NDPathy Posted October 14, 2007 Share Posted October 14, 2007 I'm new here, This is my first post. We bought our pathy four months ago, wife twisted my arm to get it. We bought it the day before it was to go to auction. The engine idled rough, when you hit the brakes the steering wheel shook very badly. We got it for half of book value We tuned it up, new brakes, repainted what needed painted, now it's one hot looking truck. Just need new running boards, and a few little things. Milage went from 10mpg to almost 17mpg after tune up. It will never see salt again, but I can't wait to see what she will do off-road in the snow. Pezzy Posted October 14, 2007 Share Posted October 14, 2007 Congrats! I would suggest if you plan on taking it offroad, forget about the steprails. The stock bars are weak, and can bend & be pushed into your rockers or door panels, causing more harm than good. If you want something for offroad protection, research rock sliders (or sliderz) 4krawler make a decent set for our trucks which can also be used as steps. I believe rocky-road also makes sliders. I want 3" body lift with 33" bf goodrich A/t's ( like on my ole toy) with chrome nerfs and gards front and rear, lot s of lights and a safari rack on top. Don't theink the wife is buying into my plan so I'm already looking for an older Pathy that I can do some serious off-road stuff. Cant wait to get another serious truck to play in the deep snow. When snow storms got severe me and the gang used to off-road all night. when the roads drifted over we took to the fields and woods, man I miss those days, guess it's been 20+ years now. As was mentioned before nerf bars do more harm than good offroad, they are not designed to withstand the bumps and scrapes of off roading. I guess suspension lift will do just fine, but I think looking at some of the pics of the older pathy they have full frames? I guess I've lifted to many Old chevy 4X4's. Kinda! lol, yeah, the 96-2004 R50 pathy's are unibody -- our only commercial lift is a 2" suspension lift - check the R50 section for more info, there's a couple stickied threads there. The pre 96 WD21 Pathfinders are body on frame, so yes, you can do a body lift on one of those. I've had my pathy for a few winters now, and have been pretty happy. So I guess you can then explain to me rationally how my dad felt when I learned to drive, and stick at that, in the winter with crappy tires on the 2000 pathy.
