Kittamaru
I have seen everything from 3 5/8 quarts to 5 3/4 quarts! I'm seriously afraid to change my oil now... lol. I asked before but, for the life of me, I can't find the post. This is driving me nuts... I figured a '93 would have the same capacity as a '90, so I attempted to use a '93 manual, but it says 3 5/8's quarts... but last time I did it, I put in 4 5/8's quarts... so yeah. I'm confuzzled... Kittamaru
Aighty - anything I should check for considering the... overfill... I put in last time? My dipstick wasn't showing overly high *shrugs*
Simon
Nope....if it's not pissing out oil, you're fine. Just don't keep overfilling.
88pathoffroad
3 5/8 quarts it is, from 87-95.
unccpathfinder
3-3/8 but 3-3/4 is only 1/8th of a quart over which is hardly anything... ohh wait that says 5-3/4 yea that would be bad... Edited May 23, 2008 by unccpathfinder
94extreme
the capacity is exactly what you put in there. 4qt is what i dump in there most of the time. sometimes more.
Kittamaru
Problem mzxtreme - can't you "raise" the level so high that the cranckshaft froths it up?
GrimGreg
Problem mzxtreme - can't you "raise" the level so high that the cranckshaft froths it up? Yep you can, another issue is the amount of resistance that extra oil creates in the bottom of the engine can actually bend parts. Best thing to do when you do an oil change; put in the 3 3/8q, then let it sit for about 10 minutes, pull the dipstick and read the level on there, if it isn't reading full then add a little more. FYI, the bottom tip of the dipstick is equal to one full quart (+/-), so if there is just a little drip on the bottom, you are a quart low, if the stick has oil halfway up the hash marked area, then you are half a quart low, etc.
Kittamaru
Awesome to know GrimGreg! Thankfully the truck is purring fine after my last bobble - I managed to fskc up AGAIN this time though. I undid the drain plug, drained the oil, and after it finished, spent an HOUR AND A HALF fighting the damn oil filter! Finally got it off (I don't own a band wrench and the filter I had had no socket on the end of it... the new one I got has a 1 inch bolt on the end so I can use a 1 inch socket if I can't get it off) and changed it... started to refil the tank and heard a dripping sound. Yup, I forgot to put the damn bolt back in! I put the bolt in, re-added the Lucas Oil conditioner, and put what was left of the 4 qt container I bought (about 2 quarts) in... I came out with just the VERY tip of the dipstick covered. Quick trip to Adv. Auto, bought a quart, threw it in... I couldn't have gotten the level more perfect if I actually tried XD *shrugs* meh, dumb mistake that turned out good I guess

Yup, I forgot to put the damn bolt back in! One time my dad forgot to put the little washer on with the drain plug on and he was all worried about it so we drove to canadian tire bought more oil and did a second change, so it got a double change! Glad to hear she's running good

(Or did you do your trip to Adv. Auto in another vehicle?)
