Rim Painting

Like the title says, I'm wondering if painting the rims on my pathy is worth pursuing... Has anyone attempted this with the chrome rims and if so, do you have pics?

mmm paint doesn't stick to chrome very well. I would take them to get sandblasted, then prime and paint them.

Not a problem there, my buddy owns a sandblaster, I'm just trying to get an idea of what it would look like..if I don't paint them, I'll buy some black 15 bullet-hole wheels, just wanna save the $250 plus I would spend on them...

What's the worst that can happen? You don't like em and go a different route you have a backup plan of anyway! I say just go for it and color em as you want, plenty of people do it with lego wheels. Only persons opinion that matters anyway is your own

I used the duplicolor paint on my chrome wheels. It called shadow and is made to paint over chrome wheels. It gives it a black chrome look. I left the outside edge where the wheel weights go chrome.

1987 Caddy, do you have any pictures? And did you just spray it on? Or did you have to sand it down first?

Mine are poof painted. They lasted about 1 year before the paint started to chip a lot, but not bad for about 10$ Heres some pics. Im going back to chrome now though.

I can take some pics for ya tomorrow. I just cleaned the wheels and used a tack cloth before spraying. No sanding of the chrome. Imagine black chrome if that makes any sense. Also the more coats, the darker the finish.

Have to say when you said you left the outside chrome i was thinking omg that is ugly. But now that I see it, it looks really good!

quick questions caddy. how many cans did it take to do all 4 wheels? thinking of doing mine along with my brushguard and taillight guards with it.

I kinda like that chrome lip look, reminds me of a beauty ring...

1 kit did all 5 wheels. If your doing wheels and guards, I'd go with 2 kits. Just use plenty of the clear that comes in the kit. I'm trying to find chrome center caps to go with the chrome lip.

is that one or 2 coats on the wheels? thinking mabey little darker for brush guard and light guards

That's 3 really light coats of black. I didn't want to go too heavy and have the paint run.
