Trogdor636
Pulled my 90 Amp alternator out of a 93 SOHC, and it looks exactly like the alternator in the How-To thread, except for that little wire on the back. Is that some sort of voltage regulator? Do I need it? Is it a small flux capacitor, and if I hit 88 MPH with it will I travel through time? Picture of both alternators, the clean one is the Maxima unit. If nobody can understand which wire I am talking about I can use my brilliant paint skills to show you
nunya
It has a point, I don't remember it exactly though. Something about helping with noise interference through the radio or something completly unrelated. Before I went Maxi alty one of my stock ones had that little dorky things... After looking at a Nissan parts diagram, looking at the stock photo of one on the Oreillys website, and you saying that, I'm gonna leave it off. adamzan
Mine doesn't have one, and I do not have any alternator whine through the stereo.
Trogdor636
Gonna swap back to the stock alty. I had the Maxima one checked out and they said it was good, but I think something is up with it. My idle is now all over the place. Never had a alternator do that, but it was perfectly fine before the change. What a PITA.

Keep it on there, it is a noise suppressor.

Trogdor636
My pathy one is going back on for now. I got the jy one for 10 bucks, and oreillys said it tested fine. But my idle is all over the place and this morning on the way to work my charge light was popping on and off. Good to know for next time though. tmoore4512
When I did my Maxima alty swap I ran into one issue, when I am driving and RPM is up, the blower motor blows faster, and slower when off the gas... weird huh... No suppressor on mine tho, and don't need it, since I don't even have a functioning radio!!
