(Andy Clark/Reuters)Stephen Harper's Conservatives have made significant gains across the country from the 2006 federal election but failed to gain enough seats to win a majority government.

 

The result of Tuesday's national vote gives Canadians their third consecutive minority goverment, and also raises questions over the futures of Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion and NDP Leader Jack Layton as heads of their respective parties.
