CB Range?

I had an old Craig setup with a kilowatt heater under the seat. On a nice cool morning, I could talk skip to the midwest (though not for very long as the atmospheric conditions constantly change). Nowadays, I have a simple 'emergency only' setup with a telescoping antenna and plugs into the cig lighter socket. I can easily get a couple miles if I actually put the antenna on top but I usually just lay it on the dash and chat with whomever I'm travelling with.
2. check your wires to the unit. A loose connection could easily trigger false responses. As to the ability to get to it easily... nothing is easy on a nissan
3. that'd be my guess. There are heat shields covering the exhaust manifolds and the points where they are screwed down are prone to cracking and coming loose. "when it's cool", reach in there and see if it you can wiggle the shields at any of the attachment points.
4. thanks for the pic 88, it'll probably come in handy in the future but mine has not been acting up except for that one morning (different thread). I had the starter on my riding mower stop working and when I pulled it apart, I found that one of the magnets had disintegrated and there was one hell of a mess inside it. At that point, I simply bought a new one 'cause I wasn't about to try to fix it with that much damage. It's bad enough when it's full of crud but when the crud is magnetic, good luck even trying to get it cleaned out.
5. yep... just to keep the belts out of the way when loading cargo (or sleeping)
6. curious... any reason to have the intake facing forward -vs- backwards? I would think that any highway driving in the rain would allow water to your intake. Is the pathy air-starved that it needs to be 'force fed' air when running through a snorkel?
7. file a suit for the court costs since it is his fault that it had to go this far. Not only have you been without the vehicle but you have incurred expensed (like a different vehicle's wear and tear) and court costs. The minimum you should settle for is for you to pay him what you owe for the work that was done (or to be done) and him to pay for your court costs, compensation for not having the truck, and whatever it costs to take it somewhere else to fix it the way he was supposed to.
8. yes. you will need to ground the unit. Good luck with your install.
9. no 4wd in my collection. I have 2 buggies, (well.. one and a half). Usually take it to the beach with me and go crazy in the surf. My second had a malfunction and made a sharp turn into the street at just the wrong time. Most of the electronics are OK but the main frame is busted and the body needs some serious work (or just pickup a new one)
10. no GPS - The sun rises in theeast and sets in the west. From this, you can tell north and south. There are few places in the country where you drive for a long time without running into a highway or town (though I did end up on a missile range one time and in Mexico another) no CB - (actually, a portable emergency one under the seat). Follow the dust! Follow the tire tracks still filling with water. Meet up with whomever at the end of the day. If you break, start hoofin. If you come across someone who's broken, chances are that they're somewhere down the road ahead. no ScanGauge - check fluids and such before you leave. If the little idiot light turns on, stop. no Clinometer - If your ass is over your head, you're wrong.
11. should be easy to put new servos on them and get your proportional steering and throttle
12. that's where mine had a small leak.
13. I'm just curious to see what kind of things people come up with based on the limited selection of Pezzy pics.
14. Perhaps a photoshop thread to populate a Pezzy calendar (if someone reeeeeely wanted to spend the time and money to print one out, no offense Pez). There are a few pics around that can be the basis of the image. Topic... "Pezzy's new job" Keep it clean and tasteful and we can let Queen Pezzy herself judge the winner. DJ already tossed together the tightrope walker (which I find hilarious). Just a thought.
15. good illustration.... take an aluminum tray and put some nail polish remover in it. Throw in some packing styrafoam peanuts and see what happens. Do the same but use acetone you can pickup at a paint store or even that which you can get at a hardware store. Although you can smell it, I have doubts that there is hardly any acetone in NPR
16. to re-index the t-bars simply means to slip them out of their grooved socket at the front end and rotate them a few degrees and shove them back in. (besides the steps needed to free them and retighten them) It's simple to do.

Snorkel

my guess is that they are counting on the slight angle of the cut. If rain is coming straight down and you are not driving forward, you should be ok.
18. damnit! someone mislabled my blinker fluid and I accidentally added it for my starter. geez I hope that doesn't screw things up too much. It should have been obvious when the starter kept turning on and off
19. sounds like the following sequence of steps... 1. ignore it until it happens again 2. if/when it does happen again, check grounds/connections 3. check voltage at starter to make sure she's gettin juice 4. beat it with a golf club 5. roll it back and forth in the driveway (or wherever) 6. wave a chicken bone cross and chant crazy things in portuguese 7. take it out and apart and look for obvious wear and tear 8. attempt a rebuild 9. rip it back out after it fails to work after the rebuild 10. beat it with a golf club again since it was so fun the first time 11. go out and buy one (new or rebuilt) and quit screwing around with it.
