Difficult getting a good photo of the plug in place!! Tryed to pull the plug of so i could get a photo of the wire but it wasn't going to let me!!!

The brown wire you can see is soldered to the only blue wire on the plug and runs straight to the switch. It may be a blue wire with a black strip, but still the only blue wire on the plug.

Location of red/brown plug. Its the bottom plug. Hope fully its obvious!!!

Thanks!! Very usefull!! Its stupid safty things like that which will adventually let you down in some very inconvinient situation like a 4X4 trip with heaps of other vehicles and you have to hold them up while you figure out if it can be fixed or if you have to put up with it. Could be bad if you have to use park as the brakes are wet and you were in some tricky slippery place and neede at least one hand on the wheel!! Cheers, Pete.

If it only happens at speed theres a 98% chance that it is balencing. The other options are that it is a bulge in a tyre (only if old) and that would be progressive through the speed range, not just noticeable at a certain speed. Worn steering components my cause wheel shimmy, but that is usually after you hit a bump or somthing. Alignment would make it wonder all over the road, as if driving on marbels. Tell tale sgns are uneven were accross the tyre. My bet is balence. Cheers, Pete.

Very interesting!!!! So there goes who evers theory that disconnecting the lock up would over heat the trans!!! Not likely!!

Just make sure it isn't full time 4X4 before you go playing with the hubs!!! Like 88 said, if they make a hub for your modle and year they will fit. If your trying to match some up from some where cause they don't make them for your year/model then you could be right about the clearences.

Interesting!!!! Where did you get that from??? I dissagree with that last one about over heating!!!!!! Mainly for the reason that a reputible Auto trans specialist recommended it of you do a lot of heavy towing on the road like towing a boat or trailer. He said and i know from being observant that it is a very common modification to pathfinders/Terrano's and Safari's. Im quite happy that it won't cause it to over heat, its up to personal choice. I think that the constant engaging and dissengaging of the lock up clutch would create far more heat then fluid being pumped around the torque convertor. Its just not logical that it can over heat!!!! Photo's tomorrow i promise!!! Lock up doesn't normally work in 1 - D so surely it would over heat in these gears to?? But it doesn't. An interesting thing is that after a bit of testing it seems that it plays tricks on the computer, and you have to switch off and reset to get lock up again. As far as i can tell, if you have lock up switched of, then kick down, the next time you shift to overdrive you can't get lock up. Just means you have to use the hold switch so you don't accidentally kick down!!!

Ha ha, middle of no where is right!!!! Just so happens that this week im on holiday in civilisation as my partner is moving to a new job about 16 hours drive away!!! sob :sniff: I just had my alternator rebuilt!! It took to days to get done, but as it happens here, if you don't catch something before it goes wrong, then you are stuck when it does because you can't drive to pick up the parts. My voltage regulator died, $NZ 150 for an aftermarket replacement. Decided to replace brushes and bearings. There is no problems what so ever over here to get parts for any modelof Pathfinder/terrano, the aftermarket stuff we get is usually better than the origional and alot cheaper. My alternator has a vacuum pump on the back of it for the brakes. Im just blabing don't really know if i can be usefull here. If you want me to send small parts like that type of thing it would be a very small ask of me!! Cheers, Pete. -
Can i just add here one important thing!!! The RS5000 are NOT gas charged!!! They are a cellular gas design.(The inside of the shock is fillled with oil and closed cell foam material with gas incapsulated in the cells of the foam). This means amongst other things they have better heat dissapation than the gas shocks, and can be run at any angle, up side down or what ever. It's the same tech used in most high quality steering dampers. They also have the same ten stage valving as used in the the other rancho shocks, you just can select which stage you want to start at. Thanks for all the help first of all!!!! They didn't find anything wrong at all. Mechanically or electrically. (nothing that would effect the power mode i mean)they suggested perhaps it was the way the computer was set up. There are apparently about three types of set up that Nissan tried over the various years. The switch is better than any power mode thats for sure. Its like having a true 5th gear!!!

I have some thoughts on this one: Has any one ever owned a MotoX or dirt bike?? They are designed purely to be run in the dirt dust and mud. A pretty serious piece of machinary designed primarily for use in harsh conditions. They all, i say ALL run an oil coated foam filter. That is because the the filter is prone to getting coated with serious amounts of mud and dust due to the conditions. The reason they favour these filters is that one, the oil median is very effective at catching the smaller particles, and two, YOU CAN WASH THE darn THING!!!!!!!. They breath better as well. They don't get dirty quicker. How can they?? There will still be the same amount of dirt going in your air intake weather you have a foam, paper or cotton element. Just whatch the quality of the filter, make sure it is designed to be at least as good as the OE one. Some say they make your engine breath better. But at what cost?? By having bigger pores in the element?? Wouldn't that let more dirt through?? Oh, and if its a foam filter, make sure its one you have to oil, foam on its own won't filter sweet F.A. You also have to by special filter oil to oil it with. A good recognised brand of foam filters is "UNI FILTER". Hope that helps, Pete.

