GrimGreg
Not common, but it might be a problem with the distributor shaft, or the crank angle sensor. Does the rotor turn when you crank it?
Kingman
Sounds like the Crank Angle Position Sensor went bad.
FlaPather420
Sounds like the Crank Angle Position Sensor went bad. Where is the Sensor located? Is it in the distributor?
Kingman
Yes, to replace it if it is the problem you have to replace the entire distributor.
sewebster
Yes, to replace it if it is the problem you have to replace the entire distributor. Rock auto sells the sensor for $140? You should be able to check if it is the sensor... for instance there is a test in the FSM described for checking the injectors... you take the distributor out and rotate it by hand with the key in the on position. The injectors should click in sequence as you rotate it. If they don't then your sensor is bad I guess...
Simon
Also, it could be the amplifier which is a little grey box bolted to the intake, right behind the coil. It can cause similar issues. Very easy to swap off another truck if you have the option.

Thank for all the great info & help from other members. Why does Nissan have to make this so difficult to diagnose, but 176,000 miles later still runs strong. Mishka777
Simon, the little grey box, the amplifier... does it have another name? Is it a voltage amplifier? Trying to track down that part for my '95 that won't spark. Thanks!
