meekrog
So for a while my 87 has felt like it was slipping while going up hills, more recently instead of feeling like slipping it feels like it is starving for fuel while going up hills and almost stalling. This issue is not constant either sometimes it will go just fine. I was told by a tranny guy it definitely isn't the clutch or tranny, and he said to check into the fuel pump and the pump sending unit. I am just looking for insight to see if anyone else could offer some advice.
MY1PATH
$15 fuel filter 15 minutes under the hood. If that don't work come back and somone here will provide other solutions.
Precise1
^ Exactly!! That's step 1... While probably not part of the issue, may I recommend Lucas injector cleaner? The best $5 I've spent in a long time... B
meekrog
Did a fuel filter about 2 months ago, and also run lucas already great stuff. Could throw another filter in but it is still pretty much brand new.
GrimGreg
Check your coil and distributor cap for any cracks. When the casing on my 88s coil cracked it acted just like my 93 did when it's fuel filter was clogged, which is just like you are discribing. Could throw another filter in but it is still pretty much brand new. had the same problem a full tune up took care of that (it was bad spark plugs wires and my pcv valve was stuck closed)
meekrog
Distributor and coil looked fine. And it does need a tune up anyways so I guess thats next.
Precise1
There was a guy 6months, maybe a year ago that had a similar problem but I can't remember the fix. I'll search for the thread when I get home... B
meekrog
In additon to the previous issues, also really rough starting it like the fuel system depressurized or something.
k9sar
perhaps a TPS. IF the ECU thinks you are throttled different than you really are, it may be leaning it out or flooding it. Just a thought.
GrimGreg
Distributor and coil looked fine. And it does need a tune up anyways so I guess thats next. Did you just glance at them, or give them a once over? Take the wire from the coil to the distributor off at the distributor side and let it arc to a ground while someone turns the starter, arc should be blue, if it is white/yellow/orange your coil is bad. meekrog
Problem solved did a full tune up and the distributor and now it is all good. Now it is time for more lift, thining about doing the rough country uca's and f-150 coils.
