UPGRADGING NEW SPEAKERS

Recommended Posts

I was interested in replacing my stock speakers and was wondering the proper way to remove the door panels. Can anyone tell me the proper way to do so??? Special Tools? I was planning to keep the stock look by not using the aftermarket grilles. Is this OK? I also wanted to use the stock wiring instead of using aftermarket. Is this OK? I installed an aftermarket PIONEER head unit and I guess I was going to go with Pioneer Speakers too.

To prevent damaging your flimsy pressed-cardboard door panels, you should use a Door Panel Removal Tool. They're pretty cheap and you should be able to find the tool at your local auto parts stores.

To remove the door panel, first you'll need to pop off the armrest covers to access the screws holding the door handle/panel to the interior door sheetmetal, and to unplug the power window/lock switches. Using a putty knife, pop off the door handle trim. With the screws and door handle trim removed, you can now start releasing the door panel from the door with the removal tool. Starting at the lower rear corner of the door, use the putty knife to locate the first of many plastic clips securing the door panel.

Once you've located the first clip, pop the door panel loose with the removal tool by making sure the clip is centered in the tool. This reduces the chance that the door panel will tear away from the clip, leaving the clip stuck in the door instead of attached to the door panel.

Pop all the clips loose, then lift the door panel off the window frame.

For speaker wiring, you can use the stock wiring, but it's pretty small gauge, so if you're shooting for massive power, you're better off running new wire from the head unit.

You will not need the speaker grilles, since the Pathfinder speaker openings are part of the door panel itself.

xplorx described it best. although i dont use the remover tool, once all the screws are removed, i simply pry off the panel and yes some of the clips will stay in the door rather than on the panel where they should be.

its very easy, then, to pull the clips out of the metal door, and reattach them to the cardboard inner liner of the door panel, where they should be.

my way does slightly damage the cardboard but not significantly. Ive taken off my door panels this way like 5 times, for various reasons, and they still hold on very tight, like new.

Yeah with everything coming fromChina now its really hard to say "Brand X" is good. Look for a brand that has been made in the same country for years if you want real sound quality. I have Focal's, but I do like Memphis brand products as well as Polk & Infinity...these have never let me down.

X2. The Bose system is decent but if you're serious about your tunes, aftermarket's the way to go.

Dean's write-up put it best. That method is your best way to do it effectively and efficiently. :aok:

I went all Alpine in my '98, and it's absolutely great. Now I gotta find a way to install my PS2 and connect to the head unit! :D

It never had any to begin with. We have it in the maxima and I think it sucks.

Well I happen to like it, you should hear the 14 speaker system in my moms FX, that is truely an amazing experience. And im really not looking into dumping alot of money into this, just a few hundred at the most. Id rather just get tires lol

Well a 2010 FX doesn't compare to an older Bose in say a R50 or older Maxima.

I'll bet it sounds just sick, though.

And yes, I agree. I'm putting my cash towards wheels, tires, a 5-speed and lockers! :aok:

Yeah the sound systems in the new nissans is amazing! Our 05 maxima has the bose and personally I don't like it.

I'm trying to convince my dad to get some new speakers, or a deck. In the r50 I'm not sure whether the deck doesn't have enough out put or the speakers can't take it. It's not like the wd21 with the stock deck where you can turn it up all the way full blast and it still doesn't distort (at least mine didn't)

  • 2 weeks later...

I installed an aftermarket PIONEER head unit and I guess I was going to go with Pioneer Speakers too.

I stand by Pioneer 100%. It's all I use and recomend (un;ess you got the money to get some JL Audio gear, then your a big dog for some crystal clear sounds, with a Pioneer head unit of course). This is my opinion, as my friend is all about Alpine, and another swears by Sony (that one is funny to me). But i Love the sound quality and the way the bass hits with a sealed box (which i prefer over a ported box). Besides, the world DB drag leader uses a Pioneer head unit (but with Shocker speakers).
