adamzan
All of the big 3 (gm, ford and chrysler) are in the hole, and its because the japanese and european's are actually listening to what the consumers want in a truck/car/whatever. And they make it better looking, last longer, and better on fuel I've noticed that my friends who are big domestic fans, will argue about something they don't know anything about. They're main argument is; "your pathfinder is foreign, there fore it has no power and its crap, and my chev is american (assembled in mexico of course) and will out last your piece of jap crap" Well someone should explain to me why myself and my dad can't find any pathfinders in the junkyards here that are just broken, they've all been either totaled in an accident or rusted to crap, but thats not nissans fault. Makes getting used parts hard around these parts. Just my 2 cents
94extreme
yeah redfinder.. in my state toyota and now honda (will in the near future) employ more americans then the big?3. so the japs can make a vehicle here but not us? that totaly makes no sense. zonianbrat
yes, everyone has a choice but you should have looked into the dirty gm bizz before you said what you said. I looked into it. Nothing worse than craptastic ford. I said what I said and stick by it. Look at the retirement plan GM has. That is why they are struggling because they are paying too much in pension plans. Doesnt sound too bad to me. Ford Sucks

Ford Sucks you obviously didn't look hard enough.. the reason GM is the dumspter is because of the managment.. FORD isn't that way and they still make a better product, in general. If americans are working in the jap company plants, then technically it is americans making the vehicle. that's what i am saying.. plus all the parts are made here too. First thing, please dont tell me I "obviously" did not look hard enough. You simply do not know. Bottom line is we do not need to bicker over this. We simply have a difference in opinion. Nothing wrong with that. You say Ford makes a better product I disagree. I say GM makes a better product. You disagree and I accept that. I did read into GM and yes there are management problems. Nothing new with big companies and yet they still manage to get out a good product. I was trying to explain my point simply threw personal experiences with both Ford and GM. Different strokes for different folks though. Atleast we can both agree that Nissan Pathfinders are a good product.

daftpup
Yeah I second that. Please explain daftpup. In one of his posts a while back, V6 had suggested that some members here needed to "get a sense of humor and if you can't find one, buy one" It was just a play on that is all. GrimGreg
Friends don't let friends buy Fords. Farmers buy what they can get cheap, Ford makes so much junk that it's a dime a dozen.
BowTied
Interesting story. He likley had a 305 - those engines regularly would get 1M miles in taxi cabs. The venerable small block chevy engine has been a strong seller for a half a century for a reason: it works well and reliably. Millions of people have experienced it and for every person who doesn't like chevy and can always find 10 that swear by the small block chevy for reliability. It is certainly being surpassed now in other categories of modern design, but it's record is indisputable. I find it amusing when people say "this company is junk". Every auto manufacturer has had issues/problems and design flaws over the years, yes even Toyota (V6 oil sludge problems, millions of recalled vehicles recently....). I don't know how old you guys are, but if you go back enough years, all of the big three have had issues where union and non-union folks alike were not treated well at one time or another. That just happens in big business over decades. All of the big three are dealing with retirement and medical payout overhead costs. GM being a bigger company has more of it. If GM treated their employees much worse on average than other plants across north america, it would be in the news a lot more than I have ever heard. But I won't doubt that GM, like many other big companies have lost sight of treating staff appropriately from time to time.... Someone said something like "how come a lot of farmers use Ford trucks?" There are A LOT of farmers using Dodge and Chevy trucks too. I think there are more Fords because for many, many years they have been a lot cheaper. Plain and simple. Ford F150 has always been cheaper than a chevy 1500. We can all speculate why I suppose. If you want a full size truck GM vs Ford "battle", talk to mainteance guys who work in mines. They will tell you the Fords might have more power when new, but the GMs last longer and are in for repairs less often overall. Some years/models may vary, but on the average I mean. By the end of the lease, the GMs are running better. Sure, Ford makes a tough truck, but GMs have a reputation for good trucks for a reason. I am not saying Ford is bad, my father has had ford trucks for some time and loves them. If I was buying a cheap plain work truck, I'd get a F150. If I wanted a nice truck, I'd get a Silverado or Sierra. To each his own, right? So, the old chevy vs Ford debate goes on and on, as I am sure it will for some time. Whatever. Both companies have made great vehicles and both have made some real bombs. Edited February 18, 2008 by BowTied

zonianbrat
Welcome to the corporate world. Have you seen what is going on in the oil industry lately? Oh and I found out today that Ford is closing down 3 big plants and laying off it's workers. This is not a shot directly at ford. What is scary is I believe we are knee deep in a recession already and we are starting to see the affects. Whatever. I am not trying to change your mind, but simply suggestion there are other view points out there. It sounds like the layoffs are gonna hit the US harder than Canada, at least in the short term. Ontario has a lot of auto jobs and certain places like Windsor are really feeling it. The other 75% of the workforce are doing well fortuneatly here with very low unemployment rates.

zonianbrat
Valid points have been made on both sides. Let's not let this get into a pee'ing match about which company's are doing right and wrong. We all have to buy gas. We are slaves to crude oil. We get raped at the pumps every day. Yet one certain ceo of a "big oil" company got a 40,000,000 bonus. So the arguing about this piddly stuff is in vain.
laxman0324
Half my relatives were screwed when GM shut down its plant in Baltimore. A couple uncles retired early and some relatives commute from Bmore to the Delaware plant now. But I must say my uncles that retired are being taken care of pretty well by GM, so I see why they are having so much financial trouble even though I think their new mid size sedans are amazing cars, never like the way their trucks drove though compared to Ford... BTW: I love how each truck company is showing theirs is tougher then the other by putting a big V8 LSD 4wd truck against a competitors V6/small V8 non LSD work trucks and have them try to pull each other at the same time...