No No, not a stupid question at all!! Think of a manual. 1,2,3,4,5 gears. Your auto has 1,2,D and over drive. In over drive you have two stages. The first is overdrive. The second stage is lock up. That means the torque convertor (thing that takes the drive from the engine to the gear box, in place of the clutch in a manual) has its own special clutch that is opperated by the computer. Just quickly, there is always a loss of power in the torque convertor due to it being a fluid coupling, about 90% power transfer is its best apparently. The lock up clutch stops this loss of power by locking the two parts of the torque convertor together. The problem is that you have no control over it. And it can be a real pain at certain speeds and in certain situations. Like you wanna pull out to pass, so you put your foot down, it either struggles away in 5th (lock up) or drops to 3rd and screams, whe4n all you needed was 4th (overdrive). Same on hills. By doing this simple mod you can control what it does a lot better. Basically it allows you to control 5th gear. (why didn't i just say that in the first place?) Sound good??????? Cheers, Peter.

How's this: Do you hate the way lock up works on your auto box?? All ways in and out at a certain speed etc? Well i just got my whole tranny rebuilt, new everything ($$$$$$ Im broke now) I still had the lock up problem that was really really starting to make me hate the whole vehicle!!!! So i rang the place that did the rebuild and asked about a trick i had heard of. The trick was to put the lock up solenoid on a manual switch, that would allow it to work as normal, then flick the switch and it wouldn't come in at all. What i found out was that it was a five minute job, that required a simple accesory on/off switch, some speaker wire and a soldering iron or connector block. Mount the switch in the cab some where convinient, run the wires through to the engine bay on the battery side. Between the battery and the firewall there should be a loom with a redish brown plug. Once you have found that plug, find the only blue wire in the plug, cut it, solder the switch to the two cut ends and there you have it, a manual lock up switch. Simple huh. Hey thats interesting stuff!! No timing marks on the fly wheel?? Thats a common place for them, and they usually have a degrees marked either side of of TDC!!! I wonder how they set the ingnition timing?? Suppose its done by the computer for the most part. Just as well your a clued up kinda guy!!!!!! Pete.

Go with the locker in the front. Winches in my opinion are over rated, as you never get to adventurous if you don't have other vehicles with you. A good driver can read the conditions and knows the limits of his/her vehicle. By adding the lockers you will be increasing/raising the vehicles limits. By adding the winch, the limitations of the vehicle remain the same, You will get stuck in all the same places, and possibly get your self into a whole lot more trouble than you would normally. Except that in the rare 1 in a million moment of carelessness, an event occurs, you are by your self, isolated from every one and your spade is broken and you wish you had a winch to pull you out. Thats if theres anything to attach it to. Or you have a ground anchor kicking aroundin the boot, oh, but the spades broken so you can't dig it in. And your wire rope extention cable is 2m to short....................................... For the $2500- $3000 (NZ$)it costs to set a winch up on a vehicle i think it should be the last major piece to the off road kit. Better to go with good tall tyres which improve the ground clearence and sute the terrain you drive (Sand = big wide floaty non aggressive tyres), suspension upgrades/lockers are about even i reckon. Why?? Suspension: better axel artic, wheels less likley to break traction through lifting off the ground. Lockers: If one wheel does lift off the ground, the other is still driving. So you can do two things with the lockers idea. First, if you don't wanna shag around with suspension, as thats not the problem, its getting bogged in the soft sand, go lockers. If your having a hard time on the rocks and ruts, and don't want to shag around with suspension go lockers. If you want to go nearly anywere and be unstoppable do your suspension aswell. Most people do it the other way round suspension first, go hey this is way better but i'm still lifting wheels. So they put lockers in. Then they can left all the wheels they like with in reason. The ultimate for mud soft sand and rocks are lockers. Enough said, Cheers, Pete.

Cheer up, my tranny is getting overhauled on tuesday coming. I couldn't figure out what the weird noises were, so i said bugger it, i'll sort it once and for all............................ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ Cheers, keep smiling, and remeber 90% of trans mechanics were fired from working at McD's, trans rebuilding was the next best option.(I like that one Igranch) Pete.

Nah, there are definatley talking about tye whole gear box drum thingy. Ya know, that drum thingy not workin to good. Probably a good reflection of the type of workman ship that goes on there if they can't take the time to calm, reassure and explain to the prospective customer what they think are their best options and what could the possible cxause of the problem. How many times have you gone to a mechanic as the last resort all fired up cause you can't figure it out your self???? ALL MECHANICS SHOULD SEE THEM SELFS AS GRIEF/MENTAL TRAUMA COUNCILORS first and formost. We need consoling when are babies are sick!

Very interesting guys. How many of you have body lifts?? I thought i could get mine to stop rubbing by raising the body about 1.5 inches. Maybe not by the sounds of it!! My tires are 33.4". I was tempted to do what 88 did as theres alot of scope to make the whole rear fender larger, but i stopped my self, as 88 found out, theres not a lot you can do at the front with out modifying the floor pan, which is ok on the pasengers side, but pedals and that get in the way on the drivers! I have more probs with mine rubbing on the chassis at full lock under any circumstances than rubbing on the gaurds. pull the wheels off, get under the gaurd and just make sure you have all the sharp edges out of the way that you can find. That way you should minimise the risk of putting a serious cut in the tyre. Pete.
