Tachometer jumping?

alright well i've checked the wires at the distributor and everything looks good but it's eitehr dead all the time...normal or like it is in this video...any thoughts?

I think I have a video of mine doing the same thing on YouTube. Your tach is going out. I had to replace mine to fix the problem. I still got the old one but doubt I'll ever get around to diagnosing the root of the problem. What you are experiencing is pretty common.

Tach issues on the round dash is pretty common, I have gotten lucky with junkyard clusters that work! Sometimes just tightening the brass/stainless screws on the back helps

Yea I was thinking the cluster may have some issues...the fuel guagr stays at e too and sometimes will go to half a tank...my 87 did it and it was the wire at the dizzy

Yep, dead tach on the cluster, mine did the same and I had to replace it.

try tightening up the nuts in the back so the tach gets better contact with the pcb

its a internal issue with the windings on the tach head its self yah the screws can come loose and cause this but its most likely time for a new tach head

mine drove me nuts too, it just came down to replacing the tach head itself. Now to fgure out why my speedo reads 10 kms too fast all the time.
