Alkorahil
The starter puked so I had to replace it. When I got it out I looked at the manufacturing date stamped on the nissan label, the non-rebuilt part number, and the old school nissan stamp in the casing. The date on the starter said 03/95. The truck was manufactured in 05/95. Original starter. Not bad for 207,000 miles and 16.5 years Edited November 15, 2011 by Alkorahil
MY1PATH
my stater went 22 years and 250 K before I re-built it. I hope I get another 200k out of it.
Kingman
My '87 had the original starter at 259K, still worked juss fine. The one in my '88 failed pre-177K miles and was replaced with a NAPA unit.
1994SEV6
WOW! That's so cool. I love hearing stories about things lasting forever. How did Nissan do it? Did they make the parts themselves? If not, how did they knew who all the best players in the game were? Certain manufactures build a reputation over time, not everyone rises to the top like they should. Alkorahil
Yep it is Hitachi who makes and rebuilds the starters for Nissan. In fact they do them right here in the US. Edited November 16, 2011 by Alkorahil

Tungsten
It all depends on how much you use the starter. If you drive on long trips it will obviously take more mileage for the starter to fail than if you drive on short trips. I think they have around 4000 usable cranks on average before the brushes wear out. That's if you consider driving about 50 miles after every start up and if it lasts about 200,000 miles before needing a rebuild.
