ldav07
Alright, so I am 16, and looking to get a car. I want a smaller SUV. I have been looking back and forth at Nissan Xterras and Pathfinders.. What makes you guys like Pathfinders over an Xterra. Right now for me it is the price, but I wanted to here from some of you hard core pathfinder people out there. I am looking at getting a 1999 Pathfinder, and wanted to know if anyone has one and what they think of it. How many miles do they usually last? Thanks in advance, Luke
Slick
#1 for me is interior room....... pathy's have WAY more interior room than x's. pathy's look better. they are tougher. they're cheaper. pathy's can last well over 450k miles........ just ask a few of the 500k plus mile members here........ i could go on for DAYS about what i DON'T like about the X-T and what I LOVE about pathy's........... laxman0324
The year your looking at is unibody, where i *believe* the xterra is ladder frame, so you could do a body lift on it... Engine is the same, but the pathfinder is definitely more comfortable to drive and much roomier...pathfinder looks a lot better but doesnt have the aftermarket support that x's do...R50's will go forever if you take care of it and don't abuse it (nothing wrong with a little fun though). Probably the biggest reason you should get a Pathy is so you can hang out with us
ldav07
Should I go with a 1999, or 2001?
csutke
yes X's are body on frame and do have a bigger aftermarket (takes forever to get anything though) but do you want to driving the same thing as a lot of others?
94extreme
the X is bigger, has bigger motor, i think it has more room but not in the back (cargo area), comes on 32" tires. pathfinders are cheap, very reliable. x is a pathfinder on some steroids basically. unccpathfinder
got my 87 pathy at 16 and its still with me (24 now) and I've picked up a 95...it was very dependable and only broke 2 times due to my negligence but kept on kicking...gas mileage isnt great and now that I'm driving a car I miss my truck every min of it (my 95 is still back east and its the only 1 i could take out on a cruise right now)
csutke
Both the early X and the early R50 share the same VG33E, although some of the 2000+ X's I believe you could get with a supercharger
adamzan
although some of the 2000+ X's I believe you could get with a supercharger yup. if you want to do body lifts, big tires, sas, a wd21 is great. r50's, although sometimes catch a lot of flack, have proven themselves to be just as good with the right mods. Just look at pezzys in the members rides section. A couple good examples of built wd21s are simons, mookies, and 87pathy's. There are lots there. It all depends on what you want to do with it. Oh yeah, if you want more hp go for the 2001, as they have a 250 3.5 v6 and the 99's only had a 170hp 3.3 good luck!

I think more than anything, it's your personal preference. Take a few of each out for a test drive.
