hmm.. interesting. sounds like one hub is not engaging properly for some reason... or locking and unlocking at free will..... which is what would happen with my 92 sometimes with the autos.... i know it is cold and snowy out but have you engaged 4wd and then checked under the truck to see if they really are locked?
-
nice to see you again. i am sure the mods will tell you but the creator/godfather and owner of this site is "off the air" currently and has no computer in which to post up new members and such. unfortunately he is the only one who can.. please be patient, he is having a really rough time of it and it is by no means intentional. enjoy the site, and you have NOT been forgotten!

sssh just what could be a stupid question.. 1. do you have the auto locking hubs? and 2. are you sure they're engaging correctly? I have a 92 XE and i love it.. ok.. so CA doesn't get much snow.. but i do love my mud!

welcome to your home away from home lol

ah ha! so that's what the lil bugger is called. thank you aaron. Dave spotted it after looking at my motor then back at the purple turd.. welp.. that's a good FYI for anyone doing a auto to manual swap or vice versa. I would not have spotted that most likely. (not until i tried to put the flywheel n clutch plate on anyhoo)

as for the clutch, i paid $178 for my clutch from Kragens, and that included the throw out bearing. I was lucky that i had my motor out a year ago as well when i did my clutch so it was pretty simple. remember to have yur flywheel resurfaced as it will help make the new clutch last longer. that cost me $35 and was well worth it. here's the p/n for the clutch kit i got: PA 6128656 (MU476951) if you have sensors not working, your pathy will act up and/or you can run the ecu codes to find out which sensor it is. each sensor has a specific job to do. As GG said.. if you plan on wheelin/gettin er wet off road.. stick to the "replacement" K&N filter.. it just fits right in your existing air filter box with no mods needed. i have had mine for 2 years and it does help. i got my filter for $51 (welcome to CA) the open cone filters GG was talking about cost around $100 with all the adapters n stuff to do the swap, there are some mods needed to go that route, so, depending on your skill level (it's a pretty straightforward job) and time, and what you will be using your pathy for, is what filter you will ultimately choose. and, no need to thank just me, i learned most of what i know about pathys from all these guys, and the rest from hands on. you should thank them all. there is an abundance of knowledge here, and much to be learned. i just sometimes get to the answers before anyone else does.. lol... i am not head poho for nothing sly

put a hold on those tickets.. rain delays play over here. big "storm" (CA "storm" ) comin in and it's been rainin all night and gunna get worse... sposed to last til tuesday.. WTF.. i just wanna get the pathy RUNNING!!!!!

my first suspicion would be that you lost a wheel weight. Also, what condition are your tires in? Are they wearing evenly? if it pulls to one side and your tires are fine you need an alignment. I would also check "down below" for worn bushings, and just general condition of things......... hope this helps get you started

did you maybe hit a tree branch/stump that was on the ground (hidden) and it caught the boot and twisted it? i have seen that happen before.... just a thought
-
 amen. NOW! lets all pile over to reds place n get his motor in! (air fare and booze on red of course) sly

that and aluminum cools quicker nissan knew what they were doin.. lol.. but yeah.. yer right i have to agree

engine runs better cool or hot ,any suggestions
Slick replied to jaca's topic in 90-95 WD21 Pathfinders
If your t'stat is bad, your pathy will overheat. they are quick to let you know. if it hasn't been changed in a while (since last t-belt change or before) it is time, as is the water pump. pathys are only allowed 170 degree t'stats. if you run the motor hot.. you will warp the heads.. which is not good. remember.. everything but the actual block on these motors is aluminum. very sissy when it comes to excessive heat. as for your needle location.. yes, that is at 170 degrees/working temp. another way to tell if your t'stat is bad is a jumpy temp gauges (goes hot to cold.. to med in a short period of time driving) -
should have her runnin by tomorrow. i am still sick as a dog and she was ornery gettin the purple turd in ....... see pic for area where nasty little auto bearing is and let me just tell you..Dave is a big strong man.. but by god he had to beat the ever lovin snot outta that thing to get it out..... after 5 years of sitting.. it was pretty well stuck!

in at LAST!!!!!!!!! yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee HAW! -bounce-
-
-bounce- TA DAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! it's IN!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOT!!!! -bounce- -bounce- ****FYI!!!!!!**** If you get a block from an automatic and you have a manual 5 speed.. there is a HORRIBLE "extra" little pilot bearing you have to get out.... and it doesn't like to come out..... it sticks out and is only for atuotragics.... replace pilot bearing as usual, but LOSE the "extra" dude else yer clutch won't go on right (I guess.. we took it out prior to clutch installation)
-
they changed to 170 in 1990.. can you imagine a 155 t'stat.. damn..... our chevys run at 160-180.. i had a 180 in da jeep too.... anyhoo.. his is a 95 pathy so he's with me on the 170 thang
-
sssh hmm.. that's not bad.. now how about to 95337? hehehe also.. maybe try 15lbs... i think i over guesstimated the weight.....
-
ok. well.. I will take the great site GUYS as just male/female in general..lol.... multiple posts are hard to answer.. but here goes. "normal" gas mileage is usually 17-19mpg highway and 14-16mpg town. Out of the box Pathys are not good on gas as some other suv's.... you'll learn to live with it. "Normal" working temp is 170 degrees. ONLY buy t'stats of that temperature. Might want to change your air filter, better still buy a K & N filter and also clean your MAF sensor located on the side of the air cleaner box. Yes, Pathys are notorious (especially the earlier WD21's) for the frames rusting out under the rear passenger door and under the drivers foot well. Do a thorough check of your frame. There is a pinned section in the garage for rust repair procedures for these issues. If you have stock (OEM) manifolds you will have to part the exhaust. you will need replacement collector gaskets. Also, when changing your clutch, take a CLOSE look at your flywheel (I am assuming your pathy is a 5 spd manual tranny) and have it resurfaced while you're there. Throw out & pilot bearings need to be changed. change your rear main seal!!!! to di it "right" you will need a gasket for the housing for the RMS, as you will find it easier (but not 100% essential) to remove the little aluminum housing the RMS sits in. there is a 1/2 round gasket that sits behind it. I think that's about it. i HIGHLY recommend you get back in there and do your H2o pump and t'stat..... good luck!!
-
well.. i suggested fuel lines and dave suggested backwards.. so my original idea but dave added to it and we both came up with the solution! -bounce- long as it helped and it got 'er runnin.. that's what matters! to everyone! yeah.. can we have avtar of the month? lol..
-
yup. i would have to say the BFG a/t's too. we do a lot of duning and both big chevys run a/t's and cruise the dunes all day long with no problems. they are good on road without the excessive whine you get from a m/t. a "chevron" pattern is "recommended" for sand driving.... (pro comp x tremes faired very well in the dunes too) but for what you want the a/t's are yer best bet

-bounce- schweeeeeeet! glad ya got 'er home n safe again :cool2:

told ya it was somethin simple. just needed to take a breath and discuss the matter amongst friends. glad i could help. glad she's runnin. mother nature made sure my motor did not come out of the garage today.. which means 1 more day of no runnin pathy
