That looks reasonable for being original part used for 259k miles. It's maybe got another 2 to 3 years to go before it's completely stuffed imo having worked in the exhaust industry.

My simple yet effective tip is when removing the oil drain plug and you don't have any gloves handy so you don't get oil on your hands, undo the plug with your ratchet till it's loose, them remove the ratchet and unscrew the plug the rest of the way while holding onto the metal bar with socket still on. As you remove the plug pull the socket down and hopefully the plug will remain in the socket for you to drop into a clean paper towel and your hand and arm should be oil free. Some may not agree with this procedure but it works for me.

Clogged cats cannot be washed out with dish soap and water - I used to fit exhaust systems back in the day and we would oxy cut open dead catalytic converters and inside them is a honey comb material which the exhaust gases have to pass through. Nothing you can do once it's clogged - you replace it.

I noticed you mentioned the battery was put on charge. Usually after a charge, batteries have a tendency to not last for much longer. How old is the battery? The average life of most batteries is 3-4 years and that's it. I'd start by replacing the battery instead of wasting money going and getting professional cleaning etc. It might just be the battery that is responsible for the unusual power loss re low rpms

Cleaned mine out a couple of months ago. Handful of leaves in there, some of which looked black like the resistor had singed them. I also vacuumed everything else that was stuck in there like little pine twigs. Pulled the blower motor out while I was down there and cleaned out a couple more pine twigs and cleaned all the little fins on the mouse wheel using degreaser and an old toothbrush. To finish, I sprayed lots of air freshener up in the holes and now my air con is actually stronger than before and smells a whole lot nicer too! I'm going to do this inspection every six months now as part of normal servicing.

Received a new left hand rear tail light now just need some time off work to pull out the smashed one. How it happened - reversed into a shopping cart at the shops. Went to junkyard, guy behind the counter wanted $100 for a 2nd hand scratched up one. I did some hunting online and found www.autopartsmate.com.au they have aftermarket parts. Not original tail light but looks exactly the same thing.

I've used the metal retainer like two times since 2005. Since I discovered how to properly lubricate the hinges, I think I might be using the metal retainer more often. My tyre carrier is freed right up. ATF seems to not only lubricate but it works as a cleaning agent too it seems

Also watch the wind doesn't slam it into your back as you are loading stuff. I nearly got squashed by mine the other day but my Bruce Lee lightning reflexes blocked the swinging bar

Mine sits on 750 when I start up, when warm it's at 800. Also remember when in P or N the revs should go up a little bit. It should be noticable.

Hi guys, yes WA is fantastic for trips up the northwest coast. I have been to Geraldton but if you go another 100 miles up past there you find Kalbarri which is a great holiday destination and even further up you'll find Monkey Mia which is renowned for the dolphins that come right up to the beach and feed. People used to feed them fish right from their hands but since the late 90's it's been monitored and only the park officials feed them, to prevent the dolphins eating something nasty.

I did that to my rear tyre carrier last week. I put some ATF in an old medicine bottle it is one of those ones with a squeeze bulb on it with a plastic tube dropper. Squeezed some ATF into the holes to give it's medicine lol. Been opening it with just 2 fingers now.

G'day everyone, been lurking for a few months so I finally decided to join NPORA. The Pathfinder bug all started for me in 2005 my stepfather had a dark blue 4 Dr 1991 Terrano with only 114,000 km (71,250 miles) on it, garaged at his beach house. It was in immaculate condition and he said he didn't need it anymore as he hardly drove it so he gave it to me! I was a bit uncomfortable with it starting off as I had never driven a 4wd before but driving the 100 miles back to the city in it was the beginning of the 'journey' for me with this Terrano. Since 2005 till now, it's got an extra 100k miles on it plus I've installed a center console car fridge and led lights in the dash, cleaned out the air con box too which I found how to do with the help on this forum.
