I can't answer your questions, but I do know that some popular R50 problems are rear strut bushings (causing truck to sway at high speeds) as well as cracked exhaust manifold, which makes a tapping noise when cold but the noise disappears when the motor warms up and the metal expands. I have not experienced either of these problems.

a good analogy would be a person snorkeling around in some water. They need the snorkel to breathe air and not to ingest any water (bent valves, hydrolocked engine) But you can poo-poo and pee-pee all you want underwater. Your weiner will not ingest any water. Ever seen a truck dip its rear end into the water when launching a boat? The exhaust just bubbles, there is absolutely no chance of water getting in the exhaust as long as the engine is running and breathing only air.

If you knew anything about JDM, you'd realize that the "switch blanks" are meant for JDM options like bumper pole and folding mirrors. The answer is, NO, Nissan did not make those as "switch blanks" for you to make your own buttons.

power steering belt? Belts squeal when they are loose, and then grab (stop squealing) once they warm up. Try ttightening your belts.

I hate DSL. It was very slow (fastest download was 40 kb/sec Service would go down at least once a month, tech support sucked, and you have to connect when you turn the computer on. I switched to cable a few years ago. For the same price, it's MUCH faster (downloads go to 350 kb/sec, not 40), I never have to connect, and i've never experienced an outage. Thats my experience.

You do NOT want different size tires from front to back in a 4x4 !!!!! A professional tire shop won't mount different size tires on a 4x4. They wouldn't even mount different size tires for me in MEXICO after I told them that I was going to be using 4x4!! Lets hope the previous owner didn't use 4x4. You will stress out the transfer case and possibly destory it if the size difference is large. This could POSSIBLY be the cause for vibrations in 4x4... Now as far as the allmode 4x4.... you say it's "ridiculous" and you're concerned with long term repair issues.... I laughed when I read that, knowing you drive a land rover! I used to be a tow truck driver and I know that land rovers break down like it's going out of style (don't forget cost of repair). Nissan engines are VERY capable of 300k+ problem-free miles, as long as you change the oil somewhat regularly. I used the AUTO 4x4 feature in the snow once, and it drove just as if it was in 4HI. I couldn't tell a difference.

Yes, a ball joint puller (aka c-clamp) is the better choice, but if you are replacing the entire ball joint, get it off any way you want. Use a pickle fork, destroy your booties, bang on the BJ nut because that stuff really sticks together HARD but you're going to throw it away anyways! Good luck.

dont use a ball joint separator (the kind that looks like a gnarly fork) because you will ruin the booties and potentially the ball joint.

In addition to xpolrx4 post, if you leave the nut threaded on the bottom of the BJ bolt once you loosen it, you can whack it from the bottom or use a press, and you won't ruin the threads or mushroom the BJ bolt. I didn't think of this the first time and I ruined the BJ bolt by banging on it without the nut threaded on.
