I've always found my 3.3 to have plenty of power, only time it felt lacking was the last mountain pass on my way to Creston (Salmo-Creston for anyone from BC) where you're headed straight up hill for about 25 minutes...foot to the floor but once it started to get quite steep near the summit the needle dropped down below 120km/h. In fact I've rarely felt any lack of power, it just chugs gas like there is no tommorow. I think I did the entire drive from Calgary to Vancouver at over 3000rpm, worst was going up the Coquihalla at 150km/h at 5000rpm because I just wanted to get home. Can't say I've ever had any trouble getting the rear tires to slip, not that it's a smart idea should you want to stay ticket free. Anyhow, I agree with you Michigan...I didn't buy my R50 with the intention of beating on it, it was a means to an end; I needed a 4wd truck with space that would get me safely across the province throughout the winter. I have truly fallen in love with her and how capable she is though, and while I dream of doing stupid things her thats more because of the glory of being the first to do it You hit the nail on the head, my ultimate goal is a 2.5" lift on 32"s that will keep me in the game but still be a viable DD. I suppose when I'm filthy rich I'll be able to build a proper trail rig
-
So I've got a questions...eventually (when the money makes its way into my truck and I've lifted it) I'd like to upgrade to 32" tires...while I've never experienced brake fade with my stock tires how well would the stock brakes work with the increased tire size? I seem to recall reading that XPLOR had to replace his rotors with a beefier set. Will my ABS still function properly with the increased tire size?

How strong is the subframe on an R50? I've put mine at some pretty weird angles without ever having body flex problems (always been able to open and shut my doors as though it was level) but I'd be worried about bending it if I did a subframe drop or an SAS. An SAS seems like it'd add a lot of stress to the body that it wasn't designed for and with a subframe drop I'd be worried about bending the frame when I high-centre. One of my heep buddies keeps bugging me to do an SAS but I think I'd rather trade in my R50 for a wd21 if I wanted to do that.

Aye, I'd say vengeful has the nicest snorkel on an R50 though that one is quite nice for a DIY

If you want to buy that one offer $1000 and don't go higher than 3ish, it's not worth more than that especially for an 18 year old truck. Even if it looks good there is probably something wrong with it you haven't found yet. 7k is a good joke.

They probably worked 2 years ago when he posted them

looks like a sub frame drop like Max Stryker had...just a bunch of 3" blocks welded in.

you are correct

mmm food for thought, you could always plug the intake pipe when you go offroading if you know you're going to be going through water, the intake would still get enough air without that pipe I take it.
-
I don't know what the actual air flow differences are between the muffler and resonator, but no, they are not the same. You have exhaust which comes off of both sides of your engine, each through an exhaust manifold and through a catalytic converter. They both go into the muffler and exit through one pipe which runs through the resonator. The tail pipe rusted off of my resonator last spring and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet ($$). I just plan to cut it out and run a straight pipe back from the muffler.
-
The actual intake for the airbox is pretty much behind the driver side turn signal, so you don't need very deep water to take in water. As to the question though, sorry, no idea At least you got it trail fixed though!

I've done a lot of mountain highway driving and have never noticed brake fade, but to be honest you don't really need your brakes that much...even with an auto transmission you can turn off overdrive or downshift to second, and even without, holding your brakes on for the length of a hill is just a waste of your brake pads. Even just in regular driving the few times I've had to brake quickly I was impressed with how well my brakes responded. I'd love to do a rear disc conversion but only because I get a hard on for making my pathy better. I could never justify the cost until I both noticed and was noticably affected by brake fade.

If you've still got the skid plates in a while (when I can spare the money ) I'd be interested, good excuse to go on a road trip

whats the backspacing on those rims Trainman?
-
Clunking noise in general or when you make a turn? If it's the latter it's probably a CV axle.
-
Eh, the dealership my brother worked for for a number of years certainly let a few things slide on warranty for staff and family that they would not have done for a regular customer.
-
Mm that just looked like a piece of flexpipe to me last I was under my truck....why have a resonator coming off of only one side? If it were another muffler, resonator or some type of pollution control I imagine that there would be one coming off of each manifold as it's silly to only do it off of one. Eventually when I have the tools and can justify the cost I'd like to do a cat-back full dual exhaust but I haven't actually looked into how best to do that yet.
-
Ever heard of sticking a potato in a tailpipe? Blocked tailpipes and the buildup of pressure when you try to start your vehicle = bad things. If your exhaust is full of water then the exhaust has nowhere to go. No water would actually get back up into the engine, I just wouldn't try starting your truck if it stalls under water
-
I wouldn't say it's more work to replace just the boot, it's just you have to nearly remove the entire CV axle to get the boot off so you may as well replace the whole shebang since you've already done the majority of the work. Dealership charged me the same number of labour hours to replace only the boot as they would have to replace the entire axle, you just save the cost of actual axle. Of course no nissan dealer would just replace the boot for you since it's policy to replace the entire axle whenever the boot cracks...

My tail pipe rusted out at the resonator and I haven't gotten around to fixing it yet ($$) but I do intend on just cutting out the whole resonator and running a pipe back. I can definitely hear the difference but it's not very much louder. I rather like it, I joke about it being my ricer exhaust since it currently looks like I have a 4" tail pipe.
-
Water gets inside the exhaust and acts in a fashion extremely similar to a potato.
-
Offtopic, but jeez that a bar must destroy your approach angle...I almost ripped my bumper off a couple times today stock
-
I know mine is cracked because I can hear a bit of an exhaust leak, I'm just praying it can hold out for as long as possible until I actually have some money to throw at it.

Offer him half of what you sold it for

Playing dumb is not a good idea, it is the assumption of the courts that you are aware of the law; ignorance is not a defence. But yeah, @!*%ty deal man. Slipping the tires in front of a cop was asking for trouble, but the rest sucks. Having lived in a rural area I used my highbeams a lot and would've used an extra lights if I had them, especially during bad weather. I'm not sure what the law is on covering lights but I do know that a lot of trucks around here don't.
