I'm from the East Coast. Fairfax County VA when I am home and Columbus Ohio when I am here at school. I must say I do miss VA. I know there are a couple other Fairfax'ers here and some Marylanders perhaps. -Cameron

Ok heres what's going on. Turn the Pathy on and start driving and I have a rapid ticking that increases with RPMs. So after looking around on here I deduced "alas! exhaust manifold" and I am under 100K (88K) so I went to the dealer and had them check it out. They told me there was no leaking and they tightened all the studs down. OK. Now what? could this be an exhaust leak further down the exhaust system? I also saw mentioned in another post something about noisy lifters, but nobody every followed up on that. So any ideas?

MP3's like whoa. I put all my CDs onto MP3 cds organized by genre and then alphabetized by artist. Each artist has a folder, then each album is in a sub folder. This is much better than toting around that enormous CD binder.

That sounds like a holiday worth celebrating!! Im skipping valentines day for that one.

I have the same problem (haven't gotten around to fixing it yet) but it looks like this is a common problem Nissan knows about. As for replacing them.. I am not sure they will do it just due to slow retraction. The way I understand the seatbelt warranty is something must be mechanically wrong which causes the seatbelt to function improperly/unsafely. In this case, the seatbelt still works in that it will lock into place as it should and hold you there, it just is slow to retract all the way..

Difference between SE and XE would be wheel size. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head, but I think the XE wheel is a 15x6 or something to that matter and the SE would be a little wider. I also think, could be wrong, that the backspacing on the SE wheel is a little different as it tends to fill the fender flares better, that could however just be the width. Anyways, XE, go ahead with the 30x9.5 you should be fine.

Yes, they will fit. I've got the XE chromes and they fit fine with no rubbing or what not. Yea, they look beefy but the stuff under there ok.

hey matt, Yea, your speculation is probably correct. I would guess the exhuast heat shields judging by what you have described. My 97 was ratting for a while and i couldn't figure it out turned out to be the heat shields had rusted off on one side and just bounced as I drove. So crawl on under there and check the cat and muffler for loose heat shields... any other suggestions? second: what part of NoVa are you from? I am at school in Ohio, but I still spend summers and breaks back home in Fairfax/Springfield area. -cameron

I was planning to put those switches in the blank spots by the ashtray/handbrake area. That may only be an option for the 96-99.4999, I don't remember right now. The other option would be on the driver's side by the cruise control and security LED, I think there are blank spots there.

BRILLIANT! so many thinkers here on this board. Yea either of those would work pretty well. definately have to look at it this weekend.

The 99.5+ doesnt have the rear wiper switch there, that problem is only for us 96-98'ers... Pezzy, that looks great, I hope I can find one to fit there even with that blasted rear wiper switch!

Depending on time frame I would be up for it. I spend my summers back home in Fairfax, VA. Would be nice to see what trails others have found in the area too.

Mount the CB in the blank switch spot? BRILLIANT! Drink beer straight from a bottle? BRILLIANT!

I've also been looking to get a CB, I believe I am going to mount it under the dash in that pocket right infront of the shifter. I often forget that place is even down there... I think it should work out with it at a slight angle up so that the controls are accessible. I don't think I will be needing to change controls all that much so the reach shouldnt be a huge problem. Buddy of mine got a cheaper 40 channel CB and was able to trim it to fit into his drop down ash tray. I measured it and its just about the same size as the coin tray in the R50(located near the door on the dash) so that was the other option I was thinking about...

Definately give it a shot, my passenger was much slower and when i would close the windows in the summer I often left a rather large gap as I just stopped when the driver's side was all the way up. Used the miracle window trick and it worked!

WOW, my 97XE has them. Granted my mirrors never fog up that much, but it is capable of melting ice (poured some water on there last night) Definately good to know that that's available

Yea, this was a popular vehicle and they are *fairly* easy to find at a reasonable price (much less than the overpriced 4Runner) Be patient, took my a month to find mine, granted my criteria was fairly strict (Black, 5speed, V6, 4x4, Pw, Pl, non leather) But just go out and look around they are out there and if you keep your eyes peeled you will find what you are looking for.

I want to join this party, im going to put some snow on my mirrors and see if they melt it...

Mine does too, tore a motor mount when they replaced the clutch and I havent gotten around to it... it only shakes at 1K RPMs

Odd - the check engine light came on right after I got my clutch replaced. They danced around and said "we broke some plastic thing and the check engine light came on. we called Nissan and they said to not worry about it" I have stared at that idle yellow light for way too long now. Well I will jump at it tomorrow. I hope its not bent... Ugh if the place that did my clutch wasnt 6 hours away from me..... Thanks for the help between this post and my haynes manual I think I can figure it out. THANKS-cameron

Sounds ok, I bought mine in December of 03, its a 97XE with 5speed, 4x4, pw,pl and had 68K on it. Paid 8900. They were asking 11,000. So factor in a 2-3K dealer markup and that sounds about right. What do you mean by "drove OK"? That is pretty low mileage so I would assume that it would be fairly smooth (i.e idle w/no shakes, smooth accel., no hesitation) Test drive some other ones to compare the engine sounds/feeling with it will give you a better idea if you just aren't used to driving a Pathfinder or if there is something wrong. good luck!

Thats pretty bad, the fact that 12 people had to die because someone wanted a sign.... As for "that other post" that was what inspired me to go home over winter break and dig up those signs in my garage that had been there forever, they do make a sturdy skidplate

No worries there, mine was "obtained" from a pile of them at a construction site and its just a big NO PARKING (P with the cirlce and the cross through it) I aint all about stealing them from the road, plus this was back in my wild high school days, im past that now. haha

so it came back. blast. Looks like I am gonna be replacing my crankshaft position sensor... is this a hard fix? didnt look like it would be all that hard to get to judging by the haynes manual, I was going to pop under there today and have a looksy but I had to get to crew practice and it was dark afterwards. The next task will be finding somewhere I dont have to do this with my body in the snow....
