I might be picking up a 93 hardbody for about 2k to replace my current work beater. It has 250,xxx km's on it, needs a timing belt, possibly a clutch in a little while (its still the originial) and shocks. The guys thats selling it is from my shop, and he's the original owner so he knows anythig thats wrong with it.

Its the 4 banger and I dont know much about those, if anyone has any thing I should ask him or look into, any advice would be great!

Yea, I'm gonna try and talk him down, but you have to remember thats 2000 CAD, not USD, and here in BC car prices are very inflated. Its in pretty good shape and he is the original owner, plus I work with him, so its not like he's going to screw me. but yea 250,xx km is a little high. On the other hand, if those 4 cyl's are anything like our v6's its still got a lot of life left in it.

anyone know any good resources for HB info? I can't find anything even remotly the caliber of this site on google.

Hmm I can't remember when did they switch from the Z24 to the KA24? I'm assuming that it must have been before 93 cause AFAIK the Z24's have timing chains. If it does have the KA there are a lot of ricer parts for that engine that will probably make it even more powerfull than the VG30. :cool2:

I was gonna ask about the timing "belt" as well... I was assuming it would still be the 'ol BULLETPROOF 2.4 l that was in my 240SX...

Personally, I say:

Sexy as a breadbox, durable as a rock, fragile as a chunk of lead, reliable as a hammer. IE, the PERFECT work beater!

Unless, of course, you like working on your vehicles a lot... Then get an S10/Ranger instead.

And if he maintained it and took reasonable good care, it's got a LOT of life in it, in which case it's really pretty dammed cheap when you look at your long term cost per mile!

BTW, I have just over 200K MILES on the original clutch in my V6 pathy.... If not abused, they are remarkably durable!

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Did you just say "power" and "KA24" in the same sentence on purpose? I think you've overestimated the aftermarket's capabilities to produce quality, effective performance parts.

And yes, the 4-cylinders have a timing chain.

Lookin now, thanks guys. Lol, I'm not looking for a race car, so the stock engine will do just fine :D

They are pretty reliable then huh?

Good...134 blazin H.P. with that 5-speed is def. nothing to shake a stick at :D

The KA's a great engine...I had a 97 HB 4x4 that was tougher than nails...and I was young and new nothing about trucks and didn't take ANY care of it. Put 87K miles on it in 3.5 years and simply changed the alternator. It also had a 3" body lift and 33's. Beware of fuel tho, MPG is not it's strength!(though with the lift and tires it was to be expected)

2K is very high, on the other hand though, it's an EXCELLENT truck. Good luck!
