nunya
HB taillights are different, and anything you wanna do 'different' will be on you back there (smoking/candying/covers/wiring your own LEDs/etc) doors forward is the same sheet metal-wise Pathfinder to 4x4 HB (fender bulge difference on 2wd HBs) and the "front end swap" is basicly a simple grille/headlight swap (most people who have done it will be more than happy to give you some pointers and there's a couple active topics on it right now ). Also a quick easy 'modern' front end swap is a 90-95 wd21 grill swap. Cake walk to do with a pair of screwdrivers and about 5 minutes of time (with break)
JayD
How much different? Cutting involved? Thanks!

nunya
Graft any taillight that don't belong into something else... wd21 tails are "short and fat" compared to HBs... depending on my mood/ambition I'll see if I can find any of my old HB tails tomorow while I search some corners for another member to take some pics and give you a comparison idea. JayD
Ok thanks! I really want to install LED's because if I get stuck, I want people to see me! What about Foglights? I know PIAA makes some decent sets, because a couple Rally-Escorts have the entire front-Quad fog setup.

JayD
Ahhh ok. Based on just pics I've seen on the internet or just glancing at one going down the road, they didn't look too much different. Shouldn't be too hard though, a little bit of bondo, and some cutting. I'm gonna do some research and find out if they use the same plugs, and that should conclude that chapter. Also, think once I get the Pathy to the house I'm gonna go looking in the JY for the spare tire 'door' for the back as mine doesn't have one. Was bought new in 86 by my grandfather, and at the time, they didn't even have a backseat for it. Pretty basic.
nismothunder
Nothing wrong with a Kart, a kid I went to school with, 1.8 liter I think, was fuelinjection but he changed it to a carb.Auto to stick, rusted 4 door to rust free shiny black four door, then it was 5.0 swapped. silverton
I'm on FEOA with the same username. Had a 91EGT as well, developed rodknock, sold it to fund the transmission the pathfinder needed. I was unemployed and didn't want to get rid of the EGT... but it had to be done

JamesRich
the VG30e uses a multiport type of injection and is found in these vehicles and years: * 1984–1989 Nissan 300ZX * 1985–1994 Nissan Maxima (160 hp) * 1987–1988 Nissan 200SX SE * 1990–1992 Infiniti M30 * 1990–1995 Hardbody Truck * 1990–1995 Nissan Pathfinder * 1992–1998 Nissan Quest/Mercury Villager (modified to become a non-interference design) I have been wanting to ask if anyone knew the difference in the quest motor that makes it a non interference motor. Is it just different pistons with more valve clearance? Also are the motor mount bolt holes in the same location so it would bolt in a pathy? I believe someone already stated that all the VG block bell housings are the same. My wife's 01 quest with 3.3 isn't a race car but would spank my pathy so bad she could stop and buy me a loser beer and still beat me to the finish line. I know the intake is backwards but the rest of the motor looks the same. Anyone know for sure? James
Kingman
I'm fairly sure they cut deeper recesses in to the top of the pistons and lowered the compression ratio either by raising the cylinder heads up a little or making the pistons shorter. And no, the motor mounts in the vans are entirely different than the rest of them.
adamzan
So take some quest vg33 pistons and heads and your good? Put them in an r50 or xterra vg33 block and install?
nismothunder
The 3.0s in quests rated at 170hp no?
JamesRich
My 01 quest is a 3.3 rated at 170hp and I think the 2000 xterra I had was also rated at 170hp. If they lowered the compression on the quest I wonder what they did to make it put out the same HP? I'm sure this could be an endless study. Why didn't nissan build one version like ford and chevy did? Lol! James
JayD
Ok so with all the engine options, which ones are going to be the least hassle installing? Any upper end heads off any other Nissan models that'll mate to the Z24 block without much modification?
JayD
See, I'm not against swapping a bigger engine, but if I could find a suitable top end for my engine, and go from TBI to FI, I would be a LOT happier in the end. I can Diag a fuel injected system a lot better, and it would probably be more efficient.
nunya
ka powered HB (also a 2.4, just newer) IIRC the top ends swap back and fourth. I know they got the same head gaskets at least as I accidently ordered a z24 gasket kit once for one of my ka powered HBs and was too impatient to wait for the RIGHT one. Even then though, a ka on 31s will have the little old ladys in Centurys and Luminas shootin you the finger as they blow by you like your standing still
JayD
Ah so the best way to have power: Go 6-er or go Boost? And hell, I don't know if these engines are gonna hold up to boost either. How strong is the bottom end on these?
