gas tank relocation

I recently put a 3" body lift in my pathfinder and I am thinking about raising the gas tank 2 or 3" up so it is more protected while out wheeling. I wanted to know if anyone has tried this before and if they have any advice. If no one has done it I guess I will be the guinea pig lol. I will actually look at everything closer this weekend when I remove the trailer hitch (to have a better departure angle) and change my rear bumper over to a dual tube bumper I have for it. Again any advice is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

heh funny you mention that...I just did my 3" BL and i am really loving the space between the frame/body that allows access to hard to reach places...I was actually thinking about keeping it in its stock location but taking my spare tank and adding about 3" of extra storage capacity but will involve modification to the fuel pump so it will pick up from the bottom of the tank...I figured a rough guess is about 7 more gallons of fuel

I honestly don't think relocating is is worth the time/effort (but then again look at my project and how many people said its not worth the time and effort) b.c the skid is pretty donkey and if you have a hitch you really won't be able to drag much of the skid...if anything i'd say bulk up the skid b/c the relocation i think will be painful...but you could investigate a higher capacity plastic fuel tank ;)

While I cannot offer any info/thoughts on the fuel tank relocation, I would like to see some photos of your rear dual tube bumper if possible please.

I have just purchased a tube front bumper/bars that I will be modding for my winch. Build to follow later.

heh doh...i cant read and comprehend at the same time...that being said...my 95 never had a hitch and i didnt bang up the fuel tank...rockers rear bumper and the pumpkin got some abuse but not the tank....I think the only way you could get serious damage is if you dropped it on a spear rock but I think you would probably catch the RA or something else before the tank...its pretty well protected as far as approach angles and what not

After I looked at it more I will not be relocating the tank I did not realize how the front was mounted it would be a PIA. I might use the room above it at aa latter date for a onboard air tank instead.

thats a good thought or even other storage...not sure what you could fit in that space but i'm sure some one could figure something out...maybe cut the bed out of the pathy build a "storage" box that is accessable from the cargo area...that'd be cool
