LPG tank in the back. Not only did it look repulsive, there was no space for anything else. So what ever you do, have it installed under the floor. A body lift will also aid with tank size.
